About the author

Gabrielle Craig Lord is an Australian writer who has been described as Australia's first lady of crime.

She survived being ‘razed’ by the nuns, acquired an education despite this, and after working in many different areas, sales, teaching, brick-cleaning, peach-picking and packing, and in the Public Service as an employment officer, started writing seriously aged 30.

Her first two manuscripts ended up composting the tomatoes at her market garden – another attempt to make a living – but the third one FORTRESS was picked up internationally and made into a feature film starring Rachel Ward. A later novel WHIPPING BOY was made into a telemovie starring Sigrid Thornton. The film rights money, coinciding with her daughter leaving school, allowed Gabrielle to resign and instead of getting up at 4.30am and writing for several hours before heading off for work, she could write full-time and lead a more ‘normal’ writer’s life – hanging around with scientists and detectives, badgering forensic anthropologists (she studied some Anatomy at Sydney university) and doing work experience with a busy private security business and of course, writing.

Research is everything, she says. ‘Out of my contacts with experts (who are always far too modest to describe themselves that way) I get not only the fine-tuning necessary for today’s savvy readers, but also wonderful incidents and images that enrich and enlarge my books.’

Gabrielle’s interests are very simple. ‘After a misspent youth, I don’t have many brain cells left so I enjoy walking, meditation, singing, gardening, chatting with close friends, being with my family and grandkids, feeding my goldfish and keeping up to date with bodywork and enlightened psychotherapy.’

Gabrielle has now written fourteen adult novels and a novel for young adults. Once the 12 books of Conspiracy 365 are completed, this tally will be a tad bigger! Following this mammoth endeavour she already has plans for another three adult novels and two more YAs.

Met de boekenclub Books Ever After lezen we elke maand een boek van deze serie. Zelf liep ik nog achter dus vandaar dat ik Juli nu pas heb uitgelezen.

Ik vond dit boek niet per se heel bijzonder, maar wel leuk om te lezen. Ik ben blij dat er eindelijk nóg meer vooruitgang zit in de zaak en ook het einde maakt alles heel erg spannend.

July may be a month where not a lot happens on TV, in the news or in sport but the same can’t be said for the seventh volume of Conspiracy 365.

One of the best instalments to date, July has terrific pacing and genuine plot progression. While the formula dictates an opener with Cal escaping from an inescapable situation on the first of each month (just after midnight) before finding himself slap bang in another one at the end of the month (just before midnight), what happens in between easily hooks interest.

This month’s disasters are much more diverse and seem to be taking events in a very different direction before the unexpected quickly occurs and the course changes again. Boges and Winter both continue to be fleshed out (not before time!) with the former starting to grow a backbone and become frustrated with some of Cal’s catastrophes, while Winter’s backstory is embellished and her integrity given a further prod.

Team Sligo and Team de la Force are both in positions they’ve never been in before, and the plot is altogether tighter and more interesting.

While the compulsory cliff-hanger was evident from outer space, it’s a real predicament that should be interesting to see resolved.

A great effort from Lord that makes Part 8 something to look forward to!

OMG!!!
This book was amazing. It is so gripping! I couldn't stop reading them.

This boy called Cal Ormond lost his father through some un-known diseasse. He takes over what his father was trying to discover which has run through the family. All the way through the series people are after cal and his friends Boges and Winter. Each time they find more out about the Ormand Singularity something bad happens.

You must read these books! :)

Eindelijk over de helft! Deel 7 al weer van deze 12-delige serie. Ook dit keer las ik weer keurig mee met Books Ever After.
Dit deel was weer iets interessanter als het vorige. We lijken weer wat verder te komen in de serie. Maakt me toch opnieuw nieuwsgierig naar het einde van deze serie! Nog even doorbijten dus.

This is a great book. I'm not going to give away the end. WARNING TO PEOPLE WHO WILL READ THIS BOOK: Don't read the end before bed. It's kind of disturbing!! Well, to me. These books are pretty easy to read. I read this one in one day.

I think "July" was better than "June" - not as many near deaths/"that's-unbelievable" moments!

Cal continues to waiver with is trust of Winter (honestly, I don't know what to think anymore! I want to trust her, but... Boges makes some compelling points!!), but now that he has all the Ormond pieces (Riddle, Angel, Jewel) he should be able to figure out what the Ormond Singularity is! (Except great-until Bartholemew told Cal to visit his sister, Millicent, because she knows where Piers Ormond's will is located, which holds some value information..?)

