Jane B. Mason grew up in a large family in northern Minnesota. She has written books for kids of all ages under many names and on many subjects, among them ghosts, Jedi, detective duos, princesses, twins, mean girls, and slam books.

Jane has lived in the midwest and on both coasts, but appears to have settled in Oakland, California, and writes almost every day at either a friend's dining room table or a little studio in her back yard, where she has a purple loveseat, a whole lotta books, and an odd selection of trinkets she has unwittingly been collecting since she was a child.

4.25 stars. In this book, Zoey and the girls experience their initiation to PCA from the boys. The initiation called prank week, consists of the boys pranking the girls with water balloons and toilet paper. Fed up with the boys' antics, Zoey and her friends retaliate by dressing a prestigious statue like a lady. Zoey's actions have steep consequences, as she is almost expelled from PCA. The book is the storyline of the TV episode Prank Week. A couple of weeks later, Logan gifts the girls a teddy bear to set up in the lounge. The girls are unaware that Logan is listening to their secrets through a webcam in the teddy. Those plot points are the storyline for the TV episode webcam. This book is entertaining.

One thing that stuck out to me here is that there was a much smoother transition between the two episodes included, rather than diving the book into halves. It gave the book a much better flow than just being a word-for-word adaptation of the show.

A Quickie Review

Though I love most of Disney Channel and Nickelodeon's live-action productions, novels based on them are usually far from stellar, and this is no exception.  Of course Zoey 101 addicts will love this, but everyone else should just seek out "Webcam" and "Prank Week," the episodes on which this book is based, on iTunes or elsewhere.
