I'm just not sure about this book. It wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't great either. I love bully romances and this felt a little flat to me. More on the childish and selfish side. I understand that they were in high school, but if you're aiming to run your families companies you need to act like you belong there, ya know.
I didn't really connect with the MCs and I think that caused my not really caring for the book. They were enemies and played each other to get that check in the win column. I think they both lost. I didn't feel like they clicked together. Their chemistry was rushed.
I'm * a little * curious to see how book 2 starts (and ends I guess) because of the cliffy... I might start it and give it a go, but will stop if it's more of the same.

War Of Hearts: A Dark Bully High School Romance (Wicked Hearts At War #1) by Mallory Fox
5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow.... This book was sooo good and 🔥.
My first read from this author, and definitely not my last.
Pearl and Seth were AMAZING ! The tension and the attraction between the two of them was MINDBLOWING.
Both are top of their classes.
Pearl wants to prove she deserves to be on top.
Seth, is the alpha male and wants nothing but to prove her wrong.
They hate each other, they are enemies, like their families. You could say they are Romeo & Juliet in our modern day.
The fight has just begun.
Pearl came to Ravenswood to get intel on Seth's family, for her father. She must get close to the hottest guy, a GQ model, Seth.
Only Seth, has his own mission. He wants her from the first moment he laid eyes on her. has a mission of his own. He knows who she is, who her famy is, and he knows exactly why she is at Ravenswood.
I Loved this book. The story was so good written, the action, the characters were so well build. I can't wait to read the next book.

WOW.
Pearl Darlington and Seth Montford are amazing! The tension between the two is HOT. Both are top of their classes and Pearl does everything she can to prove she DESERVES to be where she’s at. Seth, being the alpha male he is, wants nothing but to prove her wrong. Once their families combine Pearl takes a backseat to her fathers company. And the rest is history.
This book ends on a BIG cliffhanger and I’m so glad book two comes out soon so we can see what Seth will do to retaliate against Pearl. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was another breath of fresh air from my typical reads. And who doesn’t love a good bully romance?

I love a good bully with a FMC that just screams daddy issues lol. Pearl is a strong determined young lady who would do anything to make her father proud, so she doesn’t put up much of a fight when he ships her off to a school of his choice. She also agrees to get close to a boy of a rival family.
This book has intrigue, secrets, mystery, and it has angst and lust galore.
I’m onto book 2!!

Im late to the game as always, but daaaamn. The ending of this made me curse out loud, and every time I thought something would smooth out through the rest, something worse would happen. Loved this, and can't wait to dive into the next one!

So much potential (spoilers)
spoilers ahead..
There is so much potential for this story, but it's poorly executed.
The details you'd need to connect with the characters just aren't there. One minute they are at a wedding and the next it's been 3 weeks and back at school... It reads like a rough draft of the story. Also too much talk of business deals for a high school setting. Can they even legally make these moves? Make it college and it would be more believable.
It's advertised as a stepbrother bully romance, but really there is no bullying. Seth seems to be taking care of her almost from the beginning, even though he's plotting behind her back to take over. Then the romance aspect of it was completely missing... All of a sudden they love each other in the end with seemingly no reason behind it. Not one thing that happened in that story would lead me to believe they would love each other.
The cliff hanger almost got me, I'm a little curious to see what happens, but just writing this review reminded me of the first 200 pages and I think I'll pass on book 2.

Love is a dangerous game when the players are too young to understand the rules. Seth and Pearl are caught in the middle of dark cloud. The power of attraction spells heartache for two vulnerable hearts. War of Hearts is a passionate temptation that blends hot romance with dark emotions and captivates from start to finish.
December 22, 2020
The progression of emotions throughout this series is nearly ridiculous .... I almost cannot believe I could keep reading after the first book with how much I felt through those pages... Wouldn't change a thing... Well DONE!

This was great.
Pearl is a girl who has lost a lot of important things in her life. Her dad is kind of pulling the strings, sending her to things that she doesn’t really want to do.
The chemistry between Seth & Pearl burned hot. The cliffy wrecked me and I’m excited for more.

What a great start to a writing career! This book kept me reading one page to to the next. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what was going to happen next! And Seth...in my mind he is just so yummy and perfect! With that ending, I have to read the next book pronto.

