I know for a fact I've read this book before, so I'm not sure why it was marked as "want to read" and not read, but regardless, I read it again.
I will say my one main "complaint" about this book is the amount of religious talk. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not against any religions, and I'm happy for anyone and everyone that believes. I just dislike when a book is overpowered with it is all. It's not my favorite.
Moving on, I loved the compassion Dr. Lesslie had for each and every patient he spoke about. Regardless to their history, their story, etc; he humanized each and every patient he had and treated them kindly. As a medical professional should.
Some of the stories were absolutely heartbreaking and hard to get through, specifically the stories about the children who were harmed due to neglect or abuse. I"m a mother myself, and seein gthose types of stories... it just hurts my heart.
It was a good book overall, and I'll definitely read others by him

Summary: Someone has been stealing narcotics from the ER. In the midst of all the normal craziness in the Emergency room, will the staff at Rock Hill Hospital be able to find the culprit behind the missing drugs?

My thoughts: In this book, I really noticed that there was an overarching story going through the little snippet stories told throughout. The continuous plot was the missing narcotics… who was taking them and why? And of course, Dr. Lesslie still describes many situations/people that come in to the ER throughout this drug investigation. I thought this made the book even more interesting than some of his other books that seemed like just individual stories.
There’s one story in the book that makes me so sad a little girl dies because her father was spreading powder to kill bugs in their yard, but she was following him and he didn’t realize it, and enough ended up in her body that she died. He wasn’t being careless or abusive… he was simply trying to work on his lawn. I can’t imagine the guilt and grief he must have felt when his daughter drew her final breath. It was an accident, although an accident directly related to him and his actions.
Because Dr. Lesslie was an ER doctor, there are a lot of difficult and disgusting situations he had to deal with, along with the funny stories. So if you are a bit squeamish like me, you may find the needles and explanations of medical procedures to be a little too much information. Personally, I found this book was okay. There were a few needle descriptions that I didn't like but even that was manageable for me.
I found this book very interesting because you never know what will happen next in the ER. I was surprised when the person stealing the narcotics was caught; I never would have thought it was them. Overall, this was a really interesting book; it might even be my favourite by Dr. Lesslie!

If you have any interest at all in medicine and what goes on behind the scenes, what it truly means to work in the medical field, I highly recommend any of the books written by Robert Lesslie.

In this book, Dr. Lesslie focuses on his time in the E.R., where medical staff see people at their most vulnerable, looking to them for help and compassion, which they dole out in immense quantities. Working in the E.R. takes a special kind of person, one who is able to focus while attending to life-threatening situations, who can hide their own emotions when seeing horrific things that can - and do - happen to the human body, while still being soft enough to hold a child's trembling hand, to comfort a frightened loved one, and to do what needs to be done in the moment, putting their own needs on hold.

They truly are angels, as noted in the title.

I really loved this book! It was very interesting and kept me wanting to read more. One of my favorite things about it was how the stories were interwoven into more stories. I thought that made it really unique and made each story feel connected in a really interesting way.

I also really enjoyed reading about the different experiences in the ER and the people involved in them. There were so many interesting moments throughout the book, and I liked seeing how each story unfolded. Overall, this was a really enjoyable read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys medical stories, true stories, and books with lots of different stories woven together.

Let me start with a great thank you to all doctors and nurses!
An epic, inspirational book that paints a real-life view of the situations faced in the emergency room, the doctors and nurses that handle them and the patients who are treated. Some of the stories are sickening, combatted by the grace of God shown through men and woman who strive to save life. Makes you appreciate all you have. This book is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, freeze in horror and smile all in one page!

Outstanding author! His writing is so accurate of life in one of the most difficult hospital units. I could not put Angels in the ER (volume 1 and 2) down. This book was no different. I have tried to find all of his books, but having trouble. He was a mentor, a Christian physician, and a comforter to his patients and their families. I was a 20 year icu nurse and would have loved a preciptorship with him.

I thought the book would be chapters of different short stories (like Chicken Soup books), but I discovered that the book was a continuation of true stories and even a "mystery" involving the same characters. I enjoyed the book more than I thought I would and read it in one day.

I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm enjoying it thoroughly.

One thing that's running through the narrative is the mystery of the disappearing dope. All sorts of hand wringing is going on with people trying to figure out whodunnit. Have you never heard of setting up cameras?? Certainly that's a simple solution no one seems to be thinking of, and it's very frustrating to me.

Even though I was expecting more of a 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' collection of short true stories about 'real' angels in the ER, this book didn't disappoint. With the main thread of narcotics disappearing from the medicine room, it read almost like a mystery, keeping the reader on the edge of her seat. The stories of true life emergencies make a person grateful for the work that doctors and nurses provide in the ER environment, where seconds can make the difference between life and death.

Another quick and great read from Robert D. Lesslie about his work in the ER. This one was especially exciting as it concerned members of the staff more than patients. I like it that his books get right to the point and are always a rapid read. The ER sounds like an exciting place to be if you are bored with your present job.

I was torn between 2 and 3 stars - not because it was a bad book, but just because it was only "good". Some of the stories were interesting, but overall this is just a collection of short stories. I have lukewarm feelings towards it.
