I thought this will be another erotica one, as we have a lot of them recently. Well color me surprised, it was a really good one!

33 year old, sexy, arrogant, moody and self-confident Senator Graham Delaney sets his eyes on Eleaonor Courtney. She is other Senator's daughter, young, beautiful, well raised, well put together, almost perfect... with her sweater dress, pearls and stick in her ass - Senator's words, not mine;)

Due to family issues, Elle's parents cut her off and she needs to find a way to pay for her last semester of college. That's when Senator comes in to join the game. He manipulates her to accept an offer of spending this semester with him in exchange for tuition money.

"I want to spend your last semester getting you out of those fucking pearls and on all fours."

I just loved Senator. He talks dirty, has no inhibitions and is a douche. He wants to posses Elle and to have his kinky ways with her. You'd think that's the only thing he wants, but no, he seems to have some unfinished business with Elle's father and is probably using her for revenge. And I just can't wait to see him falling for her instead, screwing up and then grovelling. Ah, yes, that would be ideal. Let's wait and see what surprises dear Senator will have for us.



This installment ends with a cliffhanger, I am intrigued, will be definitely reading the next one. Recommended for all erotica serial lovers!

Eleanor Courtney is near enough perfect. Well put together, well read and well versed in the pressures of having a father in the Senate. Her parents are more concerned with their image and public perception and as a result of a family dispute and her not falling in line, her father sees fit to cut her off financially, leaving her no way of paying tuition for her last semester of college.

Graham Delaney is a member of the same party as her father and for reasons currently unbeknown, her predicament gives him the perfect opportunity to seek revenge against her father. Elle is merely a means to an end, his unsuspecting pawn. He makes her an offer that's hard to refuse and after much contemplation and provocation from him, she accepts.



Politely feral, unashamedly blunt; Graham Delaney knows how to push her buttons. He has a filthy, filthy mouth and the means to back it up. Even so he can't help but acknowledge she affects him too.

“You’re going to be a greedy one, and I wonder if this—” I slide my hand between her thighs, rubbing my fingers over the slick reward her aggravating tights are obstructing. She sucks in a ragged breath. When I trace the column of her throat again, this time with my tongue, she exhales and swallows hard. “—will be just as selfish.”

I completely taken this story so far. I like that Graham is a bit of a grouch, it brings some humour to the proceedings. Although Elle is somewhat quiet and well put together, I don't get the doormat vibe from her at all, further confirmed by the confrontation at the end. Politics may not be my strong point but I'd happily vote for "Senator Sexy-Ass"

#1 // The whole concept of becoming someone's sex toy for money is disgusting, really. I think there's nothing sexy about that. Even if the man is a sex god, it's unacceptable.

#2 // The almost fade-to-black sex. I mean, Graham kept talking dirty, but then fell flat when it came to actually DOING the dirty. His dirty-talk was, indeed, sexy as hell though, I have to admit.

I always feel a little rush, when I read something by an author new to myself, and know that I am going to be enjoying their writing for many years to come; something clicks – whether it is the writing style, storyline or the characters you just instinctively know, and that is definitely the case for me with Maya St. James.

”I’ll pass but give my regards to your pussy.”

Pawn is the first novella of three charting the budding relationship between Senator Graham Delaney and Elle Courtney, and from what begins with Elle thinking her meeting ’Senator Sexy-Ass’ as a coincidence, actually turns out to have had a little more planning and motivation behind it on Grahams part, the full details of why are not yet known.



Graham has an attitude and a dirty mouth, put that against Elle and her take-no-shit personality and you have quite a few memorable conversations and sexy interludes to sink your teeth into! But there is a vulnerability about the both of them as well, and I hope that Maya explores this more as the series progresses.



There is huge potential running though the pages of this first novella, and I am extremely interested in seeing where the author takes us with this couple. It does as you would expect end on a cliffy, but we do not have to wait months for the following two installments (Feb 14th & 27th) which if I am honest was my main motivation for reading it in its serialized version.

