Primal Instincts #9

Primal Instincts: Volume 9

Rate this book
When you give your heart to someone, there’s always the chance it can be broken.

When you give your heart to more than one person, the chances are significantly greater.

My entire world has erupted in chaos, and the lives of two men I love are in danger. On the outside, I’m holding my head up, but on the inside, I’m curling into a fetal position, wishing someone would hold me so I don’t fall apart. It’s coming. I can feel it. My heart can’t handle the pain of not knowing whether Hawk or Creed will live through the night; it can’t process the fear that Garrison and Nick will meet the same fate.

I’m stuck in this horrible void of nothingness as I wait for someone to give me a lifeline to hold onto. I’m starting to think it will never arrive, and I’ll be left to drift off into oblivion.

Volume 9 is the last book in the Primal Instincts series. Although they endure some dark times, love wins, and this unconventional love story ends happily ever after. As a bonus, there’s a glimpse of the future for Journey, Creed, Hawk, Garrison, and Nick.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicole Edwards spends her days stringing words together to make complete sentences. Sometimes not. Her best friend is coffee, and she has a love/hate relationship with sarcasm. She’s been accused of having a filthy imagination, which she admits is true.

Nicole lives in the suburbs of Austin, Texas. She proudly claims one husband, three grown children, and two bosses (better known as the dogs). When she isn’t writing, watching football or hockey, or keeping her bosses happy, you can probably find her with a book in hand.

Amazing!!

We have finally reached the end of this series and I must say I am sad to say goodbye to these characters. After 9 volumes of love, mystery, laughter, and some tears I am struggling to let go. Finally Hux and Wayne get what they deserve. My only complaint is that I feel like Kim got off easy. Although I understand why, I am a vindictive person and wanted her to suffer more. The events after were bitter sweet. I loved seeing this unconventional relationship grow and get stronger. You can literally feel the love they all have for each other. The ceremony had me in tears. But the absolute best part was the second epilogue! Getting to time jump 20 years in the future and see how their lives have progressed just made me wish even more this story was not over. Hopefully we will see these amazing characters again.

Mixed feelings about this series

* Potential Plot spoilers alert *
The plotline meanders all over the place throughout the series, interspersed with frequent sex scenes and lots of angsty deliberations.
Which then get repeated in every subsequent instalment.
We don't learn who the bad guy is until books six and then only his name and two sentences for reasons.
Re: Wayne, there is no way any employer lets a new member of staff behave the way he did and get away with it for as long as he did.
Likewise said employer should/would have taken steps to protect another employee from Wayne.
Personally, I would have taken every opportunity to ensure he regretted his actions and the fact that Journey failed to retaliate even verbally made the character weaker for depending on the men to sort it out.
The question of ethics should have been addressed, any person in those circumstances should have resigned as soon as their situation was compromised. Journey could have continued her relationships without abandoning her integrity.
Not that the men in question displayed much of a moral backbone either.
The whole work/sex relationship felt icky.
The characterisation is okay. I didn't particularly care much about Journey, it was like reading a teenage angst driven diary half the time.
I disliked Creed intensely, his intentional emotional manipulation and cruelty to Hawk was distinctly unpleasant.
As for the serialisation of the story, I just wish I had been able to purchase them when they were on offer because I really don't think the story was worth the money.
So, why then did I purchase all nine?
Because the author took a chance on creating a plotline in the hope that it would capture interest enough to persuade readers to buy into it.
Congratulations, it worked and I did buy into it. However, I think the series could have been condensed into three books with ease and without any loss of cohesion.
There was far too much introspection and angst.
There is a lot of swearing including the 'C' word.
There was far too much sex, I literally skipped through them because even if they are kinky hot there are only so many times you can read the same activities before they become meaningless.
They don't move the story forward, the scenes are just page fillers.
Would I recommend the series?
No, not really and certainly not at full price.

There is a cover changes. Is it the ties of 5 souls?

Primal Instincts has been a roller coaster of characters. Yes, the main 5 - Creed, Nick, Garrison, Hawk and their live Journey. Before I review this, the list instalment, I’d like to give an overall account of the 9 instalments.
Each read outdid my expectations. They were all unique as they had their own POV’s. They all also centred on Journeyand how each interacted with her. This wasn’t a slap and tickle read. There was drama, emotional chaos, sinful encounters and hidden messages. Life circumstances and yes, challenges.

