A Dangerous Liaison Facing financial ruin, Lord Clayton Clearbook inherits his uncle's fortune with the stipulation that he must marry within three weeks – an opportunity he dare not refuse. Not many weddings in the ton are based on love, after all, and a bride of convenience would suit Clayton perfectly. Knowing time is of the essence, he sets his sights on Miss Briana Garland, a bluestocking who has adored him since childhood But to Clayton's dismay, the lady shuns his advances. Though Briana still has feeling for the handsome lord, she has vowed never to marry. Besides, she has other things on her mind, namely taking part in a secret mission to break up an assassination attempt on the Prince Regent! However, her rejection does not stop Lord Clayton. And as he intensifies his pursuit of her the lady finds herself falling in love...and in more jeopardy then she ever bargained for.
The first book was the story of Emily, the only girl with 4 older brothers. Next was the story of the youngest brother Stephen. Now this book tells the story of Clayton the 3rd of the 4 brothers. At the beginning the story flashes back to six years earlier when Bree was 16 and Clayton was 20 and she had a major crush on him even though he didn't seem to notice his little sister's friend. It was a fun way to start the story. A lot had happened over those six years, mostly because of the war. I loved the relationship shown between the siblings. I was able to see more of Emily and Stephen's stories.
I think Clay was my favorite brother to read about. Bree was great too. I definitely rolled my eyes at their . . . idiot-ness though. They were clueless to the other's feelings for them because of their own pride and insecurities. This third book followed the same order of things from the first two books, but I didn't mind. It was such a joy to read!
This is the third book in the series and follows Lord Clayton and Lady Briana. While I enjoyed the story and characters, I don’t think I liked it quite as much as the first two books. I’m not sure why. Briana had a childhood crush on Clayton. Years later they are reunited when Clayton is in desperate need of a wife. In order to inherit an old castle with loads of money he must marry in three weeks. I’m all for marrying for love, but I was a little surprised his family was so against him marrying for convenience. I doubt any of them would have been so quick to give up so much money, especially when it would go to an unlikable relative. Anyway, the overall story was cute and I liked the characters.
Decisions Decisions!! I couldn't make up my mind between 2.5 stars and 3 stars. The story has to much angst between the H/H. The storyline is a cookie cutter just like the previous 2 books. I think the author uses an outline and just changes the names of the characters and changes a few of the scenarios in the story to give the illusion of a different story However, they are all the same story even down to the type of villain in the stories. This one really is lacking in any sort of romance. This author never writes sexual nor sensual sense in her books and I don't mine that but a little heat and romance between the couple would have gone a long way. I finally decided on 3 stars because of the one central character in all the books Aunt Agatha. The petite chubby old lady who is a spy for Whitehall. She is just fabulous and she is so funny. Her and that parasol of hers. There is also Nigel the dog who always makes an appearance in the stories. He is pretty funny too. Then we have the chubby 3 year old baby Gabrielle who I felt I could pluck off the pages of the book and hug and kiss. She really comes through in the story. Adorable!!!
"Ugh. No explanations for why Briana's sister is killed. No true explanation for Kingsdale's obsession, except that he is crazy. No good comes to the innocent and deceived. Last chapter was completely unnecessary and made supposedly brilliant Briana into a simpering idiot. ****Spoiler Summary**** Clayton needs to marry in three weeks to inherit, decides on intelligent Briana, who had a school girl crush on him. Briana's father passed away after her sister dies when she was kicked out for being in a delicate situation, thus Briana no longer trusts men, refuses Clayton's offer. But while tracking a lead for Whitehall at a house party, ends up in a compromising situation with Clayton and becomes his wife. Misunderstandings abound, Clayton leaves, she is almost killed by a crazy former admirer, Clayton arrives to save her just in time. HEA!"

Lord Clayton Clearbrook is left a substantial sum of money and a broken down castle from his essentric uncle. Unfortunately for the man, there is a catch to securing it. Marry in three weeks! Of course this sends Clayton into a tailspin, but he doesn't plan to lose this new found wealth. Miss Briana Garland is a young woman who is determined to love the women that society casts aside. She is bookish, intriguing and is an asset for Whitehall. What man would look twice at her? Yep, you guessed it! Clayton has known Briana since they were children, but is only discovering now just how beautiful and captivating she is.
I'm again impressed by the author' sense of humor, it's great! Between his little niece's innocent antics, the aunt's attempt to keep Clayton in line and the girl he wants to marry I feel quite sorry for the man. He just can't win with them around but they sure keep him in line. He turns out to be very compassionate, caring and loving, in fact all one would want in a husband. Briana learns to come out of her shell and start believing that there can be good in some men. She learns to allow herself to love again. A beautifully written romantic historical novel with just the right amount of everything to keep it interesting and easy to read.
Not a bad book, but it lost my attention after I had to put it down for something else. When I got back to it, the formulaic and obviousness of them getting together bored me. I read most of it, then skipped to the end to verify if the obvious bad guys were bad or not. They were. Not bad, but not worth a re-read.
Love the new characters. I wish they would have up play the love scenes it needed a little more description. I love the elderly aunt her personality brought humor and life to the story. Emily her ability to make things happen was phenomenal.
