Her neighbors in Dry Creek, Montana, think Gracie Stone is rebuilding her life just fine on the family ranch. But Calen Gray knows better. Foreman of nearby Elkton Ranch, Calen has been sweet on Gracie half their lives. But harrowing circumstances kept them apart—and sent Gracie away. Now she's back, barely holding her head up, and refusing to believe she has a second chance at happiness. With faith, love and the gentle airing of long-held secrets, Calen just might find a way to bring back her smile—forever.
Janet grew up in the wide open spaces of rural Montana and now lives in the urban spaces of Pasadena, California. She's used both of these locations in her books. Her Dry Creek, Montana series numbers over twenty novels now and her Pasadena books, The Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches, number four.
It's nice to see Gracie finally get her story and her second chance at love after spending years in prison for a crime she didn't commit. Calen Gray has loved Gracie Stone for most of his life and he hopes that someday she will return his feelings and learn to trust him. This is a very sweet love story. It's nice to catch up with the whole Stone family, and Calen's granddaughter Tessie is adorable.
Second Chance in Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad Dry Creek Series Book 22 Return to Dry Creek Book 4 Gracie Stone has all three of her sons back on the family ranch in Dry Creek and they are all happily married. Now they think that mom should find a good man and give marriage a second chance. After the way her late husband abused her--Gracie isn’t so sure she likes the idea of marriage, of ever trusting another man that way. Calen Gray is foreman at Elkton Ranch and has always held a flame for Gracie. Only Buck Stone had asked her out before he got up the nerve. And after the way Buck treated Gracie after they married, Calen believed he had failed her by not helping her while married and not doing more to defend her after the murder. And now they are suddenly thrown together and he couldn’t be happier. Will he have the courage to tell this beautiful woman what’s been in his heart all these years or will his silence keep them apart?
Welcome to Janet’s small town of Dry Creek. Where not much gets past Edith Hargrove or the other folks in this town. Where faith, food, fun and romance abound but the road is usually a bit bumpy on the way to the happy ending. I always enjoy my time in Dry Creek and look forward to the next visit. **Received through NetGalley for review http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...#
Good book. Gracie is settled back on the family ranch and happy that her sons are all married and settled down. Now they want to see her have a second chance at love. Calen works on the ranch next door and has always been sweet on Gracie. One night there's a knock on the door and it's an injured young woman with a child. The woman turns out to be Calen's daughter and she has her daughter with her, on the run from her abusive husband. As Gracie helps take care of the little girl, Calen is able to spend time with her and show her that she can trust again. I liked Calen and Gracie. He has liked Gracie since they were teenagers, but her husband had asked her out first so Calen was out of luck. He has felt guilty for not being able to protect her from Buck's abuse and for not being there for her when she went to prison. Now he knows he must be patient and show her that he is just what she needs. Gracie still feels that she is looked down on and barely interacts with other people. Calen's kindness to her makes her want to trust him, but she doesn't know if she can. Seeing him with his granddaughter and having him around to help her opens her eyes to the kind of man he is. I really enjoyed the conclusion to this story.
Janet never disappoints her readers! This book is non-stop action packed. Gracie Stone served time in prison for a crime she did not committ. She has a hard time believing the people in Dry Creek will be willing to give her a "Second Chance"..... when she is not willing to herself one. So many times in life we are our own enemy to the extent that punish ourselves unneccessarily. Calen Gray has always loved Gracie, but never admitted it to her because of the friendship he had with her husband. After Gracie got out of prison, He formed friendship with her. Calen's daughter comes back into his life with her own problems. To find out if everything works out,you will have to read the book.
Janet has once again given us great characters to fall in love with! Gracie and Calen are older than the usual characters but they have been given a "second chance" at love. Gracie had an abusive first marriage and doesn't think she worthy to try love again. Calen has know her through all of that time and wants to show her that she is. Put them through a mystery and some surprises and as always, some tests, and they will see that they belong together. Gracie's children also want them to be happy and play a role in finding their way back to forgiveness from an abusive father. Thanks Janet, for yet another trip to Dry Creek!
This is one of the Return to Dry Creek books where you get to learn little more about the characters that you have learned to love living there....Just like small town, America folks sometimes leave and then return "Home".
Second Chance in Dry Creek is written by Janet Tronstad
Gracie Stone has spent time in prison for a crime she didnt commit, now returned to Dry Creek to start living again. She has three sons that have always loved her, Jake-Wade & Tyler who are thinking their Mom needs a man in her life and a little match-making has been going on. She has a lovable dog named "Rusty" who is the only man she wants right now,Thank you very much... Life will soon change though as one night as the wind howls outside she hears a car drive in and when someone knocks timidly on the door she knows in her heart something is wrong...after opening the door slowly and realizing a young woman stands there who is not familiar at all, before they can talk the young woman collapses and then Gracie sees the tell-tell bruises and knows this young woman has been abused just as she had been in her life in earlier years. there is much confusion as she calls a neighbor Calen who years ago had given her phone number to call him if she needed him-then quickly calls her son instead along with the sheriff. There had been some robberies in the nearby town and now they find this young woman has been shot and a ski-mask used as bandage on her person. Many questions need answers....when Calen pulls up in his truck and rushes over he soon realizes this is his daughter that he has not seen in years. Oh the plot thickens as after she is taken by ambulance to hospital and the others are starting to get in their vehicles to go they hear small noises like something in distress and realize their is a little girl in the womans car who had been asleep and now awakened..she is frightened of men and will only go to Gracie who instantly feels a special bond with this little one. Gracie and her husband and Calen had all been special friends when they went to school together many years ago and Calen had cared for Gracie too but Buck ask her out first so he had backed off. Now Gracie felt she needed to help Calen with his granddaughter that he is just now finding out he has.. You will want to read this little Love Inspired book that has so much put into the story, abuse...crime..prison...trust and mis-trust...friends reconnecting and love. Thanks Janet for packing so much into this little book, but reminding us there are second-chances sometimes.
