The choice of words in this book often does not match the reading level for which it appears to be written. Take these two pages: "They check other tools, too." It's simple and clearly written for a very basic reading level. The next page reads: "Firefighters rush into action when the alarm rings." From a beginning reader perspective (the perspective of someone for whom the previous page was an appropriate level of challenge), this is impossible to read. First, it includes an "r" controlled vowel (usually taught later than consonant digraphs like the "ch" and "ck" used on the previous page. That's not ideal, but I could forgive it if the page didn't also contain a "tion" word that is neither a Dolch sight word nor easily extrapolated from pictorial clues. The whole book is like this. Parts of it are appropriate for the intended audience, and parts of it simply don't work.
