The poetry of the future will be unlike that of the past in one very importantcircumstance, that in whatever languages it may be written, it will be more andmore moved by the common mind and motives of all the human peoples.
Sri Aurobindo (Bengali: শ্রী অরবিন্দ Sri Ôrobindo) was an Indian nationalist and freedom fighter, major Indian English poet, philosopher, and yogi. He joined the movement for India's freedom from British rule and for a duration (1905–10), became one of its most important leaders, before turning to developing his own vision and philosophy of human progress and spiritual evolution.
The central theme of Sri Aurobindo's vision is the evolution of life into a "life divine". In his own words: "Man is a transitional being. He is not final. The step from man to superman is the next approaching achievement in the earth evolution. It is inevitable because it is at once the intention of the inner spirit and the logic of Nature's process."
If you want to understand the Indian perspectives on poetry in general and poetics, this is the book you need to consult. It is truly beautiful to read the way Sri Aurobindo ascribes poetry the unlimited power and also reminds the poets of their responsibilities. I am appalled to see that such text is not there in the syllabuses of undergraduate of graduate students in Indian universities. They are missing a lot by ignoring such wonderful critical works by Indian authors (and a great philosopher in the case of Sri Aurobindo).
The Future Poetry by Aurobindo Ghosh was a text worth reading because the volume is a document which has wit and the taste was the author's past in terms of sources. In The Future Poetry we find Wordsworth, Shelley, Chaucer, Carpenter and other authors that Sri Aurobindo read. The Future Poetry which Sri Aurobindo began as a review in Arya but gave up on the Journal review but in the later decades took to completion is the work called Aurobindo's vision of a Future. In reply to Mr Cousin's work on a book of summarizing English literature in a volume which was sent to Sri Aurobindo starts the project which like a Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman whom otherwise is mentioned by the author in Future Poetry for merit is an example of the genius of this thought process or mental acrobatics which is learning to read. The book went smoothly in this version which is available online. The book like all His works are affordable in prize being hundred and seventy in the Indian currency. The book is worth far more than this total being a book review and later commentary on poetry. The surprise is the depth of wit that is found in reading Sri Aurobindo because his language needs training prior and consultation of sources at the highest level. Criticism is the subject genre which under I was here offered to read a portion of this work but being a devotee of Sri Aurobindo by birth I gifted myself a copy of Future Poetry from the Pondicherry based outlet that produces in copies all his works with copyrights. The Future Poetry being the first book of Sri Aurobindo that I've read by myself without taking a course is a personal achievement. The achievement required within the Critical work is though of superior interest and interest provoking. The writer's genius leads us to appreciate the magnitude of the language and meaning which Sri Aurobindo plays with his wit. The Aurobindonian term is suitable here because Cousins would not mind us commenting on this opus of the future. Recently a source told me that Bob Dylan won the nobel prize for literature and congrats to him but Sri Aurobindo's word play of Blowing In The Wind in the confines of The Future Poetry is a remarkable piece of example like a taste I hope to open this works binding and dissect the work. Conclusion to this work of Poetry can be judged by merit because the author is no ordinary man and in the because of advancement in years of writing and reading books a disciple wrote the work dictated to him. The Question arrived at by me is that would I have known the difference or even felt it that it had been orated to dictation by words spoken like that. The use of putting a quote is not worth a review or this reviewer progress because critically Sri Aurobindo is a genius.
