That ending! This volume was where this story really hit its stride - delving into the death of Anya's mother, Miguel's past, and giving Anya and Amun common ground - but by the end I still felt like there were unanswered questions. The last ten pages were absolutely riveting as Anya confronted Jade and made some really tough decisions. Unfortunately those decisions just led to more unanswered questions. I know Anya's story was continued in Spider-Girl, but I don't think these storylines were picked up again, which is a shame. Still, I'll be continuing to read anything I can find starring Anya.
I was not at all familiar with this character before picking up these three digests. I think she has a ton of potential, but I feel like this series never really got off the ground. The backstory is convoluted and tends to clog up the momentum. Still, I'm glad this isn't the last we see of her.
What a mess! I can tell by the stars given to this book that people loves the character of Anya, but this is not a good comic. I cannot tell if it is the plotting or the graphic art, but in many sequences it is very hard to know what is going on. And when you do, it is not that exciting. The whole series of Araña gets "wrapped up" in a Spider-man /Araña one shot http://www.spiderfan.org/comics/revie... which is marginally better, and by a different author. The next Spider-girl seriesSpider-Girl, Vol. 1: Family Values is better (although they didn't need to kill her father!). But the TRUE spider-girl is May Parker!Spidergirl Marvel Monster #2
