A book for the intermediate gardener is organized by month, caters to gardeners who have learned basic gardening skills, provides solutions to a wide range of gardening obstacles, and offers more sophisticated plant selection, design, and garden elements.
This book is intended for notice gardeners who, in the author's words, "have learned the basics and are ready to travel further down the garden path." It takes a seasonal approach -- starting in January with an assessment of an old or new garden site -- and progressing month by month with both suggestions for each season's garden tasks and many ideas for felicitous plantings to create a good balance of color, form, and texture through the year.
The photos in this book, done by the author's husband, are just stunning. This places the book in my "inspirational gardening" category, but it also does such a solid job explaining garden fundamentals that it comes near an ideal for a gardening book.
