Firstly thank you to Isra for the advanced copy, I appreciate the opportunity.

This book has so much potential, but I found the writing style so clunky and the characters were unconvincing. Their voices were very immature the main female is 20, but reads like she’s 14, the 400 year old male Vampire speaks like a 19 year old Lad- but uses cliché British expressions that no one actually says here in the UK- it was just so discordant. The characters feel a constant need to express every single thought they have no matter how mundane, and this comes at the expense of plot development.

The plot was incredibly rushed and lacked refinement, it lurched from event to event and from perspective to perspective- one of the characters introduced towards the end breaks the 4th wall speaking directly to the reader, it felt really jarring.

There is spice, but the sex scenes feel really awkward, bordering on comical, but not in a good way. There is no real foundation for the romantic relationships- they are just there and happen really quickly. I feel like everything needed more development and more show not tell.

This is my first book read by this author and was fortunate enough to get an Arc, so thank you for that Isra! 😊

This book had a good idea with the plot and the idea of it following a group of different supernatural beings got me intrigued however the delivery just did not hit the spot for me unfortunately.

Straight off the bat it was go, go, go. And while I don't mind this, it meant a lot of information was left out. Firstly it follows a supernatural huntress called Katerina. When I hear supernatural huntress I think someone that hunts down bad supernatural beings and slays them but all she seems to do is clear houses of spirits as she is psychic? The author doesn't go into detail about what a supernatural huntress is or how she came to be one. Also I assumed she was human and then over half way through it mentioned she was half fae all of a sudden that confused me?
When the fire happened she climbed out the window, went straight to her friends house and has not spoken to the firemen or police since which I found weird.
She moved in with a vampire who made me cringe a little, as a fellow British I have never heard anyone say "jolly good" or "poppy cock". It did make me laugh though. But after 2 days there she gets in the bath with him and does the deed... I feel like it was all rushed. I would've preferred a slow burn tension but that's just my opinion.

The book felt a bit rushed to me. I feel like it could've been a hundred or so pages longer and a lot more details added in.
HOWEVER I think I will read the next book in the series as this one ended on a cliff hanger and I want to know what happens! And I am hoping the author expands on stuff in the second book, more back stories, more information to pull things together, details that were missed, the supernatural huntress thing, etc.
Overall an easy read, and quite quick (I read it in a day) so worth a read if you like that.
😊😊

Plot 2/5

ARC review!!
PRN RH fantasy

This is the first book I've read by this author. It took me a lil while to get into this. I enjoyed the story but I felt like it needed more. This is the first book in the series so hopefully in book two there will be more of a plot and hopefully get to see more of a dynamic between the characters.

Katerina seems like a very strong capable woman with many talents but I would have liked to have read a little more about her backstory and how she became a huntress. Elias is Katerina's best friend and he is half human half Fae, He wants more than friendship with Katerina but will their connections be strong enough to keep their friendship together after Elias betrayal or will their friendship be completely over....

Thank you to Isra for the advanced copy, I appreciate the opportunity.

The inconsistency in the writing style struck me while reading this book. The author delves into explaining certain British nuances, but overlooks others. This uneven treatment of details disrupts the reading experience. Additionally, the narrative perspective shifts abruptly between talking to oneself, addressing the reader directly, and engaging with other characters. A more seamless transition between these perspectives would greatly enhance the flow of the story. To maintain coherence, it would be preferable if the book adhered to a single point of view throughout.
One of the notable drawbacks of the book is the insufficient exploration of Kat's identity as a huntress and the backstory behind her title. This lack of insight into her role and its significance leaves a gap in our understanding. The pacing of the plot also felt rushed, contributing to a choppy narrative. Furthermore, the dialogue and characterization of Kat and other major figures fell short of authenticity. Kat's manner of speech doesn't quite match that of a typical 24-year-old woman, and the same inconsistency can be observed in the way the Vampire expresses himself. Elias, too, lacks the charm or relatability needed to draw readers in.
A peculiar aspect is the recurring theme of physical intimacy, where multiple characters seem drawn to Kat romantically, yet the depth of these relationships remains unexplored. The inclusion of awkwardly constructed sex scenes diminishes the impact they could have had. Additionally, the prelude to these encounters, involving monologues about consent, feels out of place, particularly when attributed to the character Elias. The misalignment of this theme with his persona is noticeable. The characters' handling of consent is perplexing; they advocate its importance, yet often attempt to persuade Kat to change her stance after she's already declined, disregarding her clear wishes.
As someone who typically enjoys fantasy novels, I was intrigued by the promising story idea presented in this book. Regrettably, the rushed pace leaves much to be desired in terms of character development and world-building. Instead of delivering answers, the book leaves readers with more questions, undermining the overall satisfaction derived from the story.
In conclusion, the potential within the fantasy narrative is evident, yet the book's execution falls short due to inconsistent writing, underdeveloped characters, and an inadequate handling of significant themes. A slower pace and more thorough exploration of characters and their relationships would greatly enrich the reader's experience, ensuring that the story lives up to its intriguing premise.

