Relic CyberTitans have risked everything to save the human females they could and join forces in the safety of a deep, underground bunker. With Solcrue hunting them from the skies, the Titans are running out of time.
Rhee I’ve hated cyborgs my entire life, that is until Redline rescued my friends and me after our crash landing on their planet. Our recent escape from the Solcrue ship in orbit above nearly failed when we were captured. But freedom isn’t free, and I’ve found myself in another bunker, this time in the depths of the rocky planet.
I’m surrounded by damaged CyberTitans from a battle I didn’t see. It is utter cybernetic chaos.
When I try to help, I’m shoved aside by a massive unit that strains to bring light back to darkened Titans. I think he’s like an AED—a power unit that charges cyborgs. He’s rude and brash as he pushes us out of his way. But in his eyes is desperation every time a CyberTitan refuses to wake. His anger flares when he fails, and he must be dragged away by others to attempt a jumpstart on a different unit.
His humanity crushes my hatred and draws out new emotions I never thought I’d associate with a cyborg.
Rebel, the Titans’ medic, wants me to clean the monster when he’s done all he can do. I scrubbed and repaired engines for the Solcrue and regret saying so when I offered to assist. But Diesel has secrets only I can uncover. Beneath his brutish frame, bossy attitude, and physically controlling mannerisms, he has a need he refuses to address. All it takes is the right touch, and everything about him changes.
Diesel isn’t like the others. He needs me .
Diesel I have lost many brothers in this war. The humans should have made me a medic, not a lumbering power unit that isn’t fast enough to get to the others in time. We don’t have the right tools to save those who protected our hideout, so we’re stuck improvising.
Rebel is smart. But he and I are not enough to save everyone. Redline may have rescued more females that try to help, but they only get in our way.
I block out the agony of my injuries and focus on helping those I can, but I’m weary and low on energy. In the blur of it all, I don’t realize how much I’ve tanked. When I wake again, I’m confronted by a small, angry female with dark eyes and curves that power me up in a single breath.
She is all I want, the only one for me. I know it the moment I see her just like Mother Besha said we would.
Except, Rhee's pissed.
I don’t remember what I did, but I must make things right. She repaired me, had her hands all over me. I want—need—her like nothing I’ve encountered before. I have to fix this, but doing so might mean exposing my darkest secrets.
Whatever it takes. I hope she understands. Rhee must be mine. ***A fast-paced, one-love, HEA steamy romance with intimacy, violence, and cursing. Hunted Relics 0: Amp 1: Savage 2: Redline 3: Diesel 4: Chaos 5: Fury 6: Rebel 7: Craze 8: Thruster 9: Menace
Diesel is the third sci-fi book in the Hunted Relics series, where humans are the lower class and Titans are used and abused by a race that takes what it wants and spits everything else out. Resistance is the only way to bring them to their knees, and that means uniting machines and humans. If only they could keep everyone safe.
Beneath their tough exterior lies a big-hearted man more human than machine, who would do anything to keep her safe. I genuinely enjoyed it.
The saving grace of this was Diesel and all the world building details scattered throughout.
Otherwise, I would have skimmed through. I only planned to read as much as necessary to be able to follow the next part of the series. But the details scattered throughout were sooo good.
Pity the FMC was so unlikeable. Her story arc also had too many holes. She’s an engineer, but fails to study up on what and how, regarding those she considers machines and hates?
She takes no interest in learning her own peoples history, and despite strong reasons it would be remembered by others, isn’t? She lives as an orphan among other humans, but their children don’t repeat what their parents would surely have told them, and would still be recent and memorable?
She blames an entire race for the acts of one, but doesn’t hate human’s who have hurt her on countless occasions, by countless people?
She seems to look down her nose at the other humans, takes care of herself first and foremost, but then we later learn of human friends…?
There are several other contradictions, but you get the idea. Either she’s truly reprehensible, or the author missed quite a bit this time around.
While her story is heartbreaking, her selfish and cruel hate makes her ugly early on, and then her dramatic flip … doesn’t fit. You can’t portray someone so determined to ignore anything that doesn’t fit their worldview, then have them change overnight.
Diesel has just as many reasons to be angry, even hate, yet when presented with conflicting info, makes an effort, despite having a much longer history of trauma.
Then there are the inappropriate sex scenes, at the most ridiculous moments.
My least fav. Good thing this wasn’t first, or I’m not sure I would have continued the series, despite the amazing word, and excellent Sci Fi story.
Still love this series, but this one was overall a flop for me.
Rhee, the female human lead, is from a people that initially sided with the current enemy and were then functionally betrayed. She has learned to hate Titans like Diesel, the male cyborg lead, who were their enemy at the time and who killed her family. Diesel is one of the very few cyborgs who has retained some of his human memories and memories of his previous cyborg forms and this has left him depressed and occasionally suicidal; his support for his brother cyborgs is the only thing that keeps him going.
When they meet in a medical setting, where Diesel is trying to jumpstart cyborgs and slowly wearing himself out, Rhee pushes him aside as an actual technician with skills. They offend each other mightily but there’s a real attraction present, even as they’re fighting it. Can they get past their histories of trauma? And will the tasks to be completed to start succeeding against their enemy allow them a chance?
