What do you do when you go through a bad breakup?
You travel to places you have always wanted to visit.
Alone.
In my case, I went to see the castle ruins once ruled by my hero—Vlad the Impaler. Yes, yes. The one everyone knows as Count Dracula.
To my historian's heart's delight, I discovered a pendant in the ruins. But to my dismay, it transported me to medieval times, at the beginning of Vlad the Impaler’s rule.
Now I have to find a way home while pretending to be mute and staying away from trouble.
Except, a ridiculously handsome knight discovered I wasn’t mute, and now my chances of returning home could be ruined forever.
Not only is he a scoundrel, a rascal, and a ruffian, but did I mention he was also ridiculously handsome?

The series is a retelling of the Dracula myth with Vlad the Impaler as a secondary character. Given its title, The Vampire Genesis Chronicles, expect the vampires a bit later in the series. It is bound to get scrumptiously bitey.

-I have two primary big issues
-Plot and writing?
-The main character describes every millennial outfit she wears

1) Describing your character's outfits before she head out of her room (multiple times) is such a Wattpad 2012 thing to do. I don't know if the descriptions were the worst part, though, since the actual outfits involved the worst 2013-tumblr fever dream items you could imagine.

2) Coming across a new character and have them dump a bunch of information all together (still being strangers) and talking about their own motivations for a bit is... reserved for musicals. I do not want to see that in a... novel.

-Does this mean *those* were your issues? Was the plot interesting? The writing nice?
-Nope.

ok- I liked this a lot- I'm Romanian so I guess there's a little bias lol.

I also love the actual historical content as I'm a teacher too so I loveeee how the author really gets the info correct-

I like that instead of the love interest being Vlad himself (which wouldn't make sense historically) its the hero.. so thats cool.

I feel like her sister has something to do with something...
I feel like the necklace just being in that over thing is so random...
I have a lot of thoughts and feelings on what may occur....

On to book 2!

First let me say I tend to devour books with any mention of Dracula, or Vampires, or well anything in that genre, what can I say I love a good paranormal story that has at least one foot in the door of reality.

Bitten in Time has a premise I hadn't read before, imagine, being in a foreign country, taking the trip of your dreams, and experiencing the world your hero lived in just a few hundred years apart, now here's the interesting part, what if you have a book, with say incantations, and then you find a pendant, and then a stone, and well then you find yourself in the 15th century.

That is just where Petra finds herself, I can't even begin to imagine going from life in the modern world to that but somehow she does it.

I loved the premise of this book, the story, the time travel, and the integration of fact with fiction, past and present, there was so much I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into (pun intended).

There were also moments where the wording just felt off, and for me having the spell reading casts broken is problematic.

Lastly let me just mention that cover art, is hauntingly beautiful, I try not to judge a book by its cover but this one does call to me.

All of that being said, this book is a 3.5 star for me but I'll be rounding up to 4.0 for review purposes.

I wanted to love it, the story is there, and it's original and well thought out it's just missing something, but maybe these things are intentional and will be addressed in the second book. If so I'll update my review at that point.

I will be reading the second book in the series and am curious about when and where everyone will end up.

I want to thank the author Lara Bronson for providing a copy of this e-book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

What can I tell you about this book? When I first heard about it from a friend, I was very intrigued. Vlad the impaler, time travel, romance. But it was so much more. While reading this book, the authors intelligence over vlad the imaplers' history woven into a story so good you can't help but be enthralled. It is a slow burn romance. Full of history and excitement. Lara really done her research to bring you a story that feels like it's right out of the history books! Knights, magic, and more! I'm so glad to have gotten to read this book!!

2.5⭐️1🌶️

Two words: no vampires. I know the author mentioned the vampires will arrive later in the series but in this book there is no indication as to how vampires would make sense to appear in this story. Meaning I feel if the main characters become vampires or if a vampire character is introduced, it would feel so random and awkward. The title is even “BITTEN by Time.” There was no biting involved in this book.

This story is about a girl accidentally time traveling back in time, to the exact time and place her idol Vlad the impaler was ruling, and tries her best to fit in and survive. She uses history to her advantage to create a fake persona for herself. There are mentions here and there of “vampires” but just similar to how people are scared of the boogeyman that doesn’t exist. She makes some effort to go back to her time but suddenly realizes in an out of character way that she would rather marry a man she wasn’t sure about 1 second earlier instead of trying to go back to her time. And said guy just innocently accepts she’s from the future. But you know ~true love~ and all that I guess. There are some out of character plot holes, like she says a magic incantation that times travels her but then later says she doesn’t believe in magic “mumbo jumbo.” Like girl be for real, how did you get there then if magic doesn’t exist?? The ending has the worst cliffhanger I’ve ever seen. Not even a cliffhanger - more like didn’t even finish a sentence and you’re left confused.