Will the Laws Of Attraction Win Out Against Corporate Take Overs
Seth Montford and Pearl Darlington are like a modern day Romeo and Juliet.
Their families are at each other’s throats, enemies determined each to rule over each other, either through a corporate take over or, a merger. Seth’s family has the coin while Pearls family has the assets (but not the cash flow) the Montford’s want.
So, when Pearls girls school (Acadia) has to merge with Seth’s (Ravenswood Prep) the battle lines are set.
Pearls father wants intel, on what Seth’s family are planning so, Pearl’s on a mission is to get close to the moody guy with his GQ model looks. Pearl is feisty and no push over. Her Daddy didn’t raise no fool.... except, when it comes to her heart.
Seth has a mission of his own. He clocked onto Pearl the moment they first laid eyes on each other. He knows the rumours about her, he knows her family, he knows exactly why her father has sent her to Ravenswood.
The attraction they have for each other is mutual and soon sparks (and banter) are flying between the two.
Of course the path of lust and attraction never runs smooth and these two are headed on the path of destruction. Sometimes self inflicted, sometimes caused by the warring family rivalries.
One night. One tragic outcome, throws both their lives into chaos and sets in motion a chain of events that may not be able to be undone.
Loved, loved this book. Seth, was the perfect balance of moody, intelligent, sexy (sometimes confused) bad boy.
Pearl was business smart, snarky, take no prisoners ballsy.
However, her weekness was the always observant Seth. And he ultimately leads to her (almost) downfall. He pushes down her walls, one by one, and she is left emotionally vulnerable.
Love got in both their ways causing them both to take there eyes off the prize as both tried to put moves each other. Personally and professionally.
Can’t wait to start the next instalment five stars

“Ravenwood’s Prep School for Boys. My stomach turns at the sight of the sign for my father’s old school. Grams said it the last time we spoke, that Ravenwood is not a place for becoming a young lady. It’s a school for cock-sucking men, run by, you guessed it, cock-sucking men.”
War of Hearts tore mine into pieces. A twisted storyline with all of the devious and underhanded deals expected from those who lust after power and greed. I loved the characters and how the author exposed them slowly so the reader would feel a real connection to them. I’m looking forward to reading Wicked Hearts for more of their story.
Pearl is being shafted off to her fathers school and the students are unhappy to be accepting females into their domain. She is tormented by them, but it’s Seth Montford who has her in his radar. Her father wants her to get closer to Seth so she can gain insight into the heir of Montford International. Daddy is a misogynist, dismisses her requests to study business and he forgot to mention his upcoming nuptials.
Seth has his eye on Pearl Darlington the heiress of Darlington Estates. There is a family feud between them and his family are in the midst of a takeover with her father. She has a reputation of a heartbreaker, but Seth is shrewd and pulls her into his web. His grandfather is guiding the ship that can only float or sink. Pearl gets under Seth’s skin though and he presents her with a contract which is legitimate but will uncover just how ruthless these people can be.

This one is a super hott step brother high school Bully romance.
Pearl and Seth are from rival families and are now attending the same school. They both have the goal of watching each other and finding dirt on the other. Pearl's father also tells her to get what she can on Seth and get close to him. Seth is interested in breaking the heart breaker and buying something she hasn't given up yet to anyone.
They both try to play the game and each one claims to give something but they're holding back. They both have reservations and don't fully trust each other....which is a good thing.
However, they don't count on falling for the other or having the other mean something to them.
When tragedy strikes, all they can do is be there for each other and get lost in each other. But, where does that leave the company and what happens with the contract?
There is a lot of angst and a decent amount of steam in this one. There is tragedy, heart break, loneliness, scheming, manipulation, all the good stuff in this one. The ending hurt to read. They do things without thinking of the consequences first and don't realize that by hurting each other they are hurting themselves too.
I love Pearl and Seth and their story. Starting book immediately! This was a first by Mallory Fox for me and I'll definitely read more!

'Fuck. I want him. And I don’t have a clue why.'
War of Hearts by Mallory Fox
War of Hearts is the first book in the Wicked Hearts at War series by Mallory Fox. I am attending the London RARE event later this year and I thought I would start reading from more of the authors that are attending. So I thought I would start with Mallory, and I'm so glad I did!
“Because if you want me to fuck you just to screw over your father, I will. Just say the word.”
Just from the cover and the blurb I was excited for this book and from the first couple of chapters I was hooked. I loved the concept of this book, a bully romance? Yes please. I found out that this is a novella so this is the backstory for the MCs and really sets up the rest of the series.
'Fuck the deal. I’ll give Pearl the world if it means she’ll come back and sass my ass again.'
This had a great storyline that keeps me gripped until the end! And there is some get character and world building. I found Pearl to be such a sassy, strong-willed, guarded FMC and as the story developed she really opened up right up until the end. I also adored charming yet cunning and protective Seth, the way he acted and spoke was 😘
I am already onto the next one especially after that ending I needed to know what happens next!

