ARC Review!
This is the second book in the 'Cliff Haven' series, but can be read as a standalone, as was the case for me given this was my first book by Eve Blakely (but won't be my last!). The story is told in dual POV, providing a glimpse into the lives of both the main characters.
Alex and Kristin, both with troubled pasts, met at the age of sixteen, and found themselves drawn to each other instantly. Alex was always the carefree one, while Kristen, despite her tough exterior, struggled with trust issues. Despite having an on-and-off relationship over the years, they always knew they'd find their way back to each other.
When Kristen sees a sudden shift in Alex's behaviour, from wild and carefree to attentive and mature, she starts to envision the possibility of a future with him.
Her world is turned upside down when Alex abruptly leaves town, only to return six months later with a mysterious girl, offering no proper explanation. Kristen is furious and wants nothing to do with Alex. But she can't deny the lingering feelings she still holds for him, even though he is no longer the man she once knew.
As secrets from Alex's six-month absence start to emerge, it will definitely take readers through a whirlwind of emotions. The dual POV works wonders here as the reader is given a better understanding of their relationship and their time apart, and will leave you feeling their sadness and devastation at times, and their unwavering, undeniable love at other times. Their story will deeply touch your heart, and I can almost guarantee it will bring tears to your eyes.
