Jerry Falwell and the Rise of the Religious Right uses the life of one of the most media-savvy ministers in U.S. history to chronicle the political mobilization of religious conservatives in the 1970s and early 1980s through more than two dozen primary documents focused on the Religious Right's emergence.
Interesting read, but I do think my familiarity with the topic did make me a touch uncomfortable with reading it under a non-partisan context (History class).
did i need to read this to learn how Christians became involved in propelling the conservative mobilization during the social revolutions of the 60s and 70s? yes. is this objectively a good source of primary documents? yes. am i still giving it two stars based on how reading every document just pissed me off, disregarding aforementioned objectivity? YES. 😂 the ONLY document i enjoyed reading was the pornographers eulogy. that shit was so enemies to lovers coded bye
Great book I read a few years ago that I read again this semester and it goes into evangelical dominance in politics. I would use this when talking about religion in politics if that ever came up.