Anyway, whoever keeps reading for hopes of vampires that make sense in this story, I salute you 🫡

2024 is for DNFing books but Goodreads shut down when I tried to review the book yesterday, so I simply finished it.

This book suffered from many problems.

1. Writing Quality - there are at least 15 spots in the book where it’s clear the author meant to use a different word than she did, and one where she invented a new word completely. In one spot we skip to the next paragraph in the middle of a sentence. There were many spots I had to read over 4 times because subject-verb disagreement left me confused about what was happening. There were irregularities with style - sometimes italicizing in quotes the MC’s thoughts, other times just quoting.
2. Pacing - the book drags through some spots for 50+ pages and then skips forward for months, and occasionally years? Also we never actually hit the end of the plot arc when the book ended? I checked the authors social media to see what was happening there and it looks like this was part of the plan to stretch it into a 4 book series.
3. Characterization - characters were not particularly believable, often stating their motives when walking into a room. The author struggled a bit between showing and telling with the characters. Possibly an effect of pacing, but it felt like we were simply told who we should like and dislike, and we would suddenly develop deep attachments to characters who we have had maybe 2 conversations with.

My main advice for the author would be to get an editor who does not care about your feelings at all.

I really enjoyed this time travel romance! I liked Petra. The book is in first person, but she was not a whiney or annoying FMC as some first-person books can make them.

This book did move extremely rapidly. The story flew by, and I am not sure if I just devoured it that quickly or it just moved swiftly.

Petra is from the modern world and visits Romania and Transylvania after getting out of a bad relationship. She accidentally ends up traveling 500 years into the past to the castle of Vlad the Impaler. She meets so many people, creating a found family in the past, and ends up meeting the very charming Gabriel.

The relationship with Gabriel is almost an instant love. I enjoyed the tension of their first outing, but there was definitely something there, and they did not fight it. I also really enjoyed the snippet of spice 😍 thank you for not being fade to black!!!

I am looking forward to reading the next book and the remainder of the series!!

I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

I had high hopes for this book when reading the description. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to those expectations. I was told this book would be a historical romance, which it definitely was. However, I was under the impression of the main character having more interactions with Ivan the Impaler and that was not the case. That was not the reasoning for my rating though. I was excited for the relationship blossoming between the main character and the love interest but it seemed to fall short. Their interactions felt awkward and childish to me. I also think that there’s not enough going on to keep interest until the ending of the book. I absolutely loved the history and culture brought in to this story though, which was a huge redeeming quality!
I’m really hoping to see more of the Romanian culture and supernatural elements within the rest of the series.

Well that was a rollercoaster!
A well written, enchanting story of travelling back in time. You have mystery, danger and romance, weaved into a tale with Vlad the Impaler, the seducer of unmarried women and other great characters depicting the era brilliantly. Loved the main characters. Didn’t love the cliffhanger, shame on you 😂😂.

This was my first time travel book. I was not sure what to expect but very excited. I struggled a bit in the beginning it took me a bit to get into the story. I don’t feel that was on the author. I totally enjoyed Petra and her entire character. It's nice when someone owns their sh!t. I loved the dynamic between the MCs. Can't wait to continue this journey with the author.

I love a time travel trope so I was so excited to read this.. a little hesitant because I’m not all in on the vampire aspect.

HOWEVER, I ATE THIS UP. This girl goes from modern times back to the 15th century and handles it well (better than I would have😂) I feel like it was something I have never read before but it all really came together, the character development was quite well written. I already started book two so ready🤩

I do want to thank Lara for providing the ebook and all of the thoughts written above are completely my own.

This book is an excellent combination of history, mythology and fantasy. Just a few pages into the book and I found myself so immersed in it that I just couldnt put it down.

Bitten by time Time, The Vampire Genesis Chronicles Book 1) by the author Lara Bronson is a story of a modern girl going thru the after effects of a bad relationship and pursues a journey to take back her self-control only to end up with the ideal love she had always searched for. However, the twist is that this perfect love exists in a completely different period. He was medieval and our protagonist, Petra, time travels to experience the life of medieval people, starting from maid to princess and then married to the most perfect person.

