Her father’s army came to conquer their homeland, but the barbarians of the Harrows will be the ones to conquer her. Vasenia has hated her life in Eretamia ever since her father, Imperator Supreme of the Sadoran Army, forced her to join him on his military campaign in the gloomy, backwater colony far away from the high society of the capital. But when her betrothed retrieves her for their wedding, she assumes the gods have finally shined their favor upon her.

Until her caravan is attacked along the forbidden, northern border and Vasenia finds herself in a hell far worse than Eretamia and at the mercy of three ruthless warriors. No, not warriors—Harrow demons.

Barbarians. Savages. Harrow demons. Warriors Marek, Gaeb, and Ryfin and their people, the half-fae Itheni, are known by many names but understood by few who live south of the magical border that protects their home, least of all by the Sadoran invaders.

But when the three warriors rescue a Sadoran woman on their trek home, they discover she’s more than just another invader. She’s half-fae too, a descendent of the lost women whose connection to their people was severed by a curse a thousand years ago.

When an ancient bond links her to them, Marek, Gaeb, and Ryfin realize they have no choice; they must bring their enemy home. But if they want to keep her, they’ll have to claim her and bind her to the fae by the only means they pleasure.

Jacinda Hale writes steamy romance and resides mostly in her head where it’s always a crisp, fall day and all the lovers are at least a little bit enemies first. When real life beckons and she has to leave behind her fantastical worlds, she can be found hoarding the mango Jolly Ranchers and explaining to anyone who will listen that watching Dateline and reality dating shows has taught her three things: (1) always ask for a lawyer, (2) never date a pharmaceutical rep, and (3) don’t trust anyone who says they’ve learned something from watching Dateline and reality dating shows.

Should I read in order?
You should read the series in order but this is the first book so you’re good to start here!

Basic plot:
Vasenia is traveling for her wedding when her caravan is attacked and she’s rescued by 3 Harrow demons that live through the northern magical border.

Give this a try if you want:
- fantasy romance complete with a new world, clans, social structures, and customs
- fated mates
- some light language barrier
- enemies to lovers (captive/captor relationship)
- why choose (reverse harem) dynamics – MMFM scenes
- lots of amazing tension building!
- kinks include exhibitionism, voyeurism, some light bondage
- tattooed heroes
- high steam – 7 full scenes with various pairings between the 4 of them

First line:
I don’t recommend travel by war caravan.

My thoughts:
I loved this book so much! This is my second why choose novel and I am really enjoying them.

This is book 1 of the series and I thought Hale did a great job of starting to build the world, giving us some character depth, and establishing the relationship. I was left with questions, of course, and I’m hoping the next book answers a lot of them. (I’m not sure how many books are planned).

I did love that all characters got page time from their perspective. Vasenia and Gaeb were pretty well developed and Ryfin started to get there too. I will say I was left wanting more from Marek’s head – he is still such a mystery so I didn’t connect with him quite as much as the other characters.

I can’t say I love Vasenia yet, but I respect her survival minded determination. We’ve gotten some hints about what her life was like as the motherless daughter of the commander of the Sadoran Army and it helps you understand where she’s coming from.

The steam was really great in this one. I loved that it didn’t happen immediately and there were some really great tension building scenes in the beginning.

Overall I’m really eager to read more of the series!

ARC read **
Wow Jacinda what have you done to me? I totally consumed this book at an unheard of pace for me. You had me hooked right from the start.

You introduced me to a strong FMC, Vasenia who I believe is going to be a force of nature in the next book. We then met our trio, all with their own personalities. Marek, Gaeb & Ryfin. All strong in their own right but they bring various qualities to this binding quartet. I instantly fell in love with Gaed , he is just perfect ... perfect for Vasenia... perfect for Ryfin and in a different way, perfect for Marek. Ryfin's story needs more time to unfold but I suspect a considerable amount of heartache along the way, from the back story that we already have. Marek, the leader of this group, the commander, the one who won't let down his walls, he is my rock. He will suffer the most and he will be hardest on himself, both for what he did and didn't do or say to Vasenia.

You transported me to a different time and place, and I could visualise the world of the Harrows. I was able to hear the song, feel the binding and the emotions of all of them. The spice that the Goddesses binding brings is SO HOT!!! The escalation as her Essence rises is just perfect.

