The Apostles' Creed: Its Relation to Primitive Christianity

Rate this book
First published in 1899, this revised version of an 1894 original was based upon a short course of lectures given by the author in the Divinity School at Cambridge during the Lent Term of that year. It provides a concise discussion of the controversy existing at the time in relation to the Apostles' Creed, a controversy which had been given further impetus through the sceptical position held by prominent German theologian Adolf von Harnack. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in theology and the religious debates of the late nineteenth century.

Excellent overview of the primitive background on the Creed. Lots of Greek and Latin, and the appendix has historic examples of baptismal creeds in their original languages. If you would like a quick overview of the doctors debates that led to the Creed, this is a fantastic option.
