Dan continues his original, highly imaginative, and brilliant story in book three of the Jason Cosmo Non-Trilogy. Once again he doesn’t let up on the laugh-out-load hilarity, dangerous and potentially life-threatening predicaments, and just all around fantastic fabulousness.
I liked how things got mixed up a bit from its usual routine, all the while Jason struggles to continue to keep the programmed storyline/expected sequence of events going. In ‘Dirty Work’ Jason questions and doubts his role as the hero, and with the additional unexpected surprise at his home in Caratha along with a learned fact about his ancestral lineage, Cosmo charges his next adventure on one of his three credit cards, (Heroes Club, gold Chargemaster, or CarathaBank platinum), for passage on a ship of misfits; a narcoleptic, a man-hater who spits, and a captain with a repeated sinking reputation. If he can survive the voyage, he’ll have to fight off amorous women, the assassin league, a vampire, and once again the Dark Magic Society, in order to keep the Eleven Kingdoms from falling into another Age of Evil.
‘Dirty Work’ concludes with a great set-up for the next and soon to be expected Jason Cosmo book, ‘Noble Cause’. It’s not necessary for you to read any of these books in order. If you haven’t read them yet, I highly suggest that all fantasy lovers should read the just as funny and great reads, ‘Hero Wanted’ and ‘Royal Chaos’.

The fatigue of McGirt's series becomes clear as he's forced to repeat elements from his other stories. He's making fun of stories which grant protagonists uber-equipment and then keep capturing the heroes and taking the stuff away, but after a certain point he's doing that by repeatedly re-enacting what he's mocking and the parody breaks down. Worth reading if you like the characters, though.

This book was my best friend in high school. I read it so many times, I had to get a second copy.