I new the ending was coming and I predicted what the ending would be, but it still didn't stop me from crying for Gaeb, Marek and yes, even Ryfin. How are they going
to survive, how is Vasenia going to survive, more importantly how am I going to survive?

Loved this from the start and looking forward to Ithen Bound Book 2

ARC Read:
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. *HINTED SPOILERS*
Wow. This is a wonderfully created world by Jacinda Hale. The angst and brewing drama between the Sardoran's and Itheni especially, I felt it all so strongly. I have to admit, though, I did have to bookmark the glossary page and go back and forth a few times until I had the vocabulary and definitions down.

This is an MMMF/RH romance. There might be some more fantasy/magic moments in later books, but this one especially is more background-building and just gives some small definitions and contextual clues. However, I see some power being used in the future!

The characters:
Vasenia is our FMC. Overall, a pretty awesome character. She's got a good head on her shoulders and is cunning and a bit ruthless, although plagued a bit by her ideology. Comes from a powerful position, and that's obvious. However, one problem I had, she was taught how to fight, as in not your 'typical lady' but we rarely see this in action. There's a bit of play fighting and a few skirmishes, but nothing that really shows her supposed skills. I'm guessing we'll see more of that in the next book. I do like her though, she keeps me guessing about what's going to happen next!

Marek, Gaeb, and Ryfin (our warriors) are some great characters. Ryfin is going to make me cry, no doubt. Marek makes me super anxious with his whole demeanor and refusal to accept the obvious. And Gaeb, sweet, sweet Gaeb, my little cinnamon roll. I want him to be real, so much. Occasionally, Ryfin and Marek made me angry, their whole puffed chests and cocky attitudes made me roll my eyes. No man is sexy when he's being a dick, but I get some of why that is, so somewhat understandable in certain contexts.

What to expect:
World building with light fantasy
LGBTQ+
Alpha males (a few times a bit too hypermasculine for me)
and lots of SPICE! Like, chapters and chapters of it.

I would definitely recommend this book. I cannot wait until the second, I'm so anxious about what Vasenia is going to do! I honestly cannot tell where she is going to go next, I just know one of her decisions is going to bite her in the bum though. Jacinda Hale, well done! I can't wait to read what's next!

This was so close to being a DNF, which I’m really bummed about. The concept was fun, the first few chapters were gripping, and the writing style was good!

…I just feel like this lost momentum and interest as the book continued. Instead of giving the reader a deepening sense of plot and tension, Blade & Thistle seemed overly interested in giving us a repetitive idea—semi-spoiler: our female main character was trapped in this kidnapping scenario and plans to scheme her way out with false trust—and then filling the rest of the pages out with sex/sexual-discussion-heavy scenes.

I like my spice as much as the next smut lover! But I need…a plot and sense of three dimensional characters to go with it 🤷‍♀️ Which I sadly didn’t get from this.

I wanted to feel like the three male love interests were real, complex people. Besides one identifying emotional “thing” for each guy—one had a dead sister via betrayal, one had a hatred for the female main character’s race because he was enslaved, and the one was the easy-going one—they didn’t feel like complex people beyond those singular identifiers.

I had similar issues with our main female character, although she did have much more depth than the men.

Oh well! Not for me. But still check this out if you’re interested in a very easy, fast paced, and sexual read.

Enemies or Lovers?

A refreshing start to a new Romantasy series that is an Enemies to Lovers, Reverse Harem Fantasy. You get a taste of everything:

❤️‍🔥Why Choose Romance 😈
❤️‍🔥MMFM 👬👫
❤️‍🔥Do Cross ⚔️
❤️‍🔥Political Drama 🎭
❤️‍🔥Warring Realms 🪖
❤️‍🔥Magic ✨
❤️‍🔥Fated Mates 🥰
❤️‍🔥Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book has a lot of world building and in understanding the Itheni realm as well as the surrounding realms and magical systems. Vasenia was looking forward to her upcoming betrothal that would have been her freedom from Eretamia and a merger that would link her to another powerful family but when her caravan is attacked by an enemy faction, Vasenia has nothing left to do but run.

Vasenia never imagined she would find safety in the hands of 3 Harrow Demon Warriors. Who are known as Barbarians and Savages. Marek, Gaeb, and Ryfin and their people, the half-fae Itheni, are known by many names but understood by few who live south of the magical border that protects their home, least of all by the Sadoran invaders.
Vasenia represents the enemy but when her fae lineage is revealed proving that she is a descendant of women lost due to a 1,000 year old curse; she is seen as less an enemy and more of a potential mate. Now Vasenia, Marek, Gaeb and Ryfin join together in an ancient bond; they have no choice but to work together as a team and eventually come together as mates. Vasenia's dormant Fae lineage is the key to their survival but there is discord amongst the lovers.

