Fortunate are children for whom the early reading years coincide with their first -- elementary school level -- attempts to figure out how their world works. For visual or artistic children, learning about the colors of the SPRING season is a special treat.

So much creativity has gone into ths book. That's evident right from Page 5, where kids are given an overview of colors through a cleverly photoshopped pinwheel.

Then each color is named as an example, rather than as an abstraction. Some of the highlights here are:

* ORANGE Ice, displaying a popsicle.

* YELLOW Duckling. And who doesn't love that cute little animal, all the way down to the very vulnerable webbed feet.

* Blue Pool. Complete with four eager young swimmers, cute as they can be.

FIVE STARS for a book that's like gold. Golden learning for young readers and lovers of spring and, maybe even, artists.