Oh Pearl and Seth. The Romeo and Juliet of today. Pearl is a brilliant senior who switches schools to an all boys school which won’t allow girls. She is being groomed (she thinks) to take over her fathers company seeing as she’s the only heir. Her mother has passed away taking a piece of pearl that she’ll never get back. She knows going to this school is going to be tough. Even tougher is the favor her dad asks her for. ‘Get close to Seth Montford’
Seth is the big man on campus. He owns his previously all boys school. He is the most eligible bachelor and model entering his senior year. He has one quest, get information on Darlington (Pearls family) so he’s able to help his family business. Seth always gets what he wants. Only problem with both of their ideas is that their parents are about to get married and throw a real wrench in the mix.
The development of Pearl and what she goes through fills you with sadness, angst, excitement and downright mourning.
This book was amazing, it kept me wondering what was going to happen with each page flip, the ending about gutted me and I need the next installment to see what happens with these two. You will not be sorry you read this! Hats off to Miss Mallory :)

What a rollercoaster! This is Book 1 of the Wicked Hearts at War series, my first by this author. And while it is billed as a dark high school bully romance, it is so much more. Pearl and Seth are at the top of the food chain in an elite boarding/prep school, each with their own minions following closely behind them. Pearl has a reputation for pulling boys in and then stomping on their hearts. Seth has a reputation for his taste in older women. Both are being used by their families in an intense game of corporate espionage. Now, let me tell you about these characters... Seth is the quintessential broody rich kid with a chip on his shoulder. And while he is shrewd, we see his vulnerability begin to shin through as the story progresses. Pearl was harder for me to like. In the beginning, there is a very pretentious rich bitch air about her, but eventually her walls come down as well and you get to see the girl inside. There is a lot of angst and tension built-up between the main characters and it kept my interest right up until the very end. Beware - this does end in a cliffhanger. But there is so much promise for how this story will play out in the future that you'll be waiting on pins and needles for the next installment.

So, this was an interesting read. It starts off strong but I feel like it went really off base? The relationship between Seth and Pearl seemed incredibly rushed, with parts that felt like they were missing. The world building felt like it wasn’t really done, one second they’re at school and the next they never go back, never to have their friends mentioned again. The concept was so strong if it had really been just a stepbrother dark romance at a boarding school.
Pearl seemed like she was going to the be the baddest, strongest bitch, but she just didn’t come across like that at all. Seth was sort of double crossing her, but he also wasn’t a bully? Again, the relationship was super rushed that it didn’t feel satisfying when they finally got together. Too much talk about the business and we have no idea why things are happening like they are.
The ending leaves you intrigued but at the same time, like? Super rushed.
Possible spoiler:
I think the car and the deaths were way too easy of an out. I think I’ll read the next one only to figure out what the hell this book was going for.

I am devastated with how this book ended and I will say that it is a GOOD thing. I am a glutton for emotional trauma apparently and this book delivered that to me on a silver platter.
Pearl and Seth are heirs to rival companies and that makes them enemies. When Pearl ends up attending the academy that Seth attends, they engage in a game of lies and deceit where the winner is almost certainly going to end up losing.
This was a solid 4 star read for me and it went by way too fast. I felt like once things started happening, they didn’t stop happening until your left staring at your kindle, mind reeling, wanting more. The chemistry and sexual tension between the two main characters are off the chart. Add in the enemies AND the forbidden stepbrother tropes and you have one angsty read.
I can’t wait to see how the story of Pearl and Seth plays out.
*trigger warning - sexual assault(not by the main character)

Someone call me a doctor I need to be resuscitated!
.
What a ride!
.
That was intense. That is Not how I expected that to go. At all. A stepbrother romance with a twist. A battle of wills and supremacy. Who will prevail in the end? Caught in the middle of families at war. Uncertainty of what’s wrong and right! There’s no guessing or predicting what will happen next. This book has you guessing from the first page. Right off the bat hitting you with surprise twists, petty drama that escalated and a plot that will have you chomping at the bit for more.
.
This book was packed with so much and yet still more to come. How will we recover? I know for certain I’m shookth and it’s only book 1. Great characters with a combustible and intense chemistry that has the pages sizzling. A great world build with believable setting and vivid realism.
.
There is so much more I could say about this book but I don’t want to reveal spoilers! So read this book! You will not regret it!!

