An exciting conclusion to the Rose Mountain trilogy. It was nice to see more of Reese from a more positive angle than the poor guy got earlier in the series. Maggie is new in town and definitely needs some protecting. While I saw right through the mystery before the halfway mark, I still really enjoyed the thrills of surviving and the sweet details of their growing relationship.

Danger On the Mountain is the third and final book of the Rose Mountain trilogy that has been such an enjoyable series. Maggie Bennett moved to Rose Mountain with her infant daughter for a new start where she can work from home. She is a widow of an abusive husband and wants to put the past behind her. She has an older neighbor who helps watch Belle as Maggie works.

Reese Kirkpatrick is a deputy who moved from DC to work on Rose Mountain. The first day on the job, he met Maggie at the bank when three robbers tried to rob the bank. It soon becomes apparent that trouble has followed Maggie to Rose Mountain and Reese, who lives near her, comes to her rescue from time to time as do others with Sheriff's office.

This is another tense, edgy read by Lynette Eason with a surprise, scary ending caused by an off balance person. There is also a thread of faith running through to help the characters deal with the danger.

This was a really good book. Too often I start reading and pretty soon I have a fairly good idea of who the bad guy is. Lynette Eason has a talent of keeping me guessing through most of the story and sometimes even in the end I'm still shocked at the outcome. I haven't met a single book of hers that I didn't like! You'll enjoy this one if like murder and mayhem.

Maggie and Reese were both great characters and I enjoyed their stories. The father who's grieving his losses and the mother who is glad to have gotten away from hers.

Lynette Eason wove a suspenseful tale of adventure, of learning to trust, and struggling to stay alive. If you like a lot of adventure with a little romance thrown in, you've got to read Danger on the Mountain.

I actually wanted to give this 3 stars, some things about this book just bothered me too much to give it. I settled on 2.5 stars, since I also didn't think it was so 'meh' that it deserves a 2 star rating.

I came across this one while looking for something completely different on the ol' ebook shelf of the public library online. I have to admit the synopsis actually grabbed my attention...

"After making a new life for herself and her infant daughter in Rose Mountain, widow Maggie Bennett thought they were safe. Getting caught in the middle of a bank robbery changes everything—and introduces her to policeman Reese Kirkpatrick. He seems to be everything her abusive late husband wasn’t…just the man she needs to help her through the growing list of sinister occurrences. But Reese has his own baggage—and when a shocking betrayal puts Maggie at risk, Reese must decide if protecting his heart is worth losing a chance at love."

Ignoring the last sentence (I found it rather cliché, but hey! It's a romance novel, they're all like that, right?) I decided to give it a go.

First off, I understand this is a Christian romance and generally while they are good reads, they aren't psychological thriller killers or the romance extraordinaire of the book world. I read these whenever I need something that doesn't take a lot of concentration('fluff' reads), and not a lot of garbage like most romance novels, which often seem to go more of the way of erotica. Just a nice book about two people finding each other and trusting each other, just under some interesting and not-so-common circumstances. For that I bumped my rating to 2.5 stars because I pretty much got what I expected.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

I'll try to keep the spoilers as general as possible so I don't completely ruin everything for you.

While I enjoyed the general premise of this novel, I found it rather predictable, pegging the 'person behind it all' as soon as said person was mentioned, but I continued reading in hopes it would be another twist to the plot to prove me wrong (like the dead husband not actually being dead and in league with the real person creating all this misery. That would have been enjoyable). I like it when the occasional romance of this type gives you a little bit of anticipation for the unexpected.

On that note, the characters. While reading some of their general conversations together I found myself thinking how awkward the conservation sounded in my head...and then how awkward it would be to listen to in person. That said, Maggie. Maggie is a loving mother of Belle, a 9 month old baby girl. While Maggie is kind and gentle, the author makes her sound unsure and timid around Reese, drawing heavily the somewhat under explained, slightly elusive backstory of her now dead husband who abused her.

