I was lucky enough to find this book in a library in a beautiful 1935 edition (the book was first published in 1934), signed by the author. I had never read anything by Hilda Vaughan, but I knew her as the wife of Charles Morgan, whose many books I have read and enjoyed.
The story is a love story from other times, very delicate and pleasant. The theme is found in other works: a great love returns, after having been believed lost, but in the meantime a stable bond has been created. The possible endings of these situations are many, the one told here is one of them, which the author manages to make true and heartfelt.