As Vasenia prepares for her Ascension and embracing her Fae abilities she is faced with betrayal and abandonment from her newly claimed mates.

Angst, Political Intrigue, War, Violence, Creatures of the night, Fated Mates and Enemies to Lovers makes this story a definite page turner.

If you’re looking for a hot-and-heavy MMF(M)/why choose with expansive world building and an interesting FMC - you’re in for a treat! Vasenia is one of the most powerful and coveted woman in Sadoran, daughter of a ruthless general and no stranger to political machinations. But can she out-machinate 3 outrageously sexy warriors from the mystical north (who have bound her to a very sex-positive goddess? 😳🤫).

I thought Vasenia was a good protagonist - very confident in some respects, naive in others. There was a lot of interesting worldbuilding alluded to, though I felt it got trampled a bit to make way for repeated sexytimes (I think more plot and less spice would have made the spice more compelling, it did get a little repetitive). Her chemistry with two of the warriors was great, but the “main interest”/fated mate Marek was a bit flat since he was so emotionally disengaged. Instead of a slow burn or angsty pull between him and Vasenia it just felt…empty.

Otherwise, I’m intrigued enough to read more and find out the secrets of this Celtic/Roman sequel world. I received an advance copy for free, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Blade & Thistle is the first book in a new "romantasy" series by Jacinda Hale. This is a MMMF Romance with tons of spice. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book! We start by meeting privileged Vasenia who you know right off the bat is going to be a strong FMC. After getting to know her, she is separated from everything and everyone she knows and is found almost literally, in the arms of the enemy (or so she thinks). The real meat of the story begins here. Marek, Gaeb, Ryfin, and Vasenia are all connected in ways none of them thought possible.

The world building in this was really good. It did take me a solid amount of time to get the hang of the language and how exactly the Itheni community worked. I did find myself going back a couple times just to reread and make sure I was understanding. I will say that this book is mostly world building and character development. The magical aspect does take a backburner, but rightfully so. I believe the next book (or books) will be more action/magic heavy as Vasenia learns to control her power after The Returning.

I think this might be one of the spiciest books I have read. Chapters and chapters of it. Normally this wouldn't be my favorite thing, but it was so well written! The spicy chapters might have been my favorite part of the book. Gay spice, straight spice, in-between spice. This book really had all the spice.

This book is a great first step into a new and exciting series. I will definitely be picking up the next novel when it releases.

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy:
More than one sexual partner

I liked this quite a lot, but I didn’t love it. I think I might have loved what it could have been if it wasn’t Porn With Plot. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Porn With Plot. I read a lot of it. I picked this up knowing that’s what it is. But in this case, Blade & Thistle has quite an interesting world and mythology sketched out, and by the end, when I had honestly gotten bored with all the sex, I found myself disappointed not to get more of it.

And really, that same sort of complaint paints several aspects of the book for me. I liked the characters a lot (most of them, anyhow). But all we really know of most of them is their caricature and what they are like in bed. I liked that Vasenia is self-sufficient and scheming. But eventually, it started to feel redundant all the times she reminded herself she was only doing what she was doing for the intel.

This is the first book of a series, so there’s a chance that some of the development I wanted will come in time. But the lack here did leave me wanting.

Now I want to have a little semantic rant. Let’s talk words. The writing here is lovely. I enjoyed it. But I want to complain about the word cunt. And before you imagine I’m clutching my pearls, let me assure you that’s not my complaint. I’ll admit it’s not my favorite, but it has its place in erotica. However, it is usually used in gritty scenarios to confer a certain admirable filth to a sex scene. But here, the Itheni consider sex and orgasm sacred acts of joining their goddess. So, the edginess of cunt felt horridly out of place in context. If it had been once or twice, I wouldn’t give a paragraph of a review to it, but it was frequent and pulled me out of every scene.

All in all, despite these complaints, I liked almost everything else about the book. I liked the openness of the Itheni. I liked the world. I’m invested in what happens next. So, I’ll be on the lookout for the next book.

This book has great world building, diverse characters and unique magical creatures and qualities- it took me a little bit to keep everything straight but for me that’s a sign of a good fantasy book!