While I don't mind the author making her character be reluctant to talk abut her past, I find the lack of info from the author to the reader slightly off putting. Why? Let's put it this way, around 65% of the way through the book the author has Maggie explain to Reese that she would take her next real relationship slow, so the man could prove to her that he is not like her dead husband because she no longer trusts her own judgment. Plus her hubby took their relationship to top speed so he could marry her and THEN start beating her...Okay, cool. We can roll with that, right? makes sense, sorta...BUT at the end of the book, it's three months after the whole incident is resolved, which means they have known each other for...3months and two weeks, tops. So what happens, Reese proposes and she says yes!!!!

How fast did she marry Kent in order to make that 'taking a relationship slow'? While it's a longer courting period than some Christian romances, it's still super fast by almost everyone's standards. Many people I know get in a twitter about anything shorter than a year and even a year is short to most, so three months is all she needs to know she wants to live her life with him even after everything we 'think', because we don't fully know, she's been through? I don't think so.

That did not sit too well with me.

Reese, a dude with a problem that no therapist would let him walk away without facing. The dude can't pick up a baby without thinking of his dead new born. His wife and baby daughter both died during delivery. Again the author is super general and glosses over the defining event of Reese's adult life, which makes it hard to swallow how it happened. Such deaths don't happen too often anymore thanks to midwives and doctors in hospitals. Each trained to spot complications and take action to prevent lose of life. While I know it happens, and even read a similar books where I accepted the deaths (they explained exactly what happened, in under a paragraph), this one left me twitching a little. I wanted to know the HOW of the thing. Never found out.

Reese says he's talked to someone about it, but the guy gets fits of grief that are almost crippling. The only way I could let this go is to assume he stopped seeing a therapist without the 'ok' from said therapist. But cool whatever. Enough said on that front. Reese is a kind, caring, pretty with it guy, who has major baggage. In a way, more than Maggie, who again, I think should have more baggage and trust issues.

I nitpick, I know...here's another one for you!

The only other issue is once again in the last part of the book where Belle 'launches' herself into her mother's arm from someone's lap. Now I have a niece that is one month older than Belle is in the book and a nephew that a few months younger...not to mention the other nieces and nephews I watched go through the baby stage. Not one of them at 9 months of age would be able to lung off of anyone's lap! Wiggle yes, hold their arms up to be picked up by mom yes, flail yes, squeal, bounce up and down a little, kick, all yes. Launch, definitely not! 9 month old babies do not launch in my experience. They lurch forward and then nearly face plant, saved from the experience by quick hands of those in charge of watching them.

Maybe that was an editing error and originally the author had Belle as a young toddler who had the body control to launch, I can sort of overlook that. Changing supporting characters does happen and I think it's a editor's error not picking up on that...

All in all, a good fluff read with a few rough spots that rubbed on me, but still enjoyable. If those rough spots had been edited up a bit this book could have easily reached a 3 star rating in my books.

I look forward to reading a few more books by this author in the future.

Add on 2019* I would also like to ask who thinks it's a good idea to give a 1 year old a ring? Everything seems to go in baby's mouths. I feel like if she figured out how to get it off, she'd swallow it for certain.

This book played on all my emotions. I laughed, or cried, held my breath, saw red at times while I turned the pages of this book. This book held my attention from the 1st chapter till the last page. If this story plot happened in real life, it would be really messed up. I have to say I never saw it coming. There were one or two grammar errors, but the book was well written. This is not one of those books you can guess the plot, or the outcome.

Here is a sample from chapter 11 and 12
The flyer window shattered inward and Reese felt a sting under his right eye even as he dove for Maggie, heard Shannon scream, and two more bullets pound the wooden door. Maggie whirled, her first thought to grab Belle and cover her. A hard arm around her waist stopped her midflight and took her to the floor. She cried out. “Belle!” “Stay here”, Reese demanded. Maggie flipped around to see him pull Shannon and Belle to the floor behind the recliner in the den. He was already reaching for his phone when the glass on the other side of the door mimicked the first one, shattering all over the foyer floor and spraying into the den. Reese barked “shooter at Maggie Bennett’s house with a good view of her front door.” Trembling, breaths coming in pants and tears blurring her eyes, she crawled toward Belle and Shannon, her only thought to get to her baby, and cover her, protect her.

