James and his group come up with a plan to reach the military checkpoint, but they realize too late that danger comes not just from outside the safety of the town hall, but within it, too.
Heather needs to decide whether she can trust a group of strangers to help her and her sister.
Pierce’s team has been left stranded in the city, and they can no longer count on extraction. They must find their own way out.
Still trapped at the lab, Daniel and his coworkers succumb to madness and disease one by one as the days go by.
In order to protect her son who is growing increasingly ill, Krista must take drastic measures. Is there a cost too high?
With the number of the living dwindling and the infected increasing, one thing is clear – the city is a tomb, and it won’t allow anyone to leave freely.
"Boris is my favorite author on Nosleep, he's always killing it with his stories!" "The security guard series is the best one ever!!" "I love the subtle connection between each story." "Like R.L. Stine, but better." "I want to see this book as a Netflix mini-series!" "No one can scare me like Boris."
Both traditionally and self-published, Boris is a prolific writer whose horror novels often find themselves on the #1 bestselling ranks. With the books he has published, he is quickly becoming a big name in the horror community.
His stories have been narrated by famous YouTube and podcast narrators, including MrCreepypasta, CreepsMcPasta, DrCreepen, etc. His book, Tales of a Security Guard, is currently in the works to become a short film.
This one was primarily focused on the interactions amongst the "healthy", with little involvement by the "infected". Of course, by this point, many of the "healthy" have become more horrifying than any of the "infected"! 😱
Still loving this series but book four dragged a bit. It was more focused on the past lives of the characters, and less on current events. Feeling nauseous for Heather and Angela. Men stop being men during a zombie apocalypse.
I felt like in this fourth installment we had less action and suspense. Our characters are finding themselves dealing less with the infected and more with non-infected. And, also struggling with their internal demons and trying to keep their wits about them.
While that's terrifying, I felt this book was missing a bit of that action and pulse-pounding moments that the first 3 novellas had.
Some things are revealed about the virus, parasite...but I wouldn't say I found it jaw dropping.
I still struggle with
That said, I'm going to finish this series cause I want to see what happens at the end. And will be rooting for some zombie to take a chunk out of Ben.
I'm really not getting Heather. One minute she literally hates her sister and is willing to kill her and the next she's super protective of her and wants to protect her and her childhood innocence. It doesn't make sense. I don't care how much stress you're under, no one would actually consider killing their own sister unless they were just a full blown piece of shit and now it feels like she's just done a 180 and wants to protect her with her life. This kind of inconsistency with characters happened multiple times though I don't remember every example other than Daniel. He acted so annoyed with Melissa in one book and was just weird and had a sick sense of humor and liked to make people uncomfortable and now he's fucking her and seems like a somewhat normal dude with feelings.
And then political bullshit just had to come into play. Really getting tired of this shit in books. What is the actual point. Had to throw a Trump supporter in there and of course gotta make him dangerous and problematic because Republicans are just the fucking devil, am I right? 🙄
These things are quickly turning me off of this series. The writing sucks so bad but I was getting invested in the story and characters but I'm getting more annoyed than anything at this point.
He knows you’re responsible for thousands of deaths, if not more. If he thinks killing you will make this right, then you’re damn right he will pull the trigger.
Edging closer to the city’s borders, the survivors are tasked with the unthinkable as many find themselves in unfortunate positions. Deciding to forgo Andrew's warnings about the second floor, Heather would see a brutal side of him she never wished for and find herself now facing the same. Watching Scott (the cook from her first day), tied and beaten, she watched his throat be slit as she stalked those hallways looking for her younger sister Abby. Being groomed by Andrew and his charms, Abby is now turning her loyalty towards him as he makes her promise to keep their games and Interactions a secret. Desperate to leave, she believes she's found trust in Rita, but she's quick to sell her out to Andrew. Now, she's captured and facing the unknown as she's drug away upstairs. James, Ricky, Angela and Ben have found themselves in the clock tower, someplace safe from the ongoing hoards outside. Distain towards Ben is rising as he attitude grows worst towards the others, his selfishness growing thicker. With a list growing for Angela, she wants nothing to do with him and regrets the moment he even joined them. When James and Ricky follow the underground passage and prepare for the distraction, Ben puts a gun to Angela's temple, refusing to let her leave. Meanwhile team Alpha (Pierce, Lincoln, and Shepherd) left their Captain (Reynolds) handcuffed next to the executed doctor as Welco Labs after he seemed to snap into a bloodthirsty man. Making their way to the abandoned radio Tower, they listened for Owen's voice as he promised safety as they soon will make their way to a military checkpoint. Almost denied entry, they managed to make it through the door where they now can breathe for the first time since they've been sent inside the abandoned city.
Days passed. Had it been that long? Or was it weeks?
I rated this low because while I like the series, I’m not a fan of when people start going insane so early on. This happens all the time in apocalyptic stories for some reason. It’s only been a few days or a week maybe and people are already committing suicide, creating a society that doesn’t want to leave and then kill others who don’t follow their rules or wants to leave, or people talking to dead bodies to vent or cope. It’s just way too early imo for people to go insane.
