France is occupied by the Nazi’s and Klara and Grandmere are helping to run Allied soldiers across the border. When they are inspected by Nazi’s late one night, Klara doesn’t realize the danger, but Jack, a Nazi soldier with Allied sentiments does. The following day, he begs her to stop whatever she’s doing, and when she refuses, he offers to help in the only way he can, by marrying her. Their vows, meant to deceive the Nazi’s, enable them to continue their work. But as Klara and Jack play "house" who is really being deceived ?
A slow burn WW2 romance. At times I grew frustrated with the slow pace of the developing romance. I pushed through the middle part of the story and then the pace picked up. I wish more WW2 era romances would be written. There's so much drama to build a romance around.
One thing I really liked about Deceptive Vows is the last chapter and the epilogue. A nice ending to a wartime romance
Read the first chapter and had to give up. The typos and lack of proper formatting was driving me bonkers. Also, the dialogue didn't feel right and the story didn't have a good flow. I was very aware someone was trying to tell me a story, instead of having the story tell me itself.
