Shamanic Experience: A Practical Guide to Psychic Powers is one of the best books I have ever read on shamanism and honing your abilities. Kenneth Meadows writes so clearly, that anybody regardless of age or experience can understand his ideas. Topics explained in A Practical Guide to Psychic Powers is tools, spirit animals, trees, crystals, and vision questing.
Shamanism is a simple concept to understand, but one that gets bogged down by other people's terminology or perspectives. In addition, I appreciate how Meadows teaches the reader to understand nature and themselves without coming off as a dogmatic prick. Sanctimonious writing makes me want to throw a book into the wall, and scream "Next!" I am channeling my inner Elaine Bennis.
Futhermore, Meadows slowly builds on each lesson so that the reader is able to truly understand what he is explaining. Each exercise is short and simple. Meadows allows the reader to work in any environment that is comfortable. Unfortunately, many New Age or Pagan writers make demands from their readers when it comes to carrying out a lesson or ritual. That logic makes no sense to me, because the whole point of a guide book is to help people. If one makes the instructions impossible to follow, who is the writer helping? Moreover, A Practical Guide to Psychic Powers comes with a cd that Meadows himself recorded. I am very experienced in my pathworking so I did not think it was necessary to listen to the cd. Also, I don't own a cd player. It's all Bluetooth or records for me. The first track is for meditation and short pathwork. The second track is for longer journeys.
As a heathen I appreciate the inclusion of the Yggdrasil in this book. I also thought it was neat how Meadows included maps for different mythos, the human spirit, body, and mind. I never thought about incorporating the four world with my mind. There is some psychology involved, but nothing that is too complicated.
Overall, whether you're new to shamanism or have 10+ years of experience Shamanic Experience: A Practical Guide to Psychic Powers will be a delight to read.
Excellent book in everyday possible . Talks about Body Self, Hidden self physical self and the higher self. Talks about the different dimensions and etc. Talks about totems animal guides, tree guides and archetypes. Overall a great book and a big fan of it. Comes with Shamanic Drumming Cd-rom if purchase brand new. Shamanism has changed my life and for the better. I was never a believing in spirits or guides or GOD but after my sessions I am 100% believer and all the way in. Thank you GOD for making me a true believer. Godless the whole world.
DNF, Some of the first sentences made absolutely no sense and had words repeated several times so I was immediately suspicious about trying to read further.
The book covers general techniques that are taught in most New Age volumes, besides the part going over native American masks, rattles and drums, etc, there was nothing new here and much better works exist.
I found a lot of these things repetitive in regards to the exercises that are offered. Many standard New Age books would have these things already. I have not yet listened to the drum CD which was included.