Lots of action in "July"!
- Cal gets saved from his jet-ski cop chase by a fishing boat, who hides him from the cops
- Cal get locked in a freezer and needs to break out before the cops show up
- Cal has to escape Sligo's men at the train station when trying to get to Redcliffe, where his great-aunt Millicent is located.
- Cal meets with his great-aunt but... [read it to find out]
- Cal has to escape Sligo's men when they hunt him down at the Manressa Convent.
**The part I found "unreal" in this book was when one of Sligo's men was FIRING GUNSHOTS AT CAL WHILE POLICE WERE PRESENT That was just plain dumb. FOLLOW Cal when he leaves the covenant! Why are you shooting at Cal with so many police around while you're stuck in a tower with nowhere to escape!?! #dumb
- Cal gets in touch with Pier's solicitor who informs him that a "female benefactor" would like to offer her assistance with Cal's journey/research...
--Turns out it's Oriana de la Force! How she got involved with the solicitor, I don't know.
(At this point I can't remember what Oriana's or Sligo's interest in the Ormond Singularity is anymore. Why do they care again?)

Anyway, Cal is dumb and decides to trust the "meet up" arranged by the solicitor/Oriana to obtain Pier's will as long as he shows up with the Riddle and Jewel. (Why not come with PICTURES of them to show that you have it? Why ACTUALLY bring them???) Also, while I'm glad he brought Boges and Winter to the meet up with him, he left them both OUTSIDE to stand guard/watch. BRING AT LEAST ONE INSIDE WITH YOU! #duh
Well, lo and behold, it's a trap and Cal gets drugged and stuffed into a coffin because, oh, the meeting place was a FUNERAL PARLOR! #redflag

We end "July" with Cal waking up in the coffin as dirt is being shoveled on top of it. Does he still have the Riddle & Jewel? Do Boges and Winter know where he is? (I assume so, they probably followed the hearse that took him and will bust him out of the casket within the first 10 pages of "August").

This review contains spoiler for the previous books in the Conspiracy 365 series.

We ended June with Cal stuck in a fishing net, cops in close pursuit and him slowly drowning with the Ormond Jewel in his backpack. We begin July with Cal being saved by a bunch of fisherman from the net of their latest catch. The captain helps him evade the police in return for his service on his fishing boat, but the crewmen are a fishy lot - see what I did there! *lol, wink, wink* - and Cal doesn't know if he can trust them... especially with Zombie and Bruno always close by and the Riddle to be solved.

I was beginning to tire of Gabrielle Lord's ridiculous situations and Cal's stupidity by the end of June and wasn't excited to start the next book so I was shocked by the intensity of July. Finally we begin to move forward with progress on the Riddle and the Jewel's double-key code and get information on Cal's ancestor, Piers Ormond. The action became a part of the plotline, moving the characters along their course for answers rather than being there simply for the sake of something "exciting" to happen.

July explores the relationship of Winter and Cal further, as well as Cal and Boges. All three of them are beginning to feel the pressure of what is happening. It begins to hit home that Cal's father isn't coming back, that Cal is really on the run, that he's alone and sacred and tired of constantly watching his back. The attempts of his life are increasing with each passing day and he is sick of it. Winter is sick of not being trusted when all she wants is to help. Boges is sick of Cal being reckless - trusting strangers, trusting Winter, leaving him with the mess to cover up. I really enjoyed this deeper side of Cal. It was nice to see how he really began to think things through - his life, his father's death. It really help build this extra layer between the readers and Cal which the series could have done with a few books ago.

What I loved most about July was that everything felt necessary to the overall story. I didn't cringe as much with unbelievable scenarios. I wasn't disappointed by Cal's lack of progress with the Riddle. I actually enjoyed myself. I laughed, I smiled, I cheered Cal on.

Overall this was easily the best book of the series so far and with that killer ending I will most definitely be eagerly moving forward to August.

The book I read is Conspiracy 365 July. This is one of many books in the series by Gabrielle Lord. The text complexity (Lexile Level) is 790. This book as I said is part of a twelve part series it is the seventh book in the series. This book takes place around Callum (Cal) Ordman a fifteen year old boy trying to uncover a very important and dangerous family secret. Cal has many enemies and has to overcome many dangerous obstacles to find what he is looking for.

The main theme of this book is no matter how hard the challenge is you have to give everything you got to get past it and succeed. This theme is present throughout this book and the other books in this series. Like at the beginning of the book Cal is trapped underwater in a fishing net. Instead of giving up he gave it his all and got out of it. Or how he was trapped in the freezer a bit later. He thought of a way to get out and he did. Cal has faced many challenges and he has been able to overcome all of them. The theme also shows through the other characters in the book. Like how Cal’s best friend Boges came up with a plan right on the spot to help Cal out of a dangerous situation. And how at the Manresa or Convent Cal was trapped between the police and Sligo's (The main villain) top guy Bruno and he didn’t give up he found a motorcycle and learned how to ride it instantly and got out unharmed.This theme is shown throughout this book a lot and I think this is the best theme for this book and the series. There is still plenty more examples of this but I’m not going to spoil it for you.

