Becoming the deep fake of a sitting senator was never part of Kenneth’s life plan. Neither was falling for the detective bent on exposing him.
For most of his adult life, Kenneth has belonged to a crime lord. When his boss offers him a chance to transform into a missing sitting senator, he sees it as his chance to carve a new path for himself. Except the moment he gets his new assignment, Kenneth becomes an even bigger prisoner than ever before. The cameras and a local detective are always watching. One of those things is his new reason to live.
Detective Nic Higgins knows something isn’t quite right with Senator Kenneth Yearly. He just can’t figure out what. Every time he sets eyes on Kenneth, there’s a feeling in his gut. Nic can’t let it go. Unfortunately, curiosity isn’t the only emotion the cold-hearted senator stirs in Nic, and the truth won’t set him free.
Fake Things is the fourth book in Charity Parkerson’s Damaged Devils series. These are dark romance stories with crime lords, assassins, and sociopaths who find their hearts. They are best enjoyed when read in order.
Charity Parkerson is an award winning and multi-published author with several companies. Born with no filter from her brain to her mouth, she decided to take this odd quirk and insert it in her characters.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Kenneth/Jared. He really played the part of evil senator very well. It almost wasn’t believable when he showed his true self to Nic. I’m glad I stuck with it because I really ended up loving Jared.
Nic seemed like a good match for him. He really saw beneath the surface to Jared’s heart. I thought they were really good together. This was a quick and enjoyable read.
I’m so excited that Cree’s story is next. I’m really looking forward to that one.
Kenneth belonged to a crime lord for most of his life and when he was offered the chance to transform into a missing senator he thought he could have a new path in his life. However, the reality is that he is a bigger prisoner now as between the cameras and a local detective had is constantly watched. Detective Nic Higgins knows something isn't quite right with Senator Kenneth Yearly but he can't work out exactly what it is. Unfortunately, curiosity isn’t the only emotion the cold-hearted senator stirs in Nic, and the truth won’t set him free.
I enjoyed this story with the jaded man who is tired of being someone else and can't get rid of his attraction to Nic. I loved that they both had a passion that they tried to skirt around with just dinner but couldn't deny their attraction. I liked the way that the rest of Kenneth's crime lord family appeared to help him with his attraction to Nic and a way that they could stay together. This was easy to read, feel their emotions and understand what was going on. This is an MM story with mature content.
#4 Nic and Kenneth are attracted… Nic, FBI Detective has blonde hair and blue eyes. Kenneth and Jared are the same person. He’s impersonating the Senator, light blue eyes, salt and pepper hair, is slim and looks 35. Kenneth/Jared was lonely. Archer was in charge and this impersonator job did not turn out as planned. Jared was finally getting rid of the wife, who is a horrid person, who didn’t even care about her son, Chad. Kenneth/Jared was having dinner with Nic, but was sure it was a mistake. They learned about one another, the highs and lows of life. These stories has a new and different darkness, hot romance and some evilness that receives justice. I liked these men. ENJOY !
Jared was picked to become Senator Kenneth Yearly by his boss to get tax benefits and other benefits. Nic was and FBI agent who was demoted after the Senator became back to life after three months. But they fell in love. Playing a part can take slot out of you.
It's twisted (and sorta convoluted) but also surprisingly sweet and tender at times too. These stories are super quick, but a lot of fun. They are a unabashedly insta - obsessed, but they are so unhinged it works for them. I'm looking forward to seeing where the next story takes us.
The plot tying all of these books together is so thin at this point, but I enjoyed the relationship in this one so I almost didn't care. Still weirded out by Archer going from grr-I'm-evil to almost-matchmaker, though.
If you like dark romance, I highly recommend this series and this author! The characters are believable and easy to fall in love with. The stories are engrossing, I hated every time I had to pause reading it. I look forward to continuing these books!!
Fake thing is book four in the Damaged Devils series
This is your vibe if you like Short reads Morally grey
Not even surprised that binged another one of these books. They really are just addictive. Short, a little smut and just enough plot to keep you interested.
Plus they also set up the next book with tiny breadcrumbs
Another good outing for this series. The intrigue and mystery definitely draw you in. I feel like it could be flushed out with more detail and back story, though.
My rating scale for Charity books are different than for other books. They just are, don’t ask me why.
Loved these two characters. I liked how their feelings for one another surprised both of them at first. Loved Kenneth’s/Jared vulnerability. He seemed almost innocent in a way. It has the insta feels that all her books have. Took a turn I actually didn’t see coming but I liked it. Still hate Archer though.
I hope Cree is as awesome in his book as he is in the others!
