Fae of Manhattan #3

Forever Wilde

Rate this book
“If you’re determined to think of me as your enemy, so be it. But a heart can crave a villain as much as a hero.”

When Central Park becomes the battleground for a demon onslaught, the fae realms in Manhattan and Los Angeles are thrown into turmoil. But Willow must focus on her own problems, like the fae changeling who wants to take everything from her—including her boyfriend.

As the demonic menace gains strength, long-standing rivalries between fae courts, shifter packs, witch covens, and age-old adversaries must be set aside. And with everyone Willow holds dear at risk from her mysterious double, she'll have to decide if a future with Severn is worth the steep sacrifices—and if she'll accept his ring.

The border between the magical realm and the human one is falling, and the fate of both worlds hinges on her choice.

Forever Wilde is the third book in the Fae of Manhattan series, perfect for paranormal romance fans of Scarlett St. Clair and Zodiac Academy!

It's possible I was born in the wrong time. I've always been drawn to the past, the future, other worlds—basically anywhere but the here and now. I write fantasy to satisfy my nagging curiosity that there is more out there, just beyond the veil.

Until I find a portal through a magical armoire, I'll continue writing romantic fantasies with a touch of darkness and hint of magic.

I'm the author of fantasy romance sagas include The Godkissed Bride series and The Castles of the Eyrie series.

this book pissed me off to no avail. ur telling me you introduced a sexy morally grey enemy to the love interest character in a trilogy and she DOESNT end up with him??? she ends up with the first guy?????? what was the whole point??????????? and then dont even get me started on everything else wrong with this. this book was like trying to desperately fasten every loose end and doing it wrong. simultaneously nothing happened and yet everything happened. really smart to introduce the series-wide Big Bad like 30% through the FINAL BOOK and then for things to start going down at 80%??? super clever, really builds tension and resolves the arc in a thoughtful measured way. marco was pretty much only brought back to conceal the fact that willow hasn’t been a fucking nanny since book 1 and then severn had the AUDACITY to say “what are we going to do with all our free time now that the children have their father back?” like a) willow hasn’t moved into his fucking apartment and b) the children haven’t actually had 2 lines in this book. then willow. WILLOW. hate that bitch oh my GOD. cannot believe this but i was on severn’s side every time. willow was like “wow i can’t believe that he’d be upset that i voluntarily had sex with his arch nemesis. anyway im going to actually throw a hissy fit and consider never forgiving him because he nearly had sex with my doppelgänger who looks identical to me in every single way even though he very quickly realised it wasn’t me and then immediately put a stop to it. that bastard.” this book was just WEIRD and unsatisfying and what a terrible ending to this series and yes i did finish this in less than 48 hours but #teamblackember all the way. evie marceau ill never forgive you for this

The ending to this series I wasn't expecting, but 100% needed.

Also, Severn in this book. The mouth on this man! So dirty and also so romantic.
After spending so much time with Willow, Severn has finally started embracing a more..human outlook on life and how he handles things.
I love the character development that has happened over all three books.

This third and final book was outstanding. I loved this entire series and was left feeling so...completely satisfied.

The writing was fine. It's the plot and characterization that ruined it for me. Spoiler for first two books, I guess.

So you start with book one. the MMC is super toxic. Not that he is starting a relationship with his nanny, that's just romance hand wavey-ness fantasy. No what bothered me was the actual relationship. There are several points where he gets angry and our heroine is scared. It's viscerally described. Again, that alone doesn't make it abusive, but the way these scenes are described, he towers over her, he makes her feel small, and his anger is always when she challenges him or attempts to assert her independence. And in some ways, the MC acknowledges this. She talks about her discomfort and wonders if this relationship will work. (side note, the sex is terrible. No foreplay.

Then we are introduced to a Rival Lover and I think, ohh, it makes sense that this relationship is so awful. It's not an original idea, but we're pulling a ACOTAR. The first love interest is a red herring, I realize and I can get behind that. Except he...isnt.

There are so many abusive scenes. Our MMC had sexual touching with another woman without permission of the MC, tells her it's just how FAE are and gaslights her into not objecting, and then gets super scarily jealous of the MC even thinking about having any kind of contact with someone not him. He'd rather let her die that let her go. That's not sexy. Then, she justifiably leaves him, he continues to harass her, sends her an "apology letter" which is a classic abuser apology, btw (I just love so you much I had to let you die) and then she gets back with him.

Side note: For example, the apology states that he kept information from her because he wanted to protect her, but now he realize that was wrong. Except, he has failed to understand the fundamental of why it was wrong, and why it was wrong is exactly because it was not about protecting her. the entire thing he needed to realize was that it was about control, not protection. Think about it. What would having the information about what happened to her mom, do to the MC? It might cause her to take action that the MMC doesn't think is appropriate or safe. So he controls her by controlling her information intake. It's not about being overprotective, its about not letting her have the autonomy to make her own choices, thinking that he can decide her life better than she can. The arrogant, abusive, and controlling nature of that behavior is never truly acknowledged by him or apologized her.

After that "apology" the nearly first thing he does is ambush her with a proposal. He does not discuss it with her first, and when she asks refuses to explain it, despite having apparently realized it's wrong to keep secrets. Then in front of so many people that she cannot say no, he proposes, ambushing her while she is still recovering and not sure about the relationship. It's just so gross. He continues to infantilize and control her up until the very end.

So yeah, this is romance in the way that fifty shades of gray is romance. The MMC is a classic abuser with few, if any redeeming qualities who never learns to actually respect the MC.

But hey, the writing was competent at least.

series started strong but got weaker as the books went on

Bought all 3 books and read them in a week, however not exactly sure when I started losing interest in the story.

Story started strong but part way through book 2 - when she started having tea with his first wife and talks about thrones and sabatoge and other stuff that was the turning point for me as things started to go down hill after that.

Also who is she supposed to be romancing ember or Wilde-

Started strong but lost interest as the plot went on

What a way to end the series! There’s so many facets to this story that I loved. Marceau wraps up the storyline beautifully, but leaves it open enough to where there *COULD* be additional stories that could be written. That might drive some people bonkers, but I love it because I’m not ready to say goodbye to some of the characters.

Plot gets weaker and more ridiculous as the books go on and this one was the worst of them all. Lots of plot conveniences, and random happenings, not to mention somewhat redundant character interactions, all mish mashed into one book.