Also I get that the author doesn’t like Donald Trump because he’s made fun of him in another book, but I wish he would stop. It take me out of the fun story and back into reality. It also ruins the dating of a story. So when you say someone like Trump, I immediately think this story is happening during or around his term. I’d rather that not be the case. I like when I pick up a book, read and love the story, and then find out that it was written in the 80s and be completely shocked it’s that old and not somewhat new.
“Oh, you poor fools. You don’t know. Go on, Captain. Tell your team why you’re really here.”
From Dr. Kidman to terrifying tunnels to a mysterious arcade, we get creepy new urban spots in book four.
Heather and Abby meet Andrew and his crew.
Alpha Team leaves a man at Welco Labs…
Pierce completely steals the show in this novel. Visiting his old stomping grounds; facing his fears—Pierce's perspective and damage are supremely compelling.
James’s group finds refuge at City Hall.
Krista’s chapters, still, remain the chink in the armor. The other five POV characters are incredibly fascinating.
Ominous vibes at the police station.
Out of nowhere, at the radio station…Seriously? Politics in a ZA book? Incredibly disappointing that the author goes there.
Melissa takes a turn for the worse; Daniel makes a surprising discovery.
Boris turns up the fear dial on Angela—and Heather. Their situations become ever more precarious.
“James could hear the cries of the infected army punctuating the air and, with it, a sense of foreboding that he couldn’t put into words.”
The infected keep infecting the uninfected. The city is rampant with mindless killers who are plagued by madness. The few survivors are up against hordes of these killing machines. James and his team are no longer safe in the cathedral. Heather is not sure whether she should trust a stranger who offers them a safe place. Daniel is in dire straits and Pierce has to find a way out of their present hell. Can Krista save her sick son? Interesting story line describing the courageous ways the survivors are planning to remain alive and the various ploys being used to escape from death and madness.
This series is slow moving. But fast paced. If that makes sense. You do get zombie action, if that's what you're looking for. But maybe I'm too impatient when the characters get themselves into trouble and the book ends on a cliffhanger. Heather has redeemed herself. I think I should have mentioned that being a young woman who has had to all but put her life on hold for her sister could not have been easy. Resentment is normal. But there were parts of the first two books or so where she did questionable things, Especially since Abby isn't at fault for her special needs. Also, I mentioned this before. But is Abby written correctly? Ben, ugh. He better get his!
I read the series in order . and so far I just finished book 4 , starting book 5 . At first , I was a little disappointed about how the characters were all separated . But as I kept reading the characters ( Ben and James) stories merged together . It was more of a descriptive story and not a lot of the characters having dialogue. There was a few times I got a little scared and had to put down the book . so overall , I'd give the series a 4 . Would I read more books from this author ? Sure .
This was kind of predictable. Don't people always show their true colors in the apocalypse? I hope Angela makes it. She's the only good character in the story. Heather makes bad decisions and what's Andrew doing with Abigail (eww). Is Melissa turning and will the Dr. Leave her? Is Krista son gonna eat her because he's been changed already. Lets find out in the next book.
James thinks they have found a way out, but it may be too good to be true. Some of the survivors discoverer they can't trust everyone they meet. The disease is spreading. Some are infected and haven't changed yet. Is anyone in town unaffected? Will anyone survive?
Like in most zombie apocalypse novels, there is always a point where where healthy people start being just as monstrous as the zombies. That is what happens in this book in the series. I rated the first three books 4-stars, but that has to increase at this point. I'm going to read this whole series on a single day; it's so good.
I really loved this series but I hate that the author brought politics into it. If I wanted to read a book that hated on trump and republicans, I would have picked something different than an apocalyptic zombie book. But I read for enjoyment and to escape all the nonsense. I think I will have to stop reading this series, it really just turned me off. It’s sad because I enjoyed it.
This book seems fairly realistic to me which is why it is interesting. The zombies die eventually if they don’t get prey and people are also going a little crazy without big governments everywhere. Pretty sure no one would have trusted Ben this much but I can also see it happening at the same time.
Really enjoying this series. It's got lots of twists and turns and just as many lunatics running round . The zombies are not the only threat out there.Looking forward to the next book.
The fourth installment of this series had me, again, on the edge of my seat! I could not put this book down! The character's storylines are going in directions that I never would have guessed.
Really enjoying the story so far. I definitely believe that we are around people every day who don't need much of a push at all to plunge into psychopathic behavior, or madness.
ohhhh myyy gawwd! I have no time for a proper review of this book..... I MUST get the the next one to see what happens next. cliffhanger ending to this one. bad!! love it!!!
Wow I couldn't putt this down just like with books 1 - 3. Each book introduces you to new shocks. I'm reading the next one straight away. Boris Bacic is a horror writer and I want to read more by him.
The next thing she knew, she was on the floor, her lower lip painful, Ben standing above her. Angela quickly scrambled to her feet, but Ben’s foot connected with her abdomen before she could stand up. She was back on the floor, gasping for air.
