When I was young, I looked through this book over and over again. Created by a photographer in the community of Orinda, California who, over many years, took photographs of his own children (2 daughters and 2 sons) and other children in the community. It's a record of children growing and changing in various settings, and most of the photos are candid vs. posed. I really feel lucky to own this book. 1950s suburban sensibilities, but terrific children & family photographs.
I enjoyed this photographic memoir of children. It was among my mother's books. The children in the book are my contemporaries. It was a walk down memory lane for me as the activities and styles were a replay of my childhood. I enjoyed even though it was very dated and totally understood why this book was in my mother's collection of books. It was fun for me.
A book given to me by a neighbor after he found out I adored The Family of Man as a child. This 1958 photographic essay focuses of children (in fact, some are the author's own.) The photographs and thoughts in the essays all are from 3 years in the 1950's, including the first years of my life. I grew up in that world. though on the other coast from the children in the pictures. And while just a toddler, I do have memories of my parents and older siblings in those days. plus a lot of that world carried on and colored my early schoolgirl days. A little bit eerie, a lot nostalgic, it was a fun exploration for me.
