Call me crazy, but I thought a book about speech disorders would be pretty interesting. 🤷‍♀️ I ended up skimming a bit, but I definitely learned a lot and it presented information in a condensed and easy-to-understand way for all knowledge levels.

The book is split into three broad sections: the anatomy of speech, current issues in the field of speech disorders, and finally, relevant personal stories (my favorite). While a variety of disorders are discussed, the ones mentioned the most are aphasia, stuttering, and selective mutism.

Overall, would recommend for anyone with interest in or familiarity with speech disorders.*

*Notes:

-Since it was published in the early 2000s, this book refers to the DSM-IV. However, the DSM-5, the most current edition, has been updated to include Selective Mutism as an anxiety disorder. Therefore, some information cited in this book may be inaccurate or outdated.

-Some evolution presented as fact.
