This cookbook really did meet and probably went above and beyond what I expected out of it. I suffer from a mild case of Crohn's and finding food that is not upsetting can be hard when I am flaring. Bulletproof, I have come to find out is a sort of movement, way of thinking, way of life for many. My hubby is hooked on Bulletproof coffee, so when I had the chance to try out the cookbook I jumped at the chance! I cannot say I share my hubby's infinity for the coffee, but I trust his judgement. So far I've tried the Perfect Parchment-Baked Salmon, the Swiss Chard with Fennel Salt and the Broccoli and Leek Soup! They were all HUGE hits! I have two sons (ages 9 and 7) who are very adventurous eaters and my hubby is happy with whatever I whip up. So it was fun to introduce new foods and watch them get excited by it. I cannot wait to dive into more recipes and break up the weekly menu of the old stand-bys with new and fun meals. 4 stars
I have decided to try to this diet with my boyfriend and will write a full review after a while when we can actually see if what we've both read has worked. From a reading perspective it was very interesting however and easy to follow. A lot of important aspects that I think a lot of us look over is covered in this book and I think it's important everyone reads it to understand exactly what they put in their body in today society.
The introduction is only about 60 pages long (the rest is recipes) so it's only really a day's sit down to read it. Highly recommend.
"Based on what evidence" was what I was thinking when I was reading the book. It could have done with lists of sources for his claims, some of which shows his lack of knowledge about certain subjects. GMO springs to mind immediately. It would be really useful if the author had provided sound reasoning and evidence for his assertions other than "Toxins bad" (we know this) and "Hey, it felt good to eat this thing" (Fair, I eat things that feel good too) and "Hey buy my stuff, buy all the Bulletproof stuff"... Jus' sayin'...
It really felt like a glorified ad for his bulletproof products. Which is fine, if that is what it is. I gave it two stars because it does have recipes in it, and he does recommend some things that are accurate, such as eating organic and local. Other than that, not really worth getting, get a proper cook book like "Feeding Hannibal" instead. It will be much more satisfying.
Some really good recipes in here to stay bulletproof and excellent guidelines and suggestions. Not all the recipes are a favorite of mine but currently my family has enjoyed the ribs, cupcakes, chili and pork belly recipes.
Several good recipes and pointers. Many recipes would fall under the “pretty complicated” category. Dave Asprey’s persistence for perfection is evident.
As do many cookbooks, this has beautiful pictures and easy to follow recipies. However, these recipies are not only pleasing to the eye and the palette but provide the body with a "bulletproof" powerhouse of nutrition. I made the Perfect Parchment Salmon which I served with the Coconut Creamed Spinach. Absolutely delicious and I felt like a gourmet.
