This literature was incorporated into the syllabus at Sumner Elementary School in Topeka, KS when I attended 1st thru 5th grade 1975-1980. I have to tell you, the impact it made on me, my ability to recognize self worth, my ability to value others and to be empathetic, understanding, and socially functional (in spite of the raging disfunction in our family, lol). Granted, I only knew the story as it was read at the time. But throughout my life, warm fuzzies & cold pricklys would pop into my head, helping me choose my words, gauge my response to others, and so forth.
It wont work by its self of course, however, the benefits of the contents of the T.A. for Tots series are priceless and revelational. If I were asked to rate the books on a scale if one star to five stars, trust and believe, I would have to give it ten stars!!

I grew up with this book and read it literally to pieces as a kid. It's almost 50 years old now (as am I), so it's got some assumptions hardwired into it that don't stand the tests of time or reality (for example, not every kid has a mom and dad). But as a product of its time - the navel-gazing 70s - T.A. for Tots was a force for good. I learned more about self-worth, impact and intent, and emotional intelligence from Freed's screed than just about anywhere else. I still think about Warm Fuzzies and Cold Pricklies, and the word Prinz was my first exposure to the idea of alternatives to gendered language. Five stars with an asterisk - best read while keeping its historical context in mind.

All about feelings like anger and being afraid and about making other people feel good and not bad (warm fuzzies and cold pricklies). It's also about feeling OK, how important they are, and how they should talk about their feelings with Mom and Dad.

This book has not aged well. It’s appalling to look back and find something that advocates spanking. Their idea isn’t it they could work well, but it needs a total rewrite.

Early exposure to the idea that we can all choose how to interact with each other, and that our actions affect others. And to be aware of how others' interactions with us affect us. Warm fuzzies and blue meanies, etc.. Glad I was exposed to it! Such a 70's thing..