Given any genre, any kind of book, the best part about reading still remains the unexpected surprise of utter enjoyment a story gives you, especially when expecting the worst or expecting the mediocre. Maya St. James’ Pawn - Volume 1 is just that and so much more – a pleasant surprise wrapped in all kinds of wanton sensuality.

While can’t be described as cute or endearing, Pawn has a certain dark, seductive charm to its tale, whether its through the deliciously, erotic words that singe every part of the skin with goosebumps and send snaking shivers down the spine or the equally carnal hero, whom leaves in his wake countless midnight fantasies and multiple trips to cold showers. The fast-pace, dual POV plot although revolves around a bawdy, cloak-and-dagger relationship, the crux of it involves the duplicitous motives, both political and sexual, of Senator Graham Delaney. This story is a highly entertaining quick read that possesses the right kind of edge to keep it from being fluffy or cheesy, proceeding to serve up just the right combination of sinful seduction, sizzling sexual tension, emotional turmoil, suspense, secrets and a memorable hero.



Senator Graham Delaney is a self-confident, presumptuous, sexy, dirty-mouthed SOB, and I can’t get enough of him. He knows exactly what he wants, and what he wants, he gets. There is no right and wrong with this man, he is an entity on his own. From his calculated enticement of Elle to his every obscene word spoken to his overall personality, he is just as much sophisticated as he is lustfully shameless. A walking enigmatic contradiction, if ever there was such a character, it is Graham Delaney. And I love him all the more for it.

Eleanor Courtney, upcoming journalist and daughter of a politician, is the apotheosis of proper, demure and innocence. Cut off by her father and with no means to pay tuition, she eventually has no resistance against the Senator’s enticing proposition of a sordid affair in exchange for a fully paid tuition. While her refusal to sleep with Graham is appreciative at first, essentially we get a character which pales miserably in comparison to Graham’s. Her character brings more of a “background noise” vibe than an unforgettable affection, with very little room (and page time) for plausible character growth, and adapting on readers. Hopefully, her character brings about enough pragmatic development in the next two installments to achieve instant like and regard from readers.

With humorous dialogue and bantering galore, a scorching romance filled with smexy lovin’ and emotional angst, and a cruel ending (yes you cliffhanger!), there isn’t much I didn’t like about this book. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed Pawn. A definitely recommended read for all those who love naughty in their contemporary fiction. This is the first of St. James’ books that I’ve read, and it certainly will not be the last one I devour. Now, I cannot wait to pick up Part 2 and rid myself of the burning curiosity the ending in this one left. So much dirty fun!

Elle drew the line in the sand with her Senator father. That line has cost her the financial assistance with her tuition, but Elle isn’t backing down. But the key to getting her education bills covered shifts from the waitressing job to being at the beck and call of Senator Graham Delaney. Not only a US Senator, but her father’s colleague. But you soon realize that although Graham and Senator Courtney may share party lines, they are not on the same side. Graham has every intention of using Elle’s need for cash to his advantage. But what starts off as a game that he’s supposed to be the in control of shifts when he can’t seem to stop thinking about her.

I luuuuuuve an asshole hero. Graham in the opening of this book. Pure asshole. I swooned. I was caught up instantly in the banter and the way he let down one needy waitress in a not so nice, but take a hint already, way. It was easy to get caught up in this story. It’s been a while that I’ve picked up a serial series and found myself at the end of the book and wondering just how I got there so fast, this story just took over and allowed me to get lost in it.

Maya St. James gives you little hints at the larger picture at play, but nothing that allows you to figure it all out. It was a perfect balance of keeping your attention and making you want a little more. And after finishing this, I want more. No doubt.

