The late Christopher Stasheff was an American science fiction and fantasy author. When teaching proved too real, he gave it up in favor of writing full-time. Stasheff was noted for his blending of science fiction and fantasy, as seen in his Warlock series. He spent his early childhood in Mount Vernon, New York, but spent the rest of his formative years in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Stasheff taught at the University of Eastern New Mexico in Portales, before retiring to Champaign, Illinois, in 2009. He had a wife and four children.
A classic series by an outstanding sci-fi author. I enjoy the series because it shares the adventures of Rod Gallowglass (as he’s known) across time with lots of character development. It’s also a great way to incorporate fantasy elements into a sci-fi world. Definitely old school science fiction, but well worth the read.
An enjoyable read, especially because of the difference between the first part (#0) and the rest. It's an attempt to make a fantasy setting make some sense, scientifically (assuming espers and such, anyway). It has humor and doesn't take itself too seriously.
I've got fond memories of reading this collection of Warlock stories a long, long time ago and, while they started out just as good as I remembered, as I made my way through "The Warlock in Spite of Himself" my overwhelming thought was "Wow, I do NOT remember this being so sexist!"
I think that sometimes you are just better off sticking with your fond memories...
I read one of these books a loooong time ago and when I spotted this book I couldn't resist bying it to see what the other two stories were like. The first story was excellent and hte second was as enjoyable as I remembered it to be. It might have been an overload of the world of Gramarye but the third one wasn't as good as I'd hoped but not bad overall.