Burned by the Fae was a interesting read by Isra Sravenheart.
It's the first book I've read by the author and the first novel in a series. It felt a little rushed at times but still a enjoyable read that leaves you on a cliff hanger.
I look forward to reading more by the author.

This book was really good. A short and captivating book that keeps you engaged and wanting more. Although it felt a little rushed with a somewhat confusing timeline and a lot of inner dialoguing, it was nice to know the characters better and be able to see the different pov the characters had of each interaction. I really can't wait for the next book and am really excited to see what more this author has to grace us with!

Thank you to the author as I was honored to have an ARC. I realize it is difficult to put your hard work into something knowing others are going to critique it.

I was excited to read the book as I'm an avid fantasy reader and love anything pertaining to Fae. The story started out well and had my interest immediately piqued. I really liked the overall premise and found the mix of characters very intriguing. However, despite the great potential and strong start, the book fell short.

There wasn't much world building which was fine as it didn't need it. However, the characters don't have much depth and come across as immature. That being said it is the first book in a series and I suspect a lot more details about each character will be introduced in the future. I hope future books will contain more character development.

The plot was rushed and I felt as if I was missing half the book. The story jumped around with no real lead up to important events. It felt like an outline that didn't have the meat of the story filled in. On the other hand, there was an excessive amount of non-pertinent information; the commentary was extremely repetitive and random. I think at least a quarter of the book or more could be removed without negatively impacting the overall story. To be fair, there were a lot of British phrases/references that were lost on me.

There is a little spice randomly thrown in. Once again the scenes felt rushed and much of the phrasing was unfortunately cringeworthy. The progression of the bathtub scene was simply not plausible and I found it overall just plain odd.

Once again, I liked the overall premise and the idea of unique characters. However, in the end I felt as if the book itself wasn't complete.

I received an ARC copy of this book. (Thank you!)

This was a modern age world with humans, fae and other fantastical creatures.

Our FMC, is a supernatural huntress. Sounds pretty badass! However in the book it shows her as more a person working at local holistic store. ..until the last oh 20% of the book. And even then it was maybe, at most, 2 pages worth of text that explored her supernatural hunting.

I was slightly confused as to where this was supposed to be taking place. A few times the measuring systems bounced between metrics.

The dialogue was flat but their inner dialogue was more thought out. Showing emotion and somewhat complex feelings.

Also the terminology, growing up the only places I knew of that used the term “hella” as much as these characters were poorly stereotyped as a west coast thing. (No hate, as I hella grew up here).

While labeled as a reverse harem, I didn’t see it as such.

SPOILERS BELOW:

-one night thing with BFF

-a comforting one time experience with someone (2 total lovers, one instance per)

-spice was very low.

-spice scenes were themselves were lacking continuity as the actions they were doing/positioning

-Lucien varies and tries to talk like a late 20-something to a 16 yr old. I half expected a “sup bro?”

-warrick!!!

My hopes are that book 2 and the remainder of the series takes the constructive feedback. Expands the scene and world building for continuity’s sake.
Would I read the rest? Yes!

I would like to thank the author for the opportunity for an honest review.

Honestly, this author has so much potential. Their ideas are great and I really hope they take the constructive criticism they've been getting from these reviews to grow, and I'd be honored to give their other later books a chance.

In my opinion, the book is way too rushed. The book is less than 200 pages, and should easily be double that to cover the content it did without it feeling so rushed. The spicy scenes especially were lacking, and not entertaining at all.

The descriptions were non existent where they should be, and too much description where it was not needed. Did we really need 3 different chapters having what Tea tasted like in there? Or 2 with coffee tastes?

The fourth wall breaks honestly were not my favorite. Made the characters and writing seem immature especially with the "You know?" And similar addings.

If this book slowed down, it would have been fantastic

I want to say thank you for the arc of this book.

But unfortunately it was not for me. It took me way too long to read and I should have honestly DNF. The sex scenes were just uncomfortable and like thrown together, and some of the dialogue between the characters didn’t make sense. The writing was really hard for me to read. There wasn’t any backstory for the characters either. I think the author had a good idea and would have benefited more from more details and building relationships with the characters. I understand it’s supposed to be a why choose but I didn’t really feel like it played out as a why choose. It does end on a cliffhanger but I will not be reading the rest of the series.

