Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (1898–1993) was a minister and author (most notably of The Power of Positive Thinking) and a progenitor of the theory of "positive thinking".

Peale was born in Bowersville, Ohio. He graduated from Bellefontaine High School, Bellefontaine, Ohio. He has earned degrees at Ohio Wesleyan University (where he became a brother of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta) and Boston University School of Theology.

Raised as a Methodist and ordained as a Methodist minister in 1922, Peale changed his religious affiliation to the Reformed Church in America in 1932 and began a 52-year tenure as pastor of Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan. During that time the church's membership grew from 600 to over 5000, and he became one of New York City's most famous preachers.

Basically this book will teach you how a positive mind will be able to achieve things that a person who has a negative mind have. Aside from the inspirational words given by Norman Vincent Peale, he also sited examples of some known and even unknown people in the society.

I just finished another "life-altering" book from Dr. Peale. This time around, we find him talking about how each of us can better our lives if we would only tap into the "plus factor"... That invisible something that is present within each one of us. It is a power - latent in nature - that God has given each of us, and leaves it up to us to discover & awaken it.

As a Bosconian, the title brings to mind a saying that St. John Bosco was fond of telling his boys, "Do your ordinary duties extraordinarily well". Going that extra mile in all you do will pay off. God will be happy because you're making the most out of what he gave you, and the people around you will look up to you because you're excelling.

BTW, if you're not familiar with Dr. Peale's work, let me tell you right now that the book is Christcentric. This means that he writes with a Christian point-of-view. A lot of Bible verses, praying, etc. Being a Methodist Pastor, it comes with the territory. So if you're not a religious person, or of a different religion (or none), this may not be your cup-o'-tea.

That being said, if you can look past the religious content, there are nuggets of wisdom that can be applied by everyone.

It's okay It's talking about the Good Lord, Dreams and Accomplishments, but every thought that comes into my mind defeats the purpose of trying anything.
