Badass by birth. Drifter by choice. Vigilante because justice requires it.
Trained by his Navy SEAL father, to survive a societal collapse that never came, Nate Vigil wanders across America to see for himself the state of the nation and the character of those who call it home.
But a man with a code inevitably crosses paths with con men, criminals, and the corrupt.
They think he’s a minor setback. That they’ll get away with it. They’re wrong. Justice will prevail and Nate Vigil will deliver it—vigilante style.

VIGIL . . .
Hitchhiking to Austin, Texas, Nate Vigil is reminded that no one rides for free: A stolen kiss, conversation, or a good ol' fashioned ass-kicking--Vigil has many ways to pay.
A must-read for fans of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, Barry Eisler’s John Rain, or Gregg Hurwitz’s ORPHAN X.
I'm biased, of course. I wrote it! It's a short read, even for a novella, but I think it delivers on endearing the reader to Nate Vigil's character, with a satisfying payoff.
Since I’d read “In the Wind” prior to this “freebie” the only new part was the very beginning in the novella. And, it is as good as it can get to introducing Vigil. Well written. Ya wanna dance the dance Black has brewed for you in this short novella. Enjoy!
Vigil by Conor Black surprised me. I thought I was reading a Jack Reacher story, as Vigil is the same type of person—he has no luggage or even a toothbrush and showers with his clothes on. He is hitchhiking through Texas and finds rides with a truck driver and later a salesperson. He has his first confrontation, and then the story ends. Turns out this is an intro and teaser to a new Vigil series. This was way too short, but has interested me enough to get the first book in the series.
This is a an intense start to a new series Vigilante Justice. This is a quick read novella with enough bones to keep your interest and the character has alot of room to grow. Reading it my mind went to Jack Reacher on steroids a drifter with manners who lives by his own code. I think the series will be very interesting and give us more insight into Vigil and his background. Looking forward to the next book.
What a great introduction to someone trained from birth to be his own man and to look out for the honest guys. Clever name too for a vigilante. I hope there will be more Vigil-adventures.
I liked the Lee Child reference. Would have liked to learn more about Vigil, but that's more likely in the full length book. But overall, an enjoyable read.