Received this as an ARC (thanks!) I would rate it as a 3.5 ⭐️ Felt I was in an information free fall. It was so rushed on the pacing and action. Relationships felt forced but I really loved the multiple POVs.

Had questions including:

Our FMC is a “supernatural huntress” and this could be threatening. Sadly, we don’t really find out what that means until well over way in. I am still not sure I understand it though.

“Eww, does he have no koufe? ” - he has no what? Is that supposed to be he is uncouth?

Overall, it was lively but needs a little something more. I am hoping the next book slows down and gives us a bit more information.

Fae Behaving Badly

3.5⭐

Interesting Urban Fantasy. Katerina psychic, witch who is also a huntress who is being hunted. She turns to her best friend Elias who is a mixed breed (Human/Fae) for help but unbeknownst to her Elias is keeping secrets.

With her home destroyed by fire, Elias recommends that Katerina takes up residency with a vampire named Lucien and is demonic assistant.

Everybody seems to have nefarious intentions towards Katerina and she really don't know who to trust.

This was a quick story that was fast burn and face paced ending on an unexpected cliffhanger.

I am rather fond of books about the fae, and I was excited to read this one because of that reason. Katerina is only half fae, and we don’t know much about her past. We meet her best friend, and he tries to protect her by placing her with a vampire. Then everything kinda goes sideways in more ways than one when we learn some secrets. I really prefer that books show me what’s going on as opposed to me being told what’s going on, which is what this book mostly does. However, if you love a good paranormal romance, look no further. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

SPOILERS

Not for me.

This has the elements of a decent story but no real plot thickening.

The characters are shallow and almost unbelievable. Katerina has supposedly been secretly in love with Elias for years and he reciprocates her feelings but as soon as he moves on them she wigs out and runs to the vampire she barely knows.

I assume the author is from the UK because a lot of the phrasing isn't American and the characters all smoke indoors and smoke/drink to the point of puking and then makeout. It gives me the ick.

May be good for some but not my taste at all.

Y'all know I'm an avid fantasy reader, so when I find a fantasy book that knocks me off my feet, dang, I need to tell y'alls about it!!

This has vampires, demons, faes, ghosts, and supernatural hunters, but it absolutely DOES NOT follow any storyline you've ever read before!

It kept me on the edge of my seat for 24 hours, and I couldn't put it down! I'm devastated it left me on a cliffhanger!

If fantasy is your genre (and I totally think you should give it a shot), please try this story! It's so, so, SO spectacular!!

I normally love reverse harems and faes, so I was hyped up to start this series. But i could not get into the writing style. The characters felt two-dimensional to me, and their speach was flat. I found also the reactions of the characters not enough alive. Is it the too heavy descriptions that killed the vibe? I'm not sure, but this series starter did nothing for me. Shame, because I would have loved to love it...

I was surprised with this book. I wasn’t sure how the story was going to go because it felt a little rushed. I really like Lucian despite all his tea drinking. 😂 I have a lot of questions for some of the characters and can’t wait to read more. **Spoiler maybe ends on a cliffhanger. Which totally worked because I wasn’t sure how she was going to end the book so quickly. Left me wanting more. Excited for Face’s Captive!

Burned by the Fae - I don't think so!

I finished reading this book, as someone had taken the time to write it!
I kept hoping it would get better, but alas, it didn't!!
I'm not quite sure who this was aimed at, but I'm guessing YA. It was so immature in its use of language, and the proof reading was atrocious.
I don't care if the story continues in the next book, I won't be reading it!!
Sorry, not for me.

I really liked this story. It is very well written and hosts some interesting characters. Katerina was 24 and working part time at Enchanted Dreams. One night she woke up to her house on fire. She makes it out and goes to her friends house. As she stays there she gets closer to Elias and he is worried about her so he suggests some protection. She ends up at Lucien Devante's home. He is an quirky British Vampire who just loves tea. He is her protection and they don't seem to hit it off to well. Katerina has many things to learn. The vampire may not be friendly but his words will soon have truth to them. They will maybe even become friends. Loved it.

Fun book to read.

I really enjoyed this one. I've been curious about her books for a while, and I got a free copy, so I decided to read it. I couldn't stop reading from the moment I started and I'd say the only cons was that it was too short because I wanted to keep reading. I like fae and reversed harem books, so this was right up my ally.

This is a good book. The writing is very solid. The characters are well built and you are able to visualize them. The world building is well throughout and placed. I, personally was not able to connect with this story. However, just because I was not does not mean that you won’t. I recommend you give this book a try.