This was filled with sexual tension and steamy moments. I can’t wait to see the sparks fly with these two get more than just a few secluded moments alone together. But as much as I am dying for those scenes... Grahams gonna be in a world of trouble when his full plan comes to light. If you like a fast paced serial series, this is your book. There are other key things that some readers love like the older man/younger female dynamic and oh yeah, did I mention that he is one of those alpha-tell-you-what-to-do-males? Yeah. Swoon.

Eleanor "Elle" Sutton Courtney is the twenty-two year old daughter of Virginia Senator Courtney and presidential hopeful, who prides himself on family values and a very specific moral compass. Once Graham realizes who she is, he hatches a plan to get her to do what he wants, which he will use to destroy her father. The problem is that Graham will also be destroying a young girl who has noting to do with his issues with her father. This is pointed out to him by his former sister-in-law and current Chief of Staff, Vivienne Delany.

OMG - I loved this. There was nothing but heat and anticipation on every page. I want Elle to pick up her big girl breaches and do what she needs to do to proves she's not the pushover he thinks she is.

I like the authors voice. I love that the story moved from Graham's POV to Elle's and back. I think things are getting hotter and stronger. I am dying for the next installment..... HURRY!

4 'I want to possess you' Stars

Eleanor Courtney is the daughter of a D.C Senator, young, beautiful, and has the perfect image for a Senators daughter. Elle's parents cut her off, though, due to family issues and she now has to find a way to pay for her last semester of school. Starting a job at a D.C elite bar she catches the eye of Senator Graham Delaney.

Senator Delaney is a sexy bastard with a filthy mouth who wants to get back at Elle's father, and he just found the perfect pawn. Making her an offer that she just can't refuse, Graham plans to posses her - then break her.

I loved this first part of their story. Graham was that arrogant asshole that you can't help but love, especially when such filthy things come out of his mouth ;) I can't wait to see where their story goes and what happens in the next installments. This seemed a little slow to start, which is why I gave it 4 stars, but I'm hopeful for Volume 2.

What did I get myself into?

This was a really quick read and I was consumed.

I usually don't like jerks but behind that bluntness and arrogance I know lies an interesting man who has more depth than he leads on. Senator Graham Delaney, you do not fool me! What an interesting main character.

I loved this book. It was like a cat and mouse chase between Graham and Elle. Graham doesn't want to admit it, but he really likes Elle and I think is scared maybe to fall for her. Behind those straight forward sexual demands, I think lies a real fear of intimacy. And I know he wants to use Elle as a pawn in his scheme for revenge but I think this is gonna backfire on his ass, pardon my language. But the Senator is in for it. I don't think this will be a hit and quit it relationship he has built in his mind. I don't think he will be able to act detached for too long with Elle.

What I love is that both Graham and Elle can't help but be attracted to one another. And both are fighting their inner feelings acting like their agreement is all business and sex, but it is not. There is more there! And they both have personality.

That CLIFFHANGER was cruel. And I know book 3 hasn't come out and it's shrouded in mystery and I'm probably walking into another cliffhanger with book 2 but im gonna read it anyway and hope that the author has mercy on her readers and lets us know what is at the bottom of Senator Delaney. Not that Elle isn't complex too. But it's easier to grasp where she is at in life compared to the sexy and young senator.

This was a sexy book. A total guilty pleasure read and I want more!

My rating: 5/5 because this was fun! and the banter between the main characters (Elle and Graham) was awesome and kinda shocking but awesome!

Let me began by saying: I enjoyed this quick read. It was lip-biting, stomach-churning,Ohhh-laaa humorously good. I stayed up late reading because I just could not put it down. I advise anyone whom is a sucker for a well-fitted, dirty talking hero to give this one a try.

Now to my review:

When I think of a U.S Senator— slick-tongue Graham Delaney does not come to mind. He is unpredictable when it comes to speaking his mind. He may be seen as an honorable man to the citizens and his peers but there is nothing saint about this political man. He very easy on the words and always seem to get his way. Nothing will be different when he meets socially obedient Eleanor Courtney and makes a deal she just can't refuse. He will leave you in for a brew of surprises.

