When big-city cop Grayson Wallace visits an elementary school for career day, he finds his heartstrings unexpectedly tugged by a six-year-old fatherless boy. Gray offers to mentor the child, but widowed mother Elise Lopez wants nothing to do with men in uniform. Now he can't get the struggling Lopezes off his mind. All he can think about is what family means—especially after discovering the identical twin brother he hadn't known he had in Grasslands. Maybe a trip to ranch country is just what he, Elise and little Cory need.
My favorite in this series so far! Elise and Grayson were much more well-rounded and relatable than the other pairs. Like, you could GET them. I wish the engagements in all of these weren’t so rushed, though I do get WHY. Interesting developments in the family plot line as well...
I think Grayson and Elise's story might be my favorite to date in the Texas Twins series. I missed book 2 (which I'll circle back for) but I've read all of the rest. I'm already pining for these characters, as I know I will be when the series ends.
Grayson is strong but a bit arrogant, necessary for a cop perhaps, but those traits aren't always ideal for a beau. Elise is also strong, but in a prideful way, something she must acknowledge in order for their romance to have any hope. A delicious story. The authors have done a fabulous job of keeping the mystery of Belle Colby and Brian Wallace and their family stoked. Readers new to the series can jump right in and be brought up to date, while those who have kept up won't find the story bogged down with backstory. One of the best continuity series I've read.
This has been a delightful series to read. Book four gets us a little closer to solving the mystery of how and why a family with two sets of twins were separated. Grayson is the twin brother of Jack and it doesn't take long for him to get into the whole search for their dad and try to figure out what happened. Meanwhile he's developing a friendship with little Cory and his mother. What a loving, caring guy he is. He can't seem to stay away from them. And he's wanting to help them have a better life at every turn. Looking forward to the next two books in this series. All of the authors have done a fine job so far of making the stories flow well together.
Dnf -- May try again another time??? But probably not. Wondering if I read the same book as everyone else???!!!
Alrighty then… if it’s gonna just hurt your heart to read criticism for this book, do not continue on. Also, there may be some actual story spoilers ahead so if you want to enjoy this book or the previous books in series, do not read the rest of this review. (Although I only read to about page 32, so I doubt there are too many major spoilers in my notes pertaining to this fourth in series).
Two things to keep in mind and therefore take my notes with a grain of salt. First, I think when I tried to read this, I was probably overdosed on “Love Inspired” books (I recommend spacing “LI” books out and not trying to read like 30 of them in a row for a challenge!). Second, it turns out this was book four in a series with other authors; I was under the assumption that it could standalone, but, in retrospect, it would have helped to read them in order.
Okay. So, my eyes started twitching in anticipation of their need to start rolling pretty much from the first few pages. I hadn’t made it all the way through chapter one and I needed to go get some eye drops since the eyeballs were already in jeopardy of getting stuck up in my head! By chapter two I had renamed this soap opera book to be “As the Love-Inspired World Turns”. NOT a good sign for things to come. This soap opera will not only roll your eyeballs, it will twist your logical brain into a complete tangle!! Here are some of the notes I made while reading.
I appreciated the reminder that we need to trust God with each day we're alive, and not just with the question of our eternity. I also thought that the way that Gray and Elise were introduced and first interacted with each other flowed naturally from Gray's time at the elementary school. (I did, however, think that it verged a bit on the 'instalove' trope . . . but then, it seems many of the LI books do that.) We didn't get much more information about the whole Wallace/Colby mystery, but there seems to have been a slight hint given in what makes church secretary Sadie so jumpy and nervous. It will be interesting to see how things play out in the next book(s) in the series.
This is a mini ‘Books For Christian Girls’ review. It is not a full content review and will not receive one. These mini-reviews are years old and just for clarity on the rating the book received on Goodreads.
3/18/2013- “Cute story.”
2/7/2020- Mentioned in a recent video that I would be unhauling this series after rereading it.
Great book. Didn't realized it was part of a series about the twins. I just read it because it was by Glynna Kaye. I am going to get the rest of the books in the series though. They can be stand alone books, but I want to read the whole series.
This was a really great story that keep me reading all along!
Okay, so first of all, if you haven't read the first three books, I recommend you *DON'T* read this. This is a series book and does N.O.T. stand alone. Let me qualify that - compared to #2 and #3, this stands alone FAR better than the others - mostly because Glynna focuses primarily on her story, not the whacked out mess that has been dragging behind every author, tangling them up. Glynna kicks it mostly behind her and manages to tell her tale without tripping too much.