Vasenia and her character arc are fantastic- she’s strong, courageous, and troubled, seeing her work through some of her issues and knowing how much she’s going to have to progress in this series is humbling and I am anxiously awaiting walking alongside her! I love when the FMC has an awakening and growth, and I see that coming for her!

The men- 🔥🍆😫🫠 (do you need more than this?) Each one is different, we have the broody, the bully and the softie and they all come together (no pun intended) to make the hottest and protective why choose group! They also have issues they’re working through and I love the comraderie between them.

What to expect:

Lots of world building with complex magic
Warring kingdoms with different races of people and creatures
LGBTQ+ themes
Coming into power
🌶️🌶️🌶️
Strong, alpha males
Courageous FMC

I definitely recommend reading this book! I adored it and I seriously can’t wait for the next. Will warn that it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger!

Thank you Jacinda for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I didn't want to put this book down once I started it...the characters, the conflict, the world building, just everything made me want to keep reading and see what happened next.

This is a fantasy, reverse harem (with sword crossing) that starts as serious enemies to lovers. Vasenia is the daughter of the Commander for an invading army. At the very beginning you know she's going to be a bada$$ as she utilizes the skills she shouldn't have as a lady to escape a sneak attack and prevent herself from being kidnapped, gaining some last minute help from 3 Itheni, who to her have been previously portrayed as "demons" and are preventing her country from winning the island/country.

And it just gets better from there, I love how unique all 3 men are while still having characteristics that show they work so well together as team. I cannot wait to see them go from enemies of Vasenia to something more in the next book.

Also 100% claim Ryfin as my book boyfriend, I always have a soft spot for the dark and damaged ones.

This book was so good that it had me rushing through my daily tasks just to be able to get back to reading it! The dilemma of wishing I could be the leading lady being held captive by these ‘savages’ instead of having a day job. I have been so invested in this story to see where these characters will end up that I’m in a bit of a book hangover. And the steam! I normally can read this genre in public without issue but there were a few scenes that I was glad to not be around people. I may have read those scenes a few times, for educational purposes, of course. Every time I think I’ve decided who my favorite character is, I learn more about the other characters and have to reconsider. So maybe, why choose? They can all be my favorite.

"Her father’s army came to conquer their homeland, but the barbarians of the Harrows will be the ones to conquer her."

Vasenia is travelling with her Betrothed for their wedding when her convoy is attacked and slaughtered. Vasenia manages to escape the brutal attack and is rescue by three ruthless barbarians, one of which is her fated-mate.

Blade and Thistle is a really enjoyable MMMF why choose romantacy and I had a lot of fun reading it. The world building and mythology is really interesting and there is a lot of spice and graphic scenes.

Personally I found it to be too much smut and not enough plot, but if that is your thing this book is for you. I think there is a lot of potential for more plot in book two and I am keen to see where the story goes.

Absolutely a great read!!! This is a MMMF/RH romance and let me tell you this is one spicy read. I absolutely loved the story, plot, the magic system and the characters. Don’t get me wrong there were times the spice could have been a little less since it was repetitive but what’s a RH is, lots of smut and plot.
But anyways as for the story, Vasenia was a great FMC. I liked the fact that she had a feisty side stood her ground. Each of the guys had their attributes that worked but it felt flat with the leader of the group, as opposed to the other two in the harem.

I absolutely adored this why choose, fantasy romance! The world-building is well done, the Harrows are seductive, and politics and plot intertwine with magic, intrigue, and TONS of spice.

Gaeb is a charmer, Ryfin is rough around the edges, and Marek is the reserved leader. Vasenia is smart and cunning, a fighter with secret desires and a soft heart that she strives to keep hidden. I loved seeing the four of them interact, with distinct dynamics in each grouping.

With three delicious heroes, one strong and determined heroine, a page-turning story, and smoking-hot scenes, you'll want to pick this up.

Can't wait for book 2!

First, I want to give a shout out to the author for providing content warnings so that readers can decide if this book is right for them. It certainly is unlike any book I've read before. For me, it was an immersive escape into a well-drawn fantasy world with strong, distinctive characters, plus a fast-paced plot with lots of adult content. And bonus--there was even an unexpected dragon appearance, meaning I can officially place this book in my 2024 Reading Challenge Category: A book with a dragon.

