It's bad enough that the world's most powerful vampires are following gallery assistant Hanna Harvey like a cloud of undead mosquitos. But finding one of their heads in the trunk of her Mustang? There's not enough cheese in the world to unsee that. Her stud-muffin alpha werewolf boss, Mark Abernathy, suspects that someone stashing vampy bits in Hanna's immediate vicinity is part of a plot to set-off an inter-species war . . . with Hanna's own destiny at its heart.
Getting to the bottom of Hanna's headless guests will mean fending off the dogged investigation of Detective James Morrison--now suspended from the force and hell-bent on exposing the secrets that could not only destroy Abernathy, but everyone he's sworn to protect.
Now facing a force older and more sinister than any she's encountered, the stakes have never been higher for Hanna, who must finally decide to ascend to her rightful place in the pack, or risk losing everything--and everyone--she loves.
USA Today bestselling author Cynthia St. Aubin wrote her first play at age eight and made her brothers perform it for the admission price of gum wrappers. A steal, considering she provided the wrappers in advance. Though her early work debuted to mixed reviews, she never quite gave up on the writing thing, even while earning a mostly useless master's degree in art history and taking her turn as a cube monkey in the corporate warren.
Because the voices in her head kept talking to her, and they discourage drinking at work, she started writing instead. When she's not standing in front of the fridge eating cheese, she's hard at work figuring out which mythological, art historical, or paranormal friends to play with next. She lives in Colorado with the love of her life and three surly cats.
tldr: If you are going to put a love declaration in a book, I want CONVERSATIONS first, please. Same for peeing on people. CONVERSATIONS BEFORE PEEING ON PEOPLE.
I felt this series was overlooked based on the first 2 books, but here I think the series has gone a bit off the rails. I definitely will keep an eye out for St Aubin's future work but I am done with this series.
First, I will say that St. Aubin is a good writer. She writes funny sentences and her writing is easy to read on the page. She doesn't clog up the narrative space with useless information. I really appreciate that aspect of her style.
The main problem here, I think, is that the narrative voice works so hard to be snappy and zingy that not only does it become distracting for the reader at times, but more importantly it neglects to flesh out characters. It becomes difficult to perceive other characters through the veil of Hanna's never-ending dry quipping. Most notably it neglects to flesh out Mark, who just becomes this secretive stonewalling guy always looking at the protagonist's (I forget her name) boobs. And peeing on her, of course.
Yes, as a wolf Mark pees on her to mark her, in some fit of maleness, in a jealous rampage. It honestly was really funny but also annoying, because the next scene after that is a makeout scene where the protagonist decides she wants to sleep with Mark. I don't want to kink shame, lolz. But it doesn't even seem like Hanna (I remembered) thinks getting peed on is weird. Or that a prospective lover going apeshit out of jealousy is weird. She just accepts it as something ok for someone to do to her. This probably would bother me less if Mark and Hanna had had a single actual real conversation in the first half of the book. I have read tons of romance novels with the jealous-irrational-male trope that navigate this better.
The thing that made me quit reading was the whole ancestral-doppelganger-that-Mark-was-in-love-with-before-Hanna-was-even-born plotline. I expect that shit from Vampire Diaries but not here. And it was better when Vampire Diaries did it.
Another issue is that we suddenly find out that Mark and other werewolves have been reading minds this whole time. Why are we only learning this now? Why wasn't it set up in previous books? Also, what the hell excuse can Mark have for being a withholding asshole when he apparently has been able to access Hanna's thoughts this whole time?
I also was kind of annoyed Morrison's character just got unexpectedly shafted.
By the time we got to Mark's declaration of love, I did not give a single fuck so I knew there was no point in continuing. I felt like I had no idea who his character was or what he could have been thinking this entire book. An issue that, I think, stems from too much attention going into making the prose snappy, and too little attention to making the reader fall in love along with Hanna.
If you are going to put a love declaration in a book, I want CONVERSATIONS first, please. Also peeing on people. CONVERSATIONS BEFORE PEEING ON PEOPLE.

Will she see in time what he tries to hide ...
Finally the last installment in this series. I laughed at the antics of the many protagonists, the author has such a way with words, they flow like a stream in a fury under a raging storm. I loved the banter, quips and silly teasing between the characters, all crazier than the last. Separately I loved Hanna, Mark and even James, but I felt like the story was running in circles and riddles for most of the book, him tight lipped and she stubbornly blind and deaf. Plus I am not found of love triangle as there is always one left with a broken heart.