War of Hearts is one very wicked ride! There is so much intrigue, lies, shady deals, and heartbreak that you can’t even anticipate what will happen next. You think it will happen one way and out of left field the next part is revealed. The emotions feel all to real and you don’t know what to react to first. I highly recommend reading War of Hearts. It will rock you and bring out so many different emotions. If only Seth and Pearl didn’t have their families constantly trying to influence them their love might have stood a chance. Seth once promised Pearl that he would punish her if she didn’t listen to him. He promised shame, humiliation, pain, and regret. Pearl believes that Seth knew what he was doing and that he was delivering what he promised her. When she realizes how she feels and what her actions had set in motion she killed what could have been a HEA but now it is all ashes. The ending is surprising and will leave you wanting to read the next book. If only.....regrets.

This book was a great fairly quick read. Pearl had to change schools when her school was closing down. Her dad got her accepted into his old school Ravenwood where his business rivals son attended. Pearl was given orders from her father to get close to Seth she just didn’t know what his purpose was until later. Seth decides to get close to Pearl in order to try and get information about her company. The whole time they are trying to get information on one another they are fighting an attraction and chemistry that is off the charts. Seth plays lots of games with Pearl to try and get her to break. The constant push and pull leaves you guessing what will happen next. This book does end in a cliffhanger but it is so well worth the read. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what will happen with Seth and Pearl.

Pearl's the true hero for me in this one.
First off, I didn't know this one ends on a sort of cliffy so there's book 2 where the story will continue. I was totally on fence about this one, till about half of the book after which I was glued and hooked on.
In this book, the only person I really felt for is pearl and liked a bit is her lawyer Sullivan.
But Seth, nah, still not anywhere liking him even after what happens in the end. I don't really blame pearl for what she does, given the fact that throughout the book just about everyone is trying to take advantage of her or try to teach her a lesson. Even her father doesn't really care about her. So for me, the real hero of this story is only pearl.
If you truly want a hero to hate, then you're gonna love to hate Seth in this one.

An overall OK book. As a dark romance not so dark. As a bully romance..... It lacked a lot of sustenance tbh.
The MMC is Seth, the heir to the Mountford inheritance.
The MFC is Pearl, the sole inheritance of Darlington Estate.
We start the book with Pearl having to start new schools. A first for Ravenwood as its always been a boys school but this term its let in girks. Approx 20 of them.
This was prime meat for bullying storylines but wasn't taken advantage of.
We knew that Seth "ruled" the school, but it wasn't really explained how - except to be able to walk out of classrooms whenever they liked. Seth had 2 sidekicks which we never really explore more than a vague description. Again feels like missing great opportunities for branches of storylines.
It felt solely about the 2 characters which is OK but when it was JUST these 2 and very rarely anyone else... It got a little.... Well... I started to skim read ☹️
I felt great shock and very defensive of Seth with the nasty trick Pearl decided to pull but we'll see how it turns out....
Steamy wise.... It was OK. YA acceptable I guess!!
Gonna keep reading unless it gets to the point I really can't!

The blurb doesn't gives this book enough justice.
I've got the chance to read the trilogy in one go and I recommend that you do too as the story is not easily to break apart. The action is almost non-stop so you will be left with big cliff-hangers and to be honest the best parts are not in the first book.
As for the story itself, it is about 2 complicated and rich families that get united by a short lived marriage. A love marriage that just like in Romeo and Juliet is not desired by the "elder" of the family and that is bound to repeat itself in the next generation of step-siblings.
The story is about their hate-love relationship starting in college and spanning a few years during witch a lot of deals, misunderstandings, attacks, and a lot more happen before what we expect to be the final happy ending. The voyage is great for those that like a bit of a darker romance (just a bit).

It was good...BUT... I have to admit I was confused a lot of the time. I feel like the author has a great story but it was written too quickly and some additional detail and angst should’ve been added. While I like the chemistry between the characters, I never really felt like they LOVED one another. I think there should have been more intimate/angsty scenes between the two. I just didn’t feel like the story flowed smoothly from hating one another to really liking one another. It was just cold, then warm...then fizzled with the cliffy. I’m now on the 2nd book but find myself skimming a lot. Not sure I really like Pearl...she’s kind of a B and I can’t see Seth’s appeal to her other than him physically saying it. I don’t “feel” it. 😔

I would not compare this to Chuck & Blair from gossip girl or even Cruel Intentions. I love Bully Romance, one of my favorites to read but this was just meh
I am used to strong as hell, take no shit Heroes and Heroines as these 2 just fell short. I hated the time jumps in this story. We miss key moments in the development of this relationship. This lacked so much chemistry & sweet moments that I didn't even care about the characters to be honest. I love starting books series because I love when they continue & we dive deeper but honestly I don't even want to read the other books.
The time jumps are huge issues for me. It would be different if it wasn't moments that were important & that we should have seen but they were.