Second Chance in Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad 4 STARS I like that Gracie was willing to sacrifice her freedom for her sons. Don't agree with her but admire the sacrifice. I wish I had read the other books in this series. Janet characters are likeable and seam real to me.

Just a nice romance with a little danger on the side. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley. 10/02/2012 PUB Harlequin Harlequin Love Inspired imprint 224 pages
This book tell the story of Gracie who is just back with her childrens after time spent in the prison for things that she did not do; killing her husband and Calen, who have feeling for her since their school days but have to hide his feeling in view that her husband is his best friend. Hence, he rope in Gracie's help when he saw Tessie seem to trust her. Things start to change from there on and Calen is hoping that there is still a second chance happiness for both of them.
Firstly, i did not have a high expectation about this book reason given that the synopsis and the title is rather a bored to me. Yet, when i started to read, the story seems to engaged my attention and i really like the way the author has written the story. Engaging and interesting is what i could summed it up. I like Gracie in this story. She is a noble person and i like the fact that she she is willing to help out in Sunday class despite her reservation that people may not like her to given her past history which indicated her willingness to put other people's need before her.
Happy Endings make for happy readers, right? Yes! It has been enjoyable to get more involved in this series with the lives of people living in Dry Creek, Montana. When I read about Gracie Stone's house, I remembered the way the bedroom had looked, the furniture had worn, and then I continued to learn about the colors and choices that she never go to make. It was encouraging to see Gracie's character develop from a wife of a hard-nosed rancher that was accused of something she didn't do, to a lady who realized that her heart could love again if she opened it just a bit. It was also inspiring to note the other people in her life who were growing in acceptance and neighborly love. Her sons rose to the occasion when they realized there was someone who would be good for their mother and they gave her a second chance also to fall in love. I love Janet's way with descriptions and how she makes these people seem like real people in my life and makes me care for them. Now that I know these hard-working people in Montana, it makes me want to visit sometime....Ah, Yes...in another book! Keep them coming, Janet.
Gracie Stone has been a strong personality that has been a presence in three of Janet Tronstad's books which were sweet romances featuring the Stone brothers, her sons. Fans now get to enjoy the Second Chance in Dry Creek where Gracie has a chance at new love and a better life. Calen Gray, foreman for a local ranch, has admired Gracie for over half of their lives. He finds it hard to forgive himself that he didn't do more to save her from her abusive husband years ago and keep her from prison for the man's death. A young woman passes out on Gracie's porch and she is launched into another period of suspense and danger. Calen is right in the middle of the entire mess, especially after finding out that the person is his daghter and he is a grandfather! Gracie has grown from the abused woman into a strong lady who is more than irresistable to Calen. The two may think that they are past the days of romance in their lives but their hearts have other ideas. This is a lovely, clean romance for Christians, young readers and those who enjoy a sweet story.
Second Chance in Dry Creek is all about Gracie Stone trying to rebuild her life in the town she once lived in before she was arrested. This Christian novel is all about second chances and starting over again. Gracie has to decide if she can learn to trust again....her neighbors, her friends, and most of all her heart. I have not read the other books in this series and it was easy to understand what the book was about. The author explains enough about what happened before this book that I didn't feel like I was lost or confused. Janet Tronstad has a writing style that is easy to read! If you like Christian or inspirational stories, then you will enjoy Second Chance in Dry Creek! Gracie became a character that I felt I knew and one that I was encouraging on in my mind. A little bit of mystery as well, this was an enjoyable read! Three and a half stars! I received a copy of this book for free.
In the previous books in the Return to Dry Creek Series, Gracie has watched her sons find the loves of their lives, marry, and settle down on the family's ranch. In Second Chance in Dry Creek, Gracie still struggles with feeling accepted in the town where she grew up and raised her sons. But she also must recover from the affects of her abusive marriage and its drastic end. Gracie proves that she is a loving and kind woman, caring for neighbor Calen's new-found granddaughter. But learning to trust is difficult for Gracie. However, Calen patiently proves himself worthy of her trust, and they are both given second chances at love and happiness.
I enjoyed this book. I loved reading about Gracie's growth as a person, and getting to know Calen, who has had his eye on Gracie since high school.
I received a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for this review.