One thing is sure, you are in for a ride in this last installment.
The end is quite perfect as it brings finally Mark and Hanna together in the best romantic way possible but what an epic and crazy tale in between. With a wedding to plane, vampires loosing their head, ex-suitor in love, unicorn farting sprinkles, some crazy emperor in the lose, there is no time to thing just follow the flow. I would just have liked for Mark and Hanna to sort out their different a bit earlier in the story even if the end was very much moving. 3.75 rounded up to 4 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Oliver Herber, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
Can’t get enough of Hanna, Mark, and the rest of quirky characters at the gallery. Smart and witty. It will have you laughing out loud and often. Lots happening in Love Lies that kept me glued to the pages!!
his book was provided to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Perhaps it's because it has been a long time since I read a paranormal romance that I had trouble getting into Love Lies. It may also be that I missed the first two in the series? It was cute enough and provided a lot of alpha male (if you like that sort of thing) but it was just okay. A solid okay.
Finally an ending that doesn't drive me to read the next book despite it being 4:40 in the morning when i finished this one. Have to admit, the wedding of Steve and Shayla was adorable and made me tear up a little. The unicorn was... well, about what i expected from this author, irreverent and sterotype breaking, lol. James may have redemed himself in my eyes, he got his shit together in the end, and suffered for it. think i'm back on team both.
This book was provided to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I made the mistake of reading this book without reading the previews two, however, I personally didnt feel as lost as I though I would. However, I do highly highly recommend to read the other two because this is a conclusion so it has a lot lot of spoilers
I really enjoyed the writting style, it was kinda reading/talking with your friend Hanna and her crazy crazy life. Adored the famous people that make their apperance in this novels, it was so much fun!
Hanna's humor is so dry and Mark is sooo alpha malish!! their chemistry was on point and the sparks ... uufff!!! 10/10 This is one of the first reads where the woman does not jump eagerly to become a supernatural but actually has questions and worries and clearly wants to make an informed decision.
Overall it was a fun read, I will go back and read the whole series.
If you are looking for something that has everykind of supernatural and its light and fun --> look no further.
This book will keep you guessing until its final chapters. It had me glued to the pages into the wee hours of the morning.
Cynthia St. Aubin is a gifted storyteller. She pens exquisite descriptions and witty dialogue, applying humor with an artist’s expert brushstrokes. Her attention to detail engages all of a reader’s senses.
Like the first two books of the series (be sure to read them in order) this one has a lot going on. Of course there are the werewolves and vampires, but there is also a wedding, a pregnancy or two, some international travel and some bombshell revelations. Longtime St. Aubin fans are sure to be thrilled by the crossover of characters from another of her series as well.
St. Aubin’s wit and charm are unmatched. This one had me laughing repeatedly.
“At this, he cast a meaningful glance at me. I resented the ocular implications of mistrust.”
I think this was okay but had a lot less refined plot and a very silly escalation in how specialest special Chosen One she is as it further developed the magic system. Which was... a choice.
The frequency the verb "hump" appeared. The magic sex aspect (werewolfism can be contracted by getting pregnant by a werewolf, or just....doing the deed if you're a recessive werewolf. You can also get it from being improperly killed by a werewolf, which I found confusing but at least made it less of an STD) The fact that the part of MMC was played by a man who has many (tho not all) of the same red flags that Tamlin has. They are classic romance hero traits, but with Morrison as his foil they were much harder to accept as "just par for the course."
I love Morrison, and felt like they spent a lot more time developing a real friendship with him than with Abernathy, which made it much harder to root for Abernathy. It felt odd, like we COULD have been friends with Abernathy, we just......didn't bother. Because romance heroes aren't real? I don't know. This man withholds information as a matter of principle and it is infuriating. It gave me Tamlin/Lucien flashbacks the way she gets all real information from his friends and not him directly. The reveal at the end kind of fixed that, but it was still all implied and not explicit and still kinda huh? And also maybe icky--like Twilight icky. I wish we'd seen some wooing and friendship and hanging out between Abernathy and Hanna. Mostly we see Abernathy lusting after her or being frustrated or amused by her antics--and they *are* antics.
Also, Hanna, our heroine, is so dumb for books 2 and 3. She has moments of smart, and since her dumb is primarily in reading people and anticipating socio political ANYTHING I suppose it could be a character trait. It was difficult at times to know why two men were in love with her.
