Rate this book
Civil War is Not a Stupid Thing Addresses the issues about increased violence in the developing countries with two common perspectives. The first is the liberal interpretation, and the second is a romantic, utopian view of violence. This book aims to forge an alternative way of understanding the role of violence in the transition to capitalism and a global economy. Full description

I enjoyed this book, broadened my perspective and introduced some very key ideas ! Especially enjoyed all references to the FARC and I think my favourite chapter was chapter 4!

Cramer turns conventional definitions of war upside down, and then spins them in every direction imaginable. A thought-provoking but difficult read - if I pick this book up again next year, chances are I'll get just as much, if not more out of it. War does not necessarily mean an end to development, nor does peace necessarily promote it. Thanks to Richard Cornwel for recommending the book.
