Ray Simpson is Founding Guardian of the international Community of Aidan and Hilda and the author of forty books on Celtic spirituality and other subjects.
Before that he was invited to plant a Fresh Expression at Bowthorpe, Norwich: 'One Family of Christians for one New Neighbourhood' sponsored by six denominations. He has linked early Celtic monastic villages with villages of God inspired by emerging new monastic churches.
He owns a house on UK's Holy Island of Lindisfarne, where the Community of Aidan and Hilda has its Retreat House, The Open Gate and Celtic Library, but is mainly based on the nearby mainland at Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
His big project is to make 'The Way' accessible to all peoples through daily emails (enrol on www.waymarksoflife.com) and a year's app is being crowd funded.
A lovely collection of prayers for just about any life event--hated to come to the end, but will certainly find this text useful for visitation, and for moments when something really specific is needed to comfort a person in their loss or in their celebration. This book has been a helpful addition to the Lectionary readings since New Years Day---- From the Publishers:Ray Simpson draws deeply from the rich Celtic tradition to compile a collection of blessings that celebrate God's truth in our day-to-day lives.
I was inspired to check this out after reading The Celtic Way of Evangelism. I really like the concept of speaking to God throughout the day, especially in the mundane. Some of the prayers were very poignant and praised God in creative ways. Unfortunately, in more than a few instances the prayers began feeling a bit woo-woo and a touch heretical. All in all, interesting reading, but as with all things, discernment is required.
This is a wonderful little collection of Celtic prayers that are easy to embrace and integrate into your life at any stage. They capture the essential moments of life as well as the more trivial, inviting God into each of our experiences. They are also useful for people who are called upon in public settings to speak and offers words of prayer.
This book is a nice book for those looking for religous/spiritual prayers/affirmations from the Celtic tradition. The prayers/affirmations are organized by rights of passages, daily experiences, and life events.
This is a lovely coffee table or nice book to set on the end table but anyone who wishes to do more than skim over the surface of Celtic Christianity should make a point of getting their hands on Ray Simpson's Celtic Worship Through the Year.
A great little book for, well, everyday life! Great Celtic blessings. One of the greatest gifs to those on a spiritual path. I keep it with me at all times. Highly recommended.