I felt like the writing improved as the series went on, though at times waxed too lyrical to convey what was actually happening. But, this is definitely more what I was looking for when I first started looking for books with werewolves. I just also thought the quality of Hanna and Abernathy's relationship would improve as the series went on, and it really didn't. Apparently there is a book 4, and from the reviews it continues in the same vein. The plot of each book is driven by Hanna and Abernathy's inability to have a conversation and Hanna spends an inordinate amount of time pining for the guy she didn't choose (Spoiler? In case anyone thought there was any way this series wasn't going to have a werewolf as endgame)--I mean I get it, Morrison rocks. But you made your choice. I don't think I'll keep reading. Everyone is safe enough and happy enough, and I think if I keep reading I'll just have a harder time swallowing the Hanna/Abernathy thing.
And yet. 4 stars because I read the whole trilogy in three days and had a good time. It was genuinely funny (on purpose, even). Maybe 5, because I'm sure I've given 5 to books with bigger problems and this one just triggered a higher standard clause.
🌶🌶🌶🌶
Spoilers for sure:
I'm pretty upset on Morrison's behalf, honestly. He's such a good guy, somewhat inconsistently written and far better off financially than is typical for a real detective (which, I thought would be a plot point...but no). But for someone who loves food and art like he does, to be turned into a frikken vampire is being done dirty. It was purely for plot, and it would've been so much better if he a) hadn't been turned, or b) was turned into a werewolf, with whom he has so much in common already. This poor guy. He gets left for a carnie, then left for an emotionally unavailable dogman, and THEN on top of everything else he can no longer taste food? Poor Morrison. Maybe only 3 stars.
I am obsessed with this series... obsessed like I haven't been obsessed in a long time. I started the first book of the series, Love Bites on Tuesday and finished this books(3rd) on Thursday night. I have two young kiddos, reading 3 ebooks in two days is unheard of. I can't remember the last time I have given up sleep to read a book. I love everything about this series.
This book starts off with Hannah being stalked by famous vampires. The word is out and Hannah is yummy! Vampires are also showing up in the most inconvenient places.. with out their heads. Hannah and the rest of the gang are trying to find out who is killing off vampires and setting them up before the vampire council finds out! As with the other books in this series, Hannah shines. The storyline is interesting and I honesty didn't see the ending coming but Hannah's banter is still my favorite part. I literally laughed out loud during this entire book. My husband tried to take my iPad away because I kept waking him up.
If you haven't started this series, DO IT! I promise you won't regret it.
Apparently I started at the end of the series. Or maybe it’s the middle? I’m not sure, it’s a little unclear. However. Anyways. I wasn’t a fan of the heroine. For some reason, I pictured her as a high pitched whine, and I couldn’t let go of that image. It made it very difficult to enjoy. The men are your typical Alpha heroes. Things happened at a weird pace. Overall, it was okay.
Love Lies is the third installment in Cynthia St. Aubin’s Tails from the Alpha Art Gallery. This series has become a favorite of mine, and I can’t get enough of it. It features a fantastic cast of characters, including a heroine who adores her cats and loves eating cheese, an overly protective art gallery owner who is also a werewolf, a nosy cop who is obsessed with the heroine and is determined to take down the art gallery owner, and many other unforgettable characters.
In the third book, Hanna Harvey is dealing with the unsettling situation of someone leaving heads in various places near her. These places include the trunk of her car, the closets at the art gallery where she works, and even her suitcase, where she’s traveling for dinner with her boss, Mark Abernathy. No one knows who is responsible, but they are starting to suspect someone may be attempting to instigate a conflict between the vampires and werewolves. In the meantime, Hanna has to decide if she’ll become the werewolf heir that everyone says she is, all while dealing with two men who are in love with her, although only one admits it right away.
Love Lies was another entertaining and humorous book that was hard to put down. Cynthia’s writing style balances being sharp, witty and fun with some intense moments between the characters, especially when it comes to figuring out who is behind the mysterious appearances of heads around Hanna. I absolutely adore the main character, Hanna Harvey, for her handling life’s challenges. My favorite scene in this book is when she returns home from her trip and finds her apartment in a mess due to someone throwing a party in it. I love how she handled the situation, especially when Morrison, the cop obsessed with her, shows up to question her about what happened at her apartment.
