Elliot S. Maggin, also spelled Elliot S! Maggin, is an American writer of comic books, film, television and novels. He was a main writer for DC Comics during the Bronze and early Modern ages of comics in the 1970s and 1980s. He is particularly associated with the character of Superman.
DC Comics Presents #87 is a DC Comic issue written by Elliot Simaggin, drawn by Curt Swain and Al Williamson, and colors by Gene D’Angelo. It is cover dated November 1985.
Set during Crisis on Infinite Earths and shortly after the death of Supergirl, Superman is grieving. While in isolation on the moon, he is transported to Earth-Prime, an Earth without any superheroes but to his surprise he stumbles upon a young Superboy who is just discovering his powers.
This issue is one of my all-time favorite covers and is the first appearance of Superboy-Prime, who will go on to become one of my all time favorite villains. This issue is pretty standard fare for an issue of its time and serves as an intro for the character who will go on to play a major role in the conclusion of the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. It’s hard to believe this humble intro would end up creating major shockwaves through the DC Universe 20 years later during the Infinite Crisis event.

The brat from the inferior sequel crossover Infinite Crisis is still an idealistic youth here. An entertaining and relevant side story from the Crisis set on Earth Prime, which, until this story, was supposed to be the real world where the DC comics writers and readers live.
