Rate this book
Frank Frazetta has excelled in a wide variety of artistic formats, from fine art to paperback covers, comic books to record albums. His atmospheric worlds of sinewy superheroes, seductive sirens, and vivid monsters are wonderfully detailed, fully realized, and unmistakably his. This book gives fans an intimate glimpse of Frazetta's creative process by showcasing not only black-and-white and full-color drawings from his sketchbooks, but concept art as well, showing the artist's raw imagination and problem-solving skills. Frank Frazetta: Rough Work
(More pictures at parkablogs.com)

Rough Work is the sketchbook for Frank Frazetta (wiki).

Right at the start is a biography of Frank Frazetta, a background of his life and career. The rest of the book is a collection of his sketches and concept art. They are created with different medium. He's the legend in fantasy art and the illustrations, even though rough, shows. There are lots of drawings on warriors and women, which is his specialty.

It's a very simple sketchbook and should appeal to fans.

Hmm. I love Frazetta's work. I really do. His completed work, that is. These rough sketches are, well, a bit too rough even for me. If you're a fantasy art completist, you'll have to own this, but if you can afford the higher price it's probably a better idea to look for something like Icon, Testament: The Life and Art of Frank Frazetta or Legacy: Paintings and Drawings by Frank Frazetta.

You have to have something of Frazetta on your shelf, even if it is budget-Frazetta.

Undeniably interesting. It gave me an insight on who Frank Frazetta was and how he's represented still in his work even after his death. A true artist.

Do you have something better to do than to look at some Frank Frazetta sketches and color roughs? If so, let everyone know so they can have some fun, too.

Frazetta is just incredible. I've been a fan for decades and there is a lot of things in this book I'd never seen before. Top quality printing, too. Highly recommend this.

Chockful of Frank Frazetta's concept work for some of his most popular paintings. A must-have for fans of this great artist and a perfect window to how his creativity works -- from sketch to final masterpiece. An added bonus is a ton of first-time published sketches, doodles and pictures of his actual sketchpads!

Very interesting book for fantasy art and Frazetta fans. This is not a didactic book, but focuses on presenting Frazetta pre-art and sketches, composition studies, and has citations from his partners and how he used to work, as well as curiosity about his life. A complementary - and welcome - material about Frazetta's life and art.

Even in this rough work, Frazetta's genius comes through. The energy and motion and dynamics that every piece conveys ... the beautiful women begging to be ravished ... the warriors to fight by your side ... the demons to destroy ... it's amazing.

I have no doubt Frazetta was a great artist, but it seems all he ever drew were naked women cowering behind absurdly strong men.