This book follows a woman who goes through a hard time in a relationship. She decided to rebuild her life, thinking she could never be truly happy. As you get to know the main character of Gracie you can’t help but cheer her on! As she begins to have feelings for an old friend you wonder if she will give in or give up! I gave this book 5/5 stars. I thought the characters were likable and their conversations flowed. The setting did not really help the story and in reality I felt like it could have been set anywhere. I did, however, enjoy the idea of the book that everyone deserves love and happiness no matter their past circumstances. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a Christian romance that highlights redemption.
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Gracie and Calen. Dry Creek is definitely full of second chances. The story begins with a knock on Gracie's door from a young woman who was shot and in trouble. It brings back many memories for Gracie since she had just been released from prison for the murder of her husband. Quickly we discover that the girl is Calen's daughter who is in trouble with the law because of her husband. Through the story you see Calen and Gracie begin to reconnect through the issues with his daughter and granddaughter. Gracie helps to take care of her while they solve the robberies that Calen's daughter (supposedly) committed. I really enjoyed the building relationship between the characters and the "real life" topic of a family coming from a broken home and beginning the healing process. It's a great read!

I was so glad to see that Gracie got her own story. She sacrificed herself confessing to the murder of her husband to protect her sons. This story starts out with her rebuilding her life in Dry Creek. Calen works on a neighboring ranch and he's had a crush on Gracie since high school, only she choose the man she ended up marrying. Bring in a bit of Calen's past and the two of them end up working together to keep his granddaughter safe. Janet Tronstad is one of my go to authors- she never lets me down as each and every book is a great read. I'm so glad she hasn't given up on writing in Dry Creek!!
This was a really sweet story about two people who should have found each other much sooner, but they had to take a detour first. It was great seeing them both realize that shedding themselves from their pasts was the only way for them to be truly happy with themselves and each other. The ending -though cliche- was very sweet in the sense that [without spoiling the ending] they, in part, opted to start over... where they should have long ago. Goes to show that second chances are ready for the taking at any time (not too cliche if you think about it lol). Good read!
Note: I would like to thank the author for sending this book to me in exchange for review:)
I really liked this book. The man in this book Calen reminded me of a guy in a recent cowboy movie. Gracie Stone is a mother that lives on a ranch in Montana. She had three boys with her first husband. She was released from prison after killing her husband in self defense. After all her boys have married and had kids, they are looking for her to find someone. Calen Gray was her husband's best friend in high school and he is a foreman of a nearby ranch. Circumstances bring them back together after all this time has passed. Basically,Calen finds out he has a granddaughter he never about and at the end of the book Gracie and Calen are married. :)
This is a marvelous, sweet, inspirational romance set in one of my favorite fictional small towns, Dry Creek, Montana. Janet Tronstad takes the story further, though, adding elements of suspense, misconceptions of the reactions of others because of insecurity, and the lingering effects of abuse and how hard forgiveness might be. Gracie Stone has been one of my favorite characters, and it was wonderful to hear more of her story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a story that will keep you involved with the characters from beginning to end.
Dry Creek is an amazing place and the people who live there have come to be dear to my heart. Mrs. Cosgrove and Charley (along with a few others) made their appearance in this novel, along with the main characters, Gracie Stone and Calen Gray. This is a story about trust. It was good to see Gracie get her happy ending after seeing all of her sons get theirs in the previous books. What's next for the town of Dry Creek?
I enjoyed this book about Calen and Gracie. She is suprised when Calens daughter, Renee needs their help ( and also brings her daughter ) to Dry Creek. Gracie has always been fond of Calen, but she is not sure that she is ready for a romantic relationship. However, Calen is sure of his feelings towards Gracie, but dosent want to pressure her until she is ready.
I loved the characters in this book and the "small town" feeling in this series!
If things can go wrong, then they sure did for Gracie, the heroine of the story. After returning home to begin her life again, things start to happen, but her sons and some one that knows she is a great, beautiful person comes to her rescue and now she has a second change at happiness and love.
I loved the book, it’s a clean well written and beautiful love story, Great read.
Second chances are about love, forgiveness, and trust and Janet does a great job of showing the power of each through Gracie's story. Like all the Dry Creek books, every character has an interesting story that connects them to the community even when they don't realize it. Wonderful book to cozy up with and remind us how lucky we are to have those who love us and how much potential there is in the harder relationships.
I enjoyed this book up until the last page (p. 278) when the author called the new love (Calen) her mean dead husband's (Buck) name. Gracie and Calen are at Buck's grave having a conversation and it says, "Buck nodded. "They're smart boys." If Buck got out of his grave and nodded, that would be creepy. For me, it really detracted from the book. I knew it was a typo and tried to correct it in my mind, but it was a terrible mistake.
Lovely story that makes one really believe in second chances. Everyone has something that they would prefer remains hidden. The heroine does not have that privilege. How she dealt with the public knowledge of her past, is an example to all of us. Good things DO happen, even if you have shadows in your history. Learning to lean on the Lord, is something we all need to do.
Gracie Stone, mother to Wade, Jake & Tyler, is rebuilding her life in Dry Creek after serving time for her husband's death. Can she trust men again? Will Calen Gray's daughter, Renee mess it all us for her by showing up with a gunshot wound?