But still.
I have to admit, this story - considering the series - was well-done. Elise lost her cop husband to a shooting, and after discovered that he had gambled her into deep debt. She's widowed with a 6-year old, lost everything, living in a rough neighborhood and doesn't have the education for a well-paying job. She's stuck, and her son is acting out... until a police officer comes to his school, and he develops an extreme hero crush on the very kind of man Elise wants nothing to do with, ever again.
Gray likes the kid. He's attracted to Elise. But his last girlfriend couldn't handle the cop thing, and now Elise has a problem with it, too. He really wants them in his life, though - and he wants to help better their situation, as well.
For the most part, that's the story that Glynna focuses on. She's *SUPPOSED* to include Maddie and Violet and Jack and Sadie and Ty and Kiera and Landon and Darcy and Lupita and Belle and Brian and Jeb and Carter and no I'm *NOT* kidding. But the author mostly came off as having the attitude that 'all that is peripheral' and pushed it to the sides to plow through with her own story. Which I commend her for - I like Arlene James, but even she was stumbling all over that stuff.
Glynna didn't. It was there - that's part of the deal to write in this series - but half of those people were just names, and not important to this story. Thank. THE. *LORD*, because it's getting to be tedious, waiting for SOMETHING to happen.
There were some problems. Arlene James (#3) might have tripped on the baggage, but her story was far better written than this one, and she actually made faith an important part of her writing. In this book? Even when a bullet is shot into her little boy's bedroom window, Elise doesn't pray. Her soul searching consists of inner dialogue while in a church garden - location does not faith make. The spirituality matters GREATLY to me... which bought it a star.
Turns out I read the next book (#5) back in 2013, when I didn't know it was a series and tried to read it as a stand-alone. Interesting, that. Gave the next book star for a lack of faith, bad writing, and Kathryn Springer tripping all over the mess of the story to the point where I was more verbally acerbic than I have been with books #2 and #3, at present - and that's saying something!
And since I've thrown too many Jillian Hart books at the wall, I'm in NO WAY interested in her installment #6, I'm gonna call my interest in this series done, here. We'll just say Belle doesn't ever wake up, Brian died in a ditch, the paternity test says the Earls are money-grubbers, and everyone lives happily ever after in Grassland. The end.
I am continuing to enjoy this series. While each book does a review, I encourage you to read from the start and in order. Each book focuses on a different member of the family, but there is an overlying story that links them all together and it progresses bit by bit with each story.
This is Grayson's story and it did not disappoint. As I said in my review of the first book, the premise of this entire series is a bit unbelievable but the characters are not. I have enjoyed getting to know each one and watching them deal with the ramifications of their family situation. Each book is a romance but also a faith journey. I especially loved Elise's story in this book and while I have never been in her situations, I felt her fears and concerns and understood them. And Cory was a total delight!
This story had me hooked! One of my favorite love inspired books. Loved how I couldn’t fully predict how the story would unfold. I loved the realistic portrayal of how hard it can be being a single mom. How single moms have to give a lot of thought about their children and what’s best for them. Loved this book. Excited to read more books from her!
Actually a great little book! I hadn't realized it was book 4, but I was still able to follow the story line. However, I did order the rest of the books from thriftbooks. Can hardly wait until they come in!!
My very first of Glynna Kaye, and I enjoyed reading this. I must admit that it took me by surprise because, well, after reading so many romance novels with a hot steamy and full of sexual encounters, this book was actually a clean romance, with very little kissing scenes. The reason I bought this book? Merely because it had Paul Marron on the cover! I didn't know that it's part of series. I even didn't bother to actually read the back cover. :D
As to Grayson himself, as the lead in this book, he's a cop with great characters who met a little Cory, whose father died in a duty as a cop. The widow, Elise, didn't want anything to do with a cop since she didn't think she could handle the agony being a cop's wife. The story line was easy to predict, but I really enjoyed reading because it was flowing nicely. I liked both characters, Grayson and Elise, since they're realistic enough. I could actually related to their fears, emotions, hopes and the chemistry. There were times I felt like shaking Elise for trying to be tough and trying to take distance to Grayson. But it's so understandable.
Another surprise for me was that there were lots of sentences talked about God, about how things could be His way to make them see something. There were quite few how the characters prayed silently. I didn't mean it in a preaching way. But maybe that's because I read very different kind of romances previously. :D One thing I learned for sure, is about to have faith in God, to have faith to receive things bravely. Because most of the time, the fear we have inside was because we lack of trust in God. Noted!