So I was a bit blown away with Pawn. For a serial book it had everything I really want in a book….the pace was good, the characters were very well developed, it captivated me and was full of just enough craziness that it kept me wanting…strike that….dying for more. Maya St. James might be a first time author, but she nailed this one and I am so looking forward to Pawn Volume 2 to see what Elle and our Sexy Ass Senator have in store for us.

I love a political romance….I have said it before and I will say it again….for ME, there is nothing sexier than a man in political power….and dear God does Graham Delaney fit that bill. He is crass and arrogant and sexy as all get out without making any apologies for his actions. Which makes me love him all the more…..I just hope he doesn’t lose that bravado over the course of the next two books. He is born from class, but has a filthy edge to him that will give you all kinds of shivers. Elle, our college student/heroine, might be a little green when it comes to the Senators sexual advances, but I love that she has a strong conviction in her beliefs. It is these beliefs that put her in the position to meet Graham Delaney…..and once they meet, hold on because the ride just beginning.

Maya St. James has done a phenomenal job not only building up this plot and the secrets that I am sure are soon to be revealed but giving us two amazing characters that we can help but crave to know more about. These two really have some great chemistry and I can’t wait to see what happens over the course of her next semester. You don’t have to love a political romance to really enjoy Pawn, but if you do, grab this one. Although it ends in a cliffhanger, the next installment is coming very soon so we don’t have to wait forever. Enjoy Graham getting Elle out of her pearls….I know I did!

Fantastic debut by Maya St. James!!! I instantly wanted to read this book after seeing the blurb and teasers for weeks. I knew going into this that there were going to be three books but I didn’t realize how bad I would be sucked in and how much I would need the next book ASAP!!! First this book is told from both Graham and Elle’s POVs so we know what both characters are thinking at all times. At first I couldn’t figure out why Elle’s father had decided to cut her off and left her in the situation she was in until it was revealed and I agreed 100% why Elle did what she did. Then there is Graham. How am I supposed to describe him? Let’s see he’s cocky, arrogant, rich, determined, smart mouthed, dirty minded, and downright just SEXY!!!!! When Elle lost her job at 202 I just had a feeling Graham had something to do with it but of course there was no way to prove it at the time. Somehow Graham weaseled his way into Elle’s life and she agreed to this arrangement with him. I hate giving away spoilers but I have so many questions that need answers. I sort of know how Graham became the way he did but I need to whole story. Is he going to hurt Elle? Will Elle be the one to bring Graham to his knees? Will these two ever get a HEA? These are just a few question that I have after finishing but one thing is for sure when you finish this book you will definitely want more. I can’t wait to see the other two stories unfold and try and guess how everything will turn out. I highly recommend reading this book…. Be prepared for Graham’s dirty mouth!

This was a really good start to a series that I am going to like. In this first book we meet Eleanor Courtney a 22 year college student who has to get a job to pay for her last semester at GWU, because her father a Senator cut her off for supporting her brother who is gay and it doesn't fir into is 1950's view. We also meet the young Senator Graham Delaney from New York he is young hot and comes from a wealthy family. These two meet or see each other when Eleanor interviews for a job at a bar that Graham is having a meet at, he knows who she is and although she doesn't know who he is she finds out quickly. I really like this book and although it was not a lot of sex scenes, but the few encounters were hot. With an agreement that he will pay her tuition if they can have a sexual relationship. Graham is hot and sexy and says it like it is and he has Eleanor in knots. This book was well written and this is my first time reading this author. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Short novella. The writing style is very good but content was, to me, uninteresting.

We have Elle, a powerful senator's daughter, who had daddy cut her off financially, do she has to find a way to pay for her last semester at GWU. She gets a job in a Hooters sounding place only to get fired a few days later.

