This book covers food chains from three different areas: the rivers of South America, the rivers of North America, and the ponds of Europe. The life cycles of the animals within each food chain is featured.

The photographs throughout the book are really nice and make the life cycle of each animal clear and easily understandable. There is a "clue" at the end of each animal's page (in transition to the next animal), hinting at who it's predator is, going up the food chain. At the end of the book is a diagram of what the European pond food chain looks like in the context of the bigger food web that exists.

A look at three river ecosystems and 3-4 of the main organisms in the food web. 1 system is located in the Amazon, 1 in Europe, and 1 in Western North America.

A great introduction to river ecosystems and how the animals in the ecosystem interconnect. I like the variety of locations featured. I just had 1st grade teachers asking me to find resources on 2 of these ecosystems, so this is a timely donation.
