The Summer Rules: A slow burn YA romance

Rate this book
Belle Acton’s heartfelt novel reminds readers happiness can be found in surprising places.

Izzy takes things seriously, while Em takes them light. Their differences never mattered much; they’re best friends and always have been.

It’s senior year at Watford (an elite boarding school on Sydney’s North Shore) and for the first time, the girls’ classes will be combined with boys from the brother school across the road.

Enter, the gorgeous and notorious, Dominic Hunter.

Em's crushing hard on Dom. She has a plan to win him over and she isn't afraid to use it. To everyone’s surprise, they’re hooking up before even he knows what’s hit him!

Izzy has bigger problems to worry about than playing second fiddle to the hottest boy in school. Her mum’s sick and it’s got everyone concerned.

When Em goes to Japan over the summer, Izzy is enlisted to hang out with Dom and keep him out of trouble. She does her best but honestly, the boy is slippery!

As, everything spirals out of control, Izzy finds herself wondering if rules are made to be broken.

A coming-of-age story about friendship, family, and first love. Perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover, Ginger Scott and Anna Todd.

”Absorbing story, exploiting the different levels of morality of the characters. It all worked for me. Full marks!” – Romance Writers of Australia FIVE STARS

”Belle brings the heat in this extraordinary debut novel - I raced through it! The flaws each character embodies are so painfully human - I was rooting for them despite themselves. Can't wait for the next one...” FIVE STARS

”An extraordinarily moving debut novel” – FIVE STARS

”A slam dunk of a teen romance novel...This is what growing up feels like - painful, fun and the steaminess!!!! I laughed, I cried. I loved it!” – FIVE STARS

This book promotes unhealthy relationships and examples for teenagers. I am a teenager myself but never in a million years would I want to have this relationship or see other young kids watch this example of unhealthy standards. Cheating is not ok or healthy and no healthy relationship (especially in high school) starts from cheating or an affair unlike this book shows. The grammar in this book was also not the best and a lot of the quotes were one sided like this representation the book shows.

Great Read

Great story to read especially to a Sydney resident as well it felt familiar and the little nuances and places mentioned gave it away that the Author is also from Sydney which was what made it so good! Loved the story .