Next, we had Graham, a rich, senator from NY who doesn't do relationships after being burned.

They see each other, both have love/list at first sight. Graham does have an ulterior motive though.

To say Elle is far from a heroine is easy, she has no redeeming quality so far. She accepts to be Julia Roberts in pretty woman for her tuition.

This is just my opinion. I bore of weak female leads and over the top alphas.

Meh. This book was a whole lot of cliché sh*t. Don't get me wrong...it was readable but it didn't have enough of a captivating storyline. The same old storyline...rich guy goes after girl to get back at a business partner. He has a whole plan of breaking her heart but ends up falling for in the process but sh*t goes wrong and he has to fight for he because he f*cked up. Yeah. No.
Thank God this was a short read.

4 Sexy Stars! This was a great start to a steamy short trilogy that will leave you panting for more. Both MC's are likable, it's always nice getting both POV's and you get that with this book. There is a lot of dirty talk and a little teasing that gives you a taste of what's to come and let me tell you, I can't wait for book two!!! The hero, Senator Graham Delany is one sexy dirty talking alpha. But he has a plan for revenge and unfortunately it includes his targets daughter.

The heroine, Elie Courtney is the daughter of a senator. After a falling out with her dad leaves her struggling to pay her tuition for her last semester in college, she's left looking for a job to make ends meet. She meets the sexy senator while waitressing and is instantly attracted to him, so after she loses her job he approaches her with an offer to pay her tuition and in return she will be his, she accepts due to the undeniable chemistry and her pride of not wanting to ask her father for help. Little does she know that she just made a deal with the devil.

I can't wait for more of this story!!! Thank you Maya St. James for setting the release dates for the following two books to be completed by the end of February 2015.

Wow...I am so happy that I was given this book by the author! What an amazing start to the series.
Graham Delaney. Famous Senator. Arrogant bastard. Manwhore. Yup, that about sums it up. Graham doesn't hide who he is, or what he is, right from the first page of this book. He wants power and he will do anything to get it.
There enters Eleanor Courtney, daughter to another Senator from the same party. Elle tries to make it on her own after her powerful father cuts her off. Encouraging her brother Zach to be who he is has cost her everything. Trying to get a job in order to pay for her student fees, she joins 202, a bar.
The Senator recognizes her immediately and he knows what he wants to do with the new waitress; use her to get back at her father. She will become his pawn and he will enjoy it. Luck smiles down at him when Elle's attraction for him lands her right in his arms.
Will lovely Elle realize what he's really after before it's too late?
Excellent writing, great characters,great flow and gradual build-up.

this was one hot read!! Graham is one dirty talking senator. I fell in love with him and his mouth from the start. He is such an alpha male. they didn't even have sex yet so i can just imagine what that will be like. holy hell.
Now as for Elle I love her too! standing up for what she believes and wanting to do this on her own.!! you go girl! love her!! What i really liked is that neither character came from a bad upbringing. so many times i read that one or the other can't love because of their past. this was a breath of fresh air, compared to the normal Cinderella stories. i can see it happen in real life especially to families in the spotlight like theirs. Maya I think you did a wonderful job and I cant wait to read more!!!

I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between Graham and Elle is HOT. I love a dirty-talking alpha, and Graham Delaney delivers. I like the different layers of the senator, and look forward to seeing more of the mystery of him. The other characters seem to be well written. I loved the brother/sister back and forth between Graham and Vivienne. Since this is a series, the book ended on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to continue this story.

I don't what is it about this book that makes mz friends on GR rave about how awesome it is because it just makes me angry that it exists.

He is not an alpha male, he is a psycho that needs to have absolutely everything under his control, by means of sex, while she doesn't have a brain and agrees to everything he orders her to do.

Is that a healthy relationship? No!

Do I want to read about it? No!

Excellent read! Story flowed well and has just the right amount of sex and mystery to leave you wanting more! Exited to see what's next.