The beginning was intriguing and the climax at the end was very exciting. The whodunit kept me interested.
A satisfying read that was a very heartland-church potluck-single mom story with a side of deranged killer. But I would have liked a little more emotional conflict, deeper into the character's inner struggles.

My favorite part was when Reese went to get the baby up from her nap and came back in the living room holding her at arms length. That made me laugh!

I have been reading Lynette Eason's books for a few years and I have never been disappointed in any of her books.
Rose Mountain Trilogy has been exciting to read, tearful at times, and bursting out laughing at other times.
Danger on the Mountain is the last in the series, (there could be more, Lynette) and profoundly interesting. Never knew who the culprit
was, such a surprise! Read in one lazy afternoon, could not put the book down.

Thanks for a wonderful series.

Somewhere between 3 1/2 and four, but I'll give it "the benefit of the doubt." It was a slightly better story than most. What was really goos mis, in most of these books, the female protagonist is relatively passive, if not helpless, and the male has to rescue her. In this one, though she ends up in jeopardy, she takes an active part in her own fate.

I really enjoyed this book. all of Lynette's books are awesome. I love the characters and how they interact. How like God to give a man a wife and daughter, who had lost his wife and baby daughter. I loved the story and how God healed the broken people.

"Danger on the Mountain" is a Christian romantic suspense. It's the third in a series but works as a standalone. Widow Maggie and her baby daughter are put in danger and nearly kidnapped during a bank robbery. Policeman Reese stops the attempt, but the attacker escapes, vowing to get revenge.

The main characters were likable and acted realistically. Reese recently lost his wife and baby in childbirth, so he struggled emotionally around Maggie's baby. Maggie's husband didn't want the child, and she left his family behind after his death. Her sister-in-law has tracked her down, pleading to spend time with the baby. Reese protects them while trying to capture the attackers. Reese and Maggie built each other up and generally worked well together. The suspense came from repeatedly attacks on both of them.

Maggie learned to trust God with their safety. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense.

Great Christian fiction romantic suspense. This is the third book and the conclusion of Lynnette Eason's Rose Mountain Refuge series. The whole series was very good, engaging, and easy to read. I read most of the books in a single day. Very light reading. I also listened to the books on Audible, and the narrator was amazing; I didn't even think about the narrator, I was just engaged in the story. I think that's a sign of a good narrator. One that doesn't distract but makes the book thrilling to listen to. So whether you bread or listen, I really think you'll enjoy this book. Two thumbs up.

Again, I might opt for a rating of 3.5, if it was available. While I enjoyed the story line and characters, it does not seem to me that this series is as well written as some of Eason’s other books.

This is the story of an abused woman who seeks to start over in a new location ad chooses a mountain community where the house her grandfather left her is located.

A bank robbery while she, her infant daughter, and an off-duty police officer, Reese, are customers, starts the saga of attacks and escapes.

Maggie Bennett and her daughter have relocated in Rose Mountain to get out of danger. Then she is caught in a bank robbery which turns out to be an attempt on her life. Reese is a police officer, recently relocated to Rose Mountain, who ends up becoming involved with the young mother and daughter despite his horrific history of losing his wife and baby.

Typical suspenseful romance. Engaging and clean. Easy to read quickly.

Best of the Series!

In this book, the characters were developed better and plot seemed more substantial. The action was still displaced with twists like in the other books in the series. Belle, the precious baby was even well developed. I couldn't help being scared for her and crying when she was missing. I definitely recommend this book!

This novel involves a woman who has escaped an abusive marriage only to learn that she is being targeted by someone who wants her dead. The plot has lots of twists and turns until Maggie finally learns who is determined to kill her. Lynette Eason is a writer who is able to produce a suspenseful, credible story, and she has done just that with Danger on the Mountain.