It's a quick sweet and heart-warming reading. I can't wait to read the other books, especially the last one since it's about their parents. There were six of them. This book is the forth.
*NOTE: like most of my reviews, this one could be subjective.
Look-Alike Lawman by Glynna Kaye 4 STARS Texas Twin Series I like this series but I think I would like it better if just one writer had written all of the books better. But have enjoyed them all so far and lookforward to the next book and can't wait to see what the answers are to why they were lied to and split up as a family and who sent them the bibles. I fell in love with Cory and just want to hug the first grader. Cory is so loveable and sad at times. Grayson has finally met his twin and his sister Maddie's twin. It is easier to love his new sister over his own twin. Grayson wants answers to thier past too. Grayson is on desk duty till his injury has healed all the way. He hates desk duty so volunteers to go to career day at the elementry school. While he is going around to the different classes Cory comes up to him and tells him his daddy was a policeman but he was killed by a bad guy. He asks him if he knew his dad. Grayson responds that he did not know but that he heard that his daddy was a brave man that saved his partners life. Cory is excited to meet Grayson and wants to be a cop too. His mom wants him to not be a cop. Does not want to be involved with a cop. But when Cory gets suspended when he is fighting she calls Grayson up and asks him to help her son. Elise is now a single mom barely making enough to get by. When her husband was killed two years ago she found out that he gambled all the money they had. She had to sell everything and move into a apartment in a scary part of town. She has a lot of fears. She does not want everyone back home know how bad things are for her. She is working full time, plus internet classes and being the only parent to Cory. I would like to read more books by Glynna kaye in the future.
Look-Alike Lawman by Glynna Kaye Texas Twins Series Book 4 Grayson Wallace did not need a six year old looking at him like he was someone special. He’d already experienced getting attached to a kid and having to let him go. Worse yet was Cory Lopez’s mother, he best keep his distance. He had enough on his plate looking for his missing father, waiting to meet his comatose mother and getting use to the idea of having an identical twin brother he never knew he had. Nope didn’t need any extra burdens.
Elise did not need another man in her or Cory’s life but of all things definitely not another lawman. She knew enough about that life after being married to Duke and living through him being killed on the job. Only she did need help with Cory acting up at school and Gray had offered to mentor him. Who knew it would be hard to push him away once he got his foot inside her door and maybe the man himself had touched her heart.
In this fourth book of the series we meet Grayson, who is Jack’s twin. He just finished his first successful undercover mission and it looked like he would be promoted soon. Only he finds himself torn between the law enforcement work he loves and Elise. Many of the side stories continue in Grasslands and not much progress on the parent front. Although they are more concerned about their missing father. Glynna adds a touch of her own book series by having Elise come from the fictional mountain town of Canyon Springs in the mountains of Arizona.
Book 5 introduces us to Carter Wallace who is a half brother to the twins in The Soldier’s Newfound Family. An exciting series that has the next book begging to be read. But alas, reviews must be written first. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Grayson Wallace laughs when the sheriff near his mother's ranch asks him to apply for the opening on their squad because he is a city cop. While he and his siblings wait for their father to come home from his missionary trip and for his mother to wake up from a coma Gray meets a young boy who needs direction. Cory's mother doesn't want another cop in their life. With two sets of twins plus a little brother with significant others, I think the Colby/Wallace family is going to get bigger.
I just can't get enough of my love inspired inspirationl romances. I can read a book in a day. I do other reading too,but I just enjoy it so. Elise and her fear of cops or getting close to them and then her son taking up with one. Wow, good reading
Started this book around noon and finished at midnight after taking several breaks from reading to do house work but an absolutely amazing book that goes along with the first 3 Texas twin series books! Read this in a day and can't wait to start the 5th book in the morning!
The fourth twin, Grayson Wallace finds his family and his career path tested as he tries to find his way. Elise and her son Cary are having trouble after Duke was shot in the line of duty. Can she accept the help of another police officer?
This was really a sweet book. It had interesting characters that I was really rooting for the whole time. Lots of family issues and past hurts to complicate the issues, but it was always good reading.
Look-Alike Lawman by Glynna Kaye is the fourth book in Harlequin's Love Inspired series Texas Twins. This was a worthy addition to the series. I look forward to more titles by Glynna Kaye.
