Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (1898–1993) was a minister and author (most notably of The Power of Positive Thinking) and a progenitor of the theory of "positive thinking".

Peale was born in Bowersville, Ohio. He graduated from Bellefontaine High School, Bellefontaine, Ohio. He has earned degrees at Ohio Wesleyan University (where he became a brother of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta) and Boston University School of Theology.

Raised as a Methodist and ordained as a Methodist minister in 1922, Peale changed his religious affiliation to the Reformed Church in America in 1932 and began a 52-year tenure as pastor of Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan. During that time the church's membership grew from 600 to over 5000, and he became one of New York City's most famous preachers.

This is my favorite book of this type. I have turned to it many times for comfort, inspiration, or simply a reason to get up in the morning. One can easily ignore the sad chapters, or read them as needed.
Peter Marshall (the preacher, not the game show host) has the best few pages I have ever read on the subject of prayer.
There are wonderful quotes from a varied crowd - Emerson, Mark Twain, Scriptures and unknowns who had something useful, helpful and timeless to say.
If I could only keep one of my books of inspiration, and encouragement, it would be "Treasury of Courage and Confidence."

This is my favorite book too. I have been keeping it for a long time at home. It is a book of wisdom and encouragement. It will uplift you and gives you the positivity in life when you are down. Must read. However, lately it was gone and eaten by the pests none other than the termites. So I would love to have an e-book of this which I can keep safe here with me wherever I go and I wouldn't have to worry for it to be lost and eaten again.

One of the first books I read when young. Tremendous power and guidance. It is an anthology and can be read in any order - intelligence of centuries condensed in a book.

Have started to re-read. Can't find a bigger font version though - would be easier to read/mark.