The name Dracula, which is associated with vampires, was for centuries known as the pseudonym of Vlad III, commonly known as Vlad the Impaler, considered as the most important ruler of Wallachian history, modern day Romania.

This is a unique fiction of time travel combined with history and a delightful love story too!

If you are a fan of historical fiction with exciting elements of magic and mystery, Bitten by Time will be your go to choice. Looking forward to reading the 2nd part of this series as much as our protagonist is anxious to reverse time travel!

I had received ARC of this book and posting my honest review for it.

"Our greatest fears are often dispelled by a touch of reality." - Petra

Bitten by Time by Lara Bronson offers a delicious twist on the time-travel and fantasy romance genres. The story is largely set in Wallachia (a historical and geographical region of Romania) in the mid-1400s and follows the adventures of a modern-day traveler who stumbles upon a pendant with the power to transport her back to the medieval era of Vlad the Impaler. With fantastic world-building, star-crossed lovers (albeit, with a bit of an abrupt romance), this Dracula myth retelling is an entertaining read. While the prose can occasionally be awkward, the pacing is just right. As part of The Vampire Genesis Chronicles series, this book promises more vampiric intrigue in future installments, making it a promising start to an inventive series!

Content warnings include mature content, SA, stalking, and violence.

Unique. Magical. Slow Burn.
I really enjoyed reading this uniquely interesting, slow burn romance, that interweaves history with a beautifully magical plot.
I felt there was a good balance between plot and the growing burn between the main characters.
The end does leave you with a cliffhanger, so I am eagerly waiting the arrival of the next books.

I agreed to review this series because of the Outlander and vampire-esque themes and I wasn't disappointed.

Petra is a University or Washington student who is running from an ex-boyfriend who attempted to assault her while they were together and has recently been stalking her. So she flees to Romania to explore her fathers homeland and the castle of her hero, Vlad the Impaler. As she is exploring she finds relics and once fitted together those relics transport her through time. Thinking she is in a very elaborate cosplay session she decides not speaking is her best option. After several months her life is at stake so she uses her knowledge and finally speaks in order to save her own life. Seeing that she won't be going home anytime soon she falls in love and marries a knight, again to save her life. But once again things are going crazy and she could die if she doesn't find a way home and soon.

This story started off really slowly and I honestly almost gave up on it but thank god I didn't. About half way through the pace and flow picked up immensely and I just devoured the rest. I loved the characters, especially Gabriel, Petra and Mama Nica, and loved watching them grow. The plot was one of interest for me. Honestly, I can't wait to find out what happens next for this crew of characters. Yes, it is a series and it does have to be read in order. This one left me hanging on a cliff and I need to know more.

Thank you stuff your kindle day for giving me this book for free because I would’ve never read it otherwise. And I never will again. Idk if it’s just me but I thought this was advertised as a vampire book but there was only two vampire sightings. As well as the weird pace of this book it was just not for me. Nomalize DNFing books in 2024!!

I really wish i could say i enjoyed this book., i really wanted to enjoy this book. Unfortunately for a book that has less than 300 pages, it actually started to drag for me. It certainty isnt one of the worst books ive ever read but it just felt so lackluster and one dimensional. The premise is so interesting and has so much potential but the pacing issues and insta-love with no chemistry was too obvious to overlook. I'd probably describe my experience as disappointing more than anything, which is such a shame because again, there were so many opportunities for this to be such an interesting story.

So much potential in the beginning it had a good flow and the character was believable a bit interesting. But we quickly devolved, the ideas were there but thrown all about. Wanting to add everything made the pace quicken and the characters lost all their depth and meaning. I was very disappointed.

4⭐️ read for sure!!

I was lucky to be an ARC reader for this novel and to say I enjoyed it is an understatement!! This book follows Petra who accidentally goes back in time to a Romanian castle and works as a maid until she proved herself to be a Hungarian princess, except she’s not… In this novel by Lara, Petra feels almost every emotion in the book and these emotions are explained so so so well.

“Bitten by time” is a historical romance with Gabriel as the main love interest and he, too, was really well written. This novel is not long at all and is a very easy read (would be great for reading slumps).

All in all, great book, great characters and a fantastic read!!

This book was very different from anything I’ve read before. This was well written and I loved how Petra came to be in this country of her heritage. So much happened to Petra. But my favorite part was when she met Gabriel. I loved mama nica. I am looking forward to reading the next book to see what happens next
