This introductory book attempts to broadly cover the concepts of Reiki, but instead leaves the reader with more questions and a level of skepticism. The author's account of history is later contradicted in the text which makes the founding more of a passed-down anecdote than a researched non-fiction piece. The author covers the first levels of reiki which are overly intuitive and basic. The symbols and level 2 and 3 of reiki are referred to as 'secret' and can only be revealed when someone has paid several hundred dollars. So this isn't really a book about reiki but more advertising the courses. Multi-level marketing anyone?
While this book gives a good overview into Reiki, it's not particularly informative for someone who is seeking in-depth information on using the traditional Usui system. The pictures are lovely and it's well laid out, but it doesn't divulge any information you can't find anywhere on the Internet for free. This is a good book to introduce clients to Reiki, or to see if someone is interested in studying it. It's not a good resource if you are seeking deeper information on use or teaching of Usui Reiki.
This book is giving a straight forward look at Reiki. The beautiful pictures and colorful pages make it more interesting. I've tried to read other Reiki books and got bored because they felt too much like a textbook. I'm enjoying this one as I hope to be attuned soon. I'll be in touch as soon as I am for practice sessions! All For Good though of course!!
I tried to keep an open mind when I read this. The idea of energy transfer is beautiful. However, I must admit that I laughed out loud when it claimed Reiki can increase food's nutritional value. Maybe I'll try it the next time I go for fast food. xD
Tanmaya Honervogt in The Power of Reiki gives an introductory view of this ancient hands on healing energy work. A good book to gain a basic understanding of Reiki and to serve as a reference.
I wasn't thrilled with this book. It's been on my shelf for a long time, and I've just gotten around to reading it. Most of the information in it , I already knew. Some of her information is incorrect (the history of Mikao Usui, for example), which then raised credibility issues for me. I jotted some notes on a couple of pages, so it wasn't a complete loss, but my copy is now for sale.