This book was one of my favorites in the series so far. I have read every other book up to this point and this one definitely was one of the best. One thing I liked about this book and about every other book in the series is how Lord writes these books. I don’t really know how to explain it but she writes it so suspenseful in a way I really like. The only things I didn’t like about this book and a lot of these books is some parts are predictable. Like in a case in this book a person from another book comes back and you could see it coming. It’s not anything too bad it’s just i’m a little picky about stuff like that but overall again it was a great book. The ending of this book was my favorite in the whole series so far. I’m not going to spoil anything but it ends on the best cliffhanger in the series and if you have read any of these books you know that there is a good amount of cliffhangers in the series. My favorite part again was the ending I like it because as I said I like Lord’s style of how she wrote and worded it and it was just a great ending. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful books with action and mystery. Or if you have read one of all of the books in the series up to this point I suggest you read this one. I promise you, you will not regret it.

My book is placed in crystal beach in a mansion in a city somewhere. The other part of the setting is at his aunties house with a bunch of nuns. The main character in my book is Cal ormand a boy like 15 or 16 years old living by himself with a little help from his friend named bouges. The theme of my book is you cannot trust anyone except for a few people. The reason he cant trust anyone is because there is this guy named sligo and he has these guys to help him kill Cal. While they are trying to kill him he tries to get away by going to his aunties house but at the same time he is trying to solve this riddle about his dad. I do like my book and it is really confusing if u dont read the first part of the series. I liked my book because there is a lot of scene changing and running from cops and bad guys and thats what i like about my book. The ending wasnt as exciting because it was a cliffhanger so now i wanna know what the next book is about

DEFINITELY excited for this one. Toyed with the idea of writing a sick fic on this; Cal getting sick hasn't happened yet.

HOW IS HE GOING TO ESCAPE BEING BURIED ALIVE?! Obviously he does because there's 5 more books. Do Winter and Boges get him out? I think Cal and his twin were kidnapped and separated and the other one proclaimed dead.
I was wondering if Oriana was going to play a bigger role. She's of course going to be the really nasty villain--the manipulative and calculating kind.
Huh. This series is kind of like A Series of Unfortunate Events, only everything happens to one person instead of three.
Out of all of his brushes with death so far, the ones that have scared me the most are the oil tank, the plane crash, and this one, all of which have to do with suffocating.
After all of the shit Cal's had to go through, the ending had BETTER be happy. I hope Cal gets to pay everyone back who was nice to him. I think he and Winter will get together.

This book is about mid teen named Callum Ormond who has been framed MANY times and is basically wanted dead or alive. Despite the situation he still tries to keep himself alive, stay away from the cops, decipher his dad's drawings, and more. When your wanted all over the country by not only the cops but also criminals who want to be rich, life gets hard and you don't know who to trust. Unfortunately there have been multiple times where Cal trusts somebody and then they try to capture him for the cops.
This is a very thrilling book and if you like the earlier books or books like a Series of Unfortunate Events then I definitely think you will like this.

Spoilers kinda: Very good book, I enjoyed and read in two nights which made me tired, It was very good so I had to. Callum Ormond is staying in the isolated apartment of Winter Frey, who has become a valuable friend and asset in this series to Callum Ormond. She has insight on one of the two big crim gangs after him, because she is the adopted daughter of the leader, Vulkan Sligo. I am calling that there is a relationship between the two later.
Definitely should read!

Another, thrilling and adrenaline-pumping story! I know it's just a book, but I'm still amazed at how Cal's surviving all these obstacles that Gabrielle Lord puts in his way! Never trusted the Oriana de la Force part in the story; it's just like her to be a sneaky mind-twisting individual! Things are getting so much better, now that they are closing in on the Riddle's secrets; and besides, the tides between Cal and Winter are turning for the better, I hope....

Another cute story with a huge cliffhanger. I thought this one had a lot mor development than the other books have had. I enjoyed this one a lot. I think all of the main characters: Cal, Boges, and Winter all really grew in this book. I also felt like more forward motion was made on the mystery which was feeling a little stagnant. Still believe this book is perfect for the mystery lover.

Cal survives another month - makes it to his 16th birthday but will he make it to the end of the day. The cliff hanger ending means you will need to wait until the next book for the answer.

Seemingly never out of danger, even in a covent! Cal continues to dodge both the police and his enemies while hunter for more clues to explain the Ormond Singularity.

2 - there is a reminder of what happened last month at the beginning,
3 - fast-paced,
4 - ends in the middle of something exciting going on. You will want to jump from one Book right into the next.

Seems similar to 39 Clues though I think (if I remember right) that the kids were younger in that book. This one is better because it is all written by the same author. 39 Clues began to feel like it wasn’t thought out much ahead of time because of the authors thing. I never finished it because I started reading before all the books had been published...