I ADORE fantasy romance for several reasons, and this book checks all the boxes. Fantastic worldbuilding, memorable characters. The story is engaging and I absolutely adore Vasenia as a FMC. Her wit and intelligence coupled with her passion and drive make her extremely memorable, and it compliments each of her men so well. I have a soft spot for Ryfin but all three of them are phenomenal in their own way. This will definitely be a re-read and I cannot wait for book two to see what happens next! A very well done first novel and I look forward to more from this author!

Holy goddess, this book is HOT. And every other damn thing I love--hauntingly gorgeous setting, fantastical lore, superb writing, and did I mention hot as hell sex scenes? Think of Scotland in the time of the Roman invasion, with an ancient race of people imbued with magic, then add a feisty, stubborn heroine wreaking havoc in the lives of three incredibly sexy warriors. I FUCKING LOVED IT. And I'm ready for the next book.

First off I began following this story when it was in kindle Vella and I have no idea why I didn’t finish because this is …

-a phenomenal debut book from a new author I will for sure be following
-🥵 hot…Hot rh romance
-enemies to lovers
-inner Fae and secrets that are greatly protected from the enemy but the enemy finds her way into the fold
-touch her and ☠️ vibes
-a band of brothers camaraderie
-barbarian warriors

In a society and time where women are to be submissive and in the background it was great to see a powerful commander’s daughter holding her own behind the enemy’s line and thriving. I loved the banter especially between Vasenia and Yraine. Was brilliantly done! A woman may be seen as weak but these two prove to be powerhouses in their own right.

Plot moves fast and smoothly. Not all is as it seems when Vasenia is rescued by her enemy. Her perception of the uncultured barbarians may be all a lie of misunderstanding. But even they have their secrets and ploys to overthrow their society.

Lots of fun twists that leave you intrigued for book 2 and whether Vasenia will return to the 3 barbarian warriors who awoke something inside her.

A rh fantasy romance that ends in a somewhat cliffhanger. Magic, Fae creatures, fated/song mates, war, politics and two cultures coming together.

Multiple povs told in 1st person

Main characters in group-
Vasenia- daughter of general of Sadoran army, rare female datheni
Marek-group lead, commander of Aggeta army
Ryfin- former sadoran slave, datheni
Gaeb-former Mesra turned Aggeta

Steam- hot, rh with mm

Triggers-death with gore, battle and war

Vasenia is the daughter of General Caius Romaneu. Her mother abandoned her when she was a child. And her father never treated her as a child. More like another soldier in his army. When their caravan is attacked, she is mistaken as her servant. Marek hears her Fae song calling him. So, Marek follows it until they rescue her from her kidnappers. But they are also the enemy. Then they take her to the Harrows. And she learns more about the world. Not everything is as it seems. The Harrow demons are not Blood-suckers like rumors say. Will she see them as more than the fairy tales she has heard?

This was such a fantastic book! I couldn’t put this down. I was completely fascinated right from the beginning. Jacinda just pulls you into another world. It’s an ancient world filled with magic and exotic creatures. Also filled with very HOT scenes!! I cannot wait to see what happens next! I highly recommend this book!

I am a fan for sure. This is the first book I've read by this author and I am here for it. I love the drama, the steam and it being a fantasy book is a plus in this one. The world created is very different and the way it is explained is really good. The intrigue here is realy and I really was pleasantly surprised as yes I was expecting a book I liked but it brought me so much more that I am intrigued to see what's next.

Vasenia's father is a general and has arranged a political marriage for her. She's a very dutiful daughter and is happy to cooperate despite the mediocre sex she has with her betrothed. Then she gets kidnapped and needs to get banged by 3 dudes (who happen to be the enemy) in order to access a mysterious power. The embittered former slave dude was a real douche, but of course she has some kind of magical juju making her want to bang him anyways. *sigh* I really hate that trope.

I normally don't review spicier books, but for Blade & Thistle, I had to make an exception. The pace, the plot, the characters... all had me hooked and the spice elevated the flavor. Plus, the world is just lush. I loved learning about the history and cultures that Jacinda Hale built. Add to that a curse and sexy enemies? Sign me right up!

What an amazing start for this series!
Vasenia came off at first as a entitled brat. It took me a minute to enjoy her character.
I loved Gaeb! For a playboy type he's seriously sweet. Poor Ryfin, so conflicted. And Marek.....I wanted to smack him upside his head. Lol!
I am so curious as to what happens in book 2!