The entire time I was reading this book, I was hoping that Hanna and Mark would finally admit their feelings for one another, especially Mark. They’ve had tension since the first book, and it’s about time these two realize they have chemistry, and not only because Hanna is the werewolf heir. Yes, there is technically a love triangle that is happening in the books, but Hanna only has feelings for one of the guys.
Once again, Cynthia surprised me with the unexpected twists in this book’s ending. I was not prepared for what happened to a certain character, but I’m intrigued by Cynthia’s plans for this character in the next book. I was also surprised by the revelation of the person responsible for everything (or at least helped), even though I had suspected them since their unexpected appearance at the beginning of this book.
As someone who enjoys art, humanities, and world history, reading this series brings me a lot of joy, and I really appreciate how Cynthia incorporates numerous historical and famous figures into the fictional world she developed in this series. Some of them play the villains well.
I’m thrilled to have found this series by Cynthia St. Aubin because it has quickly become a favorite of mine. This book definitely deserves five stars, just like the previous books. After reading the end of Love Lies, I’m more eager than ever to dive into the fourth book in the series.
Single/Dual POV: Single POV (Heroine’s POV)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s the third book in the Tails from the Alpha Art Gallery series and needs to be read in order.
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes. If you enjoy Paranormal Romantic Comedies that will make you laugh out loud and keep you on the edge of your seat with the mysterious storyline, then you should check out this book/series.
I absolutely flew through this book once I picked it up. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of the books depicting Hanna and everyone at the gallery. As always, Cynthia St. Aubin serves up healthy doses of love, laughter, with a sprinkling of angst, and, of course, descriptions of food that might as well be porn. Every bit the zany adventures I've come to expect from her writing, we delve into paranormal politics, jet off to Scotland, and discover more than a few lies and omissions. Hanna remains lovable if a bit overzealous with her fangirling.
I struggled a bit with the love triangle in this one, mostly because I was absurdly angry at hunky Abernathy. His reasons for withholding information felt flimsy at best and as much as I enjoyed him in the earlier books, I wish there had been more character growth. Still, the chemistry was red hot and I was absolutely there for those descriptions of Abernathy's forearms. Yum!
Even with that growing desire to smack him with a rolled-up newspaper, I would definitely revisit this series in the future. I'm content enough with the ending, though I wasn't exactly enamored, and I will desperately miss these beloved characters.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have absolutely loved this series from the moment I picked up the first book Love Bites. The story just keeps getting better and better with every passing page. There's romance and mystery and pharnormal.. I honestlu fell in love with the love triangke between Hanna and her two love interest Mr. Abernathy and Morrison.I honestly couldn't put the book down as I needed to know the rest of Hanna and Abernathy story and let's just say that the author didn't let me down. I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series because I can't wait to see what a waits us in our next adventure with Hanna and her cast of friends.
Love Lies, is book #3in the “Tails from the Alpha Art Gallery” continues the adventurous and hilarious relationship of Hannah Harvey and Mark Abernathy. Hannah finds that she has much on her plate as the life expectancy in front of her, becomes increasingly difficult and dangerous as a possible Werewolves and Vampires centuries, old war could erupt. This is a series’s that a reader’s attention will be absorbed into. The storyline cannot help but have one wondering what’s coming next for Hannah/Mark and their family members and friends,on to book #4 soon. Sorry no spoilers, grab a copy listen/read and enjoy!
This has to be my favorite from the series, to be honest.
I am a little confused about what the fourth book will be about due to the ending which had me squealing out of utter happiness. The whole thing was *chefs kiss*
This has been a humorous entertaining series and this book was no different. The characters are quirky and full of big personalities. The storyline is well written and a lot of fun to read.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.
Unfortunately, I didn’t like this one as much as the first two in the series 🥲 but, it still has parts that made me laugh out loud! Ofc it ends on a cliffhanger, so I’m ready to start the next one 🥳
This series keeps getting better and better. Which should be hard since it started out fabulous. Great character, lots if humor, and a story that tugs at your heart.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I'd love go listen to it as the narrator does an exceptional job, but the audio version is not out let and I want to know what happens next.
Just in case you haven't figured it out, I highly recommend this book and series. You must read/listen to the books in order.
OMG! This series just keeps getting better and better! I did audio and the narrator is awesome. We meet Mark's dad who is not a nice person. We meet Wallace the Unicorn, and what a hoot-toot he is! But the ending!! Where is book 4 as I need to know what happens next. Do yourself a favor and read these books or wait for all 5 and then binge to your hearts content.