*An awareness of Mental Health

Volume 9 summed up the instalments. Throughout, we were given food for thought. Questioned each ending trying to solve the mystery within. Each page had you wanting more, and more we got. A perfect ending in Volume 9. Yes, till the last page, you are drawn in. There was never a dull moment. So enjoyed the x 2 epilogues. Not what I expected but was well worth it.
Overall - : Overwhelming
: Stimulating
: Intoxicating
: Loving - Dominating
: Submitting - Emotional
: Succulent
: M/F - M/M - M/F/M - M/M/M

Would love to see an extension from Primal Instincts. Yes, as mentioned prior, Rule made his appearance and yes, he too has a storyline. A series that needs to be definitely read in order, you will feel for Creed.

Primal Instincts: Volumes 1-9

When Volume 1 came out I was intrigued, so I read it and was captivated! Since I am a fan of reading an entire saga at one time I patiently (not so patiently) collected all of them until after volume 9 was released. The story line holds your interest through out. As soon as one volume is complete you move to the next trying to figure out the newest twist and turn of all the intertwining lines. Once again, Nicole Edwards has done a wonderful job dealing not only with today's different lifestyles, but also addresses issues that have been occurring in the work place more and more frequently. Thank you!

I can not wait until the next time she releases a new book!

WOW JUST WOW NOT ENOUGH STARS!!!!

What an awesome book(all 9 of them). I loved this story. I was drawn into this story from the first chapter. What a unique love they shared. All of this book, story line, characters, emotions, all of it was beautifully written. I read the first 4 books as they came out. Then I got smart, lol. The rest of the volumes I bought but waited until the last one to read them. I'm a loyal fan of this authors books. Thank you for a wonderful reading experience.

Now we’ve gotten here….

Now we’ve gotten here and got the rest of the answers to all the questions I had. I am so sad that this was the end of their story. Yes it ended as it should have with the love of all five of them standing the rest of time and ups and downs. I really don’t know what I am going to do in two weeks when there isn’t another volume to come out. I hope that maybe one day we will get the kids stories and we will see the parents in there.

Not for sure about this series.

I have given this series mostly good ratings, but that’s due to how the author handled this story. I have loved this author since I first found her. The Walkers are one of the greatest series I have ever read. I fell in love with all those characters and try to get ant info on them I can. This story was really different for me. I feel like we had to many alphas in this story, so to me would true alphas truly share like this. Just my opinion.

Loved it

I loved this series! I am not a reader who like series as they seem to take forever for the next book. Nicole made this one easy to read as a new book was released every two weeks.

This series is all about love. It didn't matter that Journey fell in love with four guys. This series follow that love and relationship. I was amazed how they made it work and was happy that they dis!!!

Thank you Nicole foe another great one!!! You never disappoint!!!

Volume 9
This is it!! This is the kind of series/serial every reader longs for. From start to finish you'll experience so many emotions, all the highs and lows, and even devastation, only to be brought full circle with a happily ever after.
I loved this journey, these characters, this experience.
Binge worthy storytelling for the lover of unconventional romance.

good ending

Very please with the conclusion. Only thing that would’ve made it better would’ve been had creed had his own baby 😬 now time to start from the beginning again.

Volumes 1 thru 8 were good and built the storyline and tension well. Volume 9 felt like an afterthought and that it was written because the author had committed to writing 9 volumes,

5 Stars

After 9 volumes, we've finally reached the finale of this epic tale. It's bittersweet and I admit that I am not ready to let Creed, Hawk, Nick, Garrison and Journey go. For the entire 9 books, I've been immersed in their world and felt every sentiment they've felt to get to their HEA. This is one of the best reverse harem stories I've read. The way the characters were authored is just perfect for this unconventional relationship of 5. I am so grateful that Nicole wrote a long Epilogue that features their lives after 20 years.
Nicole cited in her acknowledgement that this novel wasn't an easy stunt. I totally agree with her. Since I comprehend the intricacies of writing a menage story, how much more for a reverse harem that ends with an awesome HEA? I'm not always a fan of books that span through volumes, but this series has made me anticipate every 2 weeks. Always excited about what's going to happen next and leave me hanging every time it ends in a cliffhanger with a smile on my face instead of being upset.
Thank you, Ms. Edwards, for sharing with us the story of these 5 wonderful characters. I have enjoyed it enormously. Looking forward to Rule's book and any of your upcoming books.