This story is dual POV, well written, and a true standalone in the series, with the world building thorough enough that previous stories are unnecessary (though enjoyable) but not repetitive. I empathised with the trauma that both characters were carrying and appreciated the slow way they revealed themselves to each other. I enjoyed Rhee’s determination to contribute what she could, even if she wasn’t happy with the circumstances she was in. I enjoyed Diesel’s grudging gradual acceptance that he did want Rhee, and his pursuit of her. I liked the way they moved from enemies to lovers. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
Diesel is one of the oldest Cybertitans left and he is tired, so tired. He fears he is at the end of his preprogrammed life. But he’s not ready to give up on his brothers yet. Sometimes his “energy” is the only thing that brings his brothers back to life when they have been injured. No other Cybertitan has this ability. When he see’s one on the new rescues working on one of his fallen brothers, he is furious and is rude and mean to her! That is his job and he will die trying to save every last one!
Rhee has been a slave of the Solcrue most of her life. She works as a mechanic on their ship as is darn good at it, not that they ever acknowledge it. When the opportunity to escape comes, she takes it and steals an escape pod and shoots to the planet below. She is rescued by the Cybertitans and taken back to the base. When she see’s the injured warriors come in, she knows she can help to fix them, if the Cybertitans will trust her. But she has a dilemma because she has hated Titans her whole life after they killed her entire planet and destroyed the ship she lived on. But could her young memories be faulty? And what’s with the huge Titan that is a total jerk and can’t seem to stand her?
A great journey through a lot of deep emotions. These two need each other, but can they ever get past their prejudices? A great book.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about an older MMC without there being the usual semi creepy age gap stuff going on. It actually occurred as realistic to me that he was so tired of dying, and supporting everyone else, and watching others die.
This series is definitely making me wonder about this,
“They made humans into machines, then gave them human characteristics. I wonder if it was to make us more comfortable with them or them more comfortable with themselves.”
Why would we make cyborgs resemble us so much? I'm not sure but it feels like exactly what we would do. And then be terrified and hateful towards them.
I appreciated this acknowledgement of how privilege works. The MFC has a different background than the other human women and made sure to use that difference to get herself a slightly “better” job.
“You think you earned yourself favor with the Solcrue, but you just told them that you would obey. They learned, in your confession, that they could manipulate you if they gave you the illusion of preference.”
“The illusion of preference” is such a great distinction because it's not actually choice or consent, just being mislead into thinking that. Just because you were given only two options doesn't mean there weren't others that were taken away, so did you really get to choose?
Arc review copy and i was not disappointed! This was such an emotional book that i had to wait until i really thought of my review before typying. Diesel being one of the oldest titans seemingly has a long history, but what is included in his many years of termoil and what he remembers compared to his brothers is heart renching. So much anguish and pain and guilt! Then Rhee is introduced. Her story explains why she loaths titans and why she wants revenge. But between new information, confessions, war and love they manage to find the common ground to grasp their happily ever after ( hopefully) This book is definitely more emotionally descriptive than the previous books and perhaps a warning for those in an emotionally fragile state to make note of. That being said i think this is the best story so far in the series and cant wait until i get to get further life stories of the brothers and their mates.
I love Cyborg romances! This book is about letting go of a painful past and embracing the here and now. Diesel was the last remaining cyborg from his batch. He has been reformed into what he is today but his humanity has always remained. Rhee is a survivor, caught in the echoes of her traumatic past, full of rage and a deep desire to avenge the murder of her family. When these two meet there is nothing but fireworks and distain on Rhee’s part and shame on Diesel’s. Overcoming their shared past helps them both grow and embrace the here and now. I really enjoyed it.
Deisel is the oldest, most damaged, most self-sacrificing of all the Titans. He alone remembers his human life, that death, his reawakening as a Titan, and the many agonizing re-boots since... Too damaged to fight, he serves by helping to power up his brother titans, rebooting them, saving them... But a rescued human tries to help, and he loses it. Humans are the ones who caused all his misery! Then he crashes, badly, and she is the one to teach him one more human thing he had forgotten - love.
An alien woman has been kept as a slave on an alien spaceship. She was made to work in the engine room while being tortured, fed very little and living in dirty chambers with other women. A male cyborg has been working to find human woman who have escaped from an alien spaceship. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens to everyone. Happy reading!
Oh. My. God. What an incredible story! The storyline was totally kick ass; the characters were so real; the plot moved along nicely; and the HEA was absolutely amazing! I laughed and cried and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This one is well worth your time, so grab a copy today! ❤️
A new world to me. A wonderful meeting of hearts in need, in sadness, looking. Cyborgs still fighting to be free. Humans just trying to stay alive, along with other aliens, even droids. A great detailed story. I will be returning to the first and reading them all in this series. Good stuff! 🥵🥰😍
I love this cyborg series. Diesel finally gets his story. Two broken beings finding each other to heal together and help win the war. I can't wait for the next book in the series. A real page turner. Great world building. Wonderful characters. I highly recommend you check this book and the whole series out.
Diesel is a pretty amazing character. Rhee is a pretty talented woman as well. Together they make a great team. It took a while to figure out Rhee's background, but once you knew what she was, it helped to clarify just why she felt the way she did about the Titans. Very fast paced story and I love all the women and Titans coming together. Great book!
Diesel and Rhee are unlikely mates. He's a tough, hulking Titan and she's a Kilthrium mechanic rescued from a Solcrue vessel. Their bond is often tested. Living in tunnels and salvaging food and parts during raids is survival under dire circumstances. High drama, action and inventive survival skills. Enjoy!
I would actually rate it 4.5 stars. The plot line is easy to follow and the characters are well thought out. A very intense read that moves at a fast pace.
This book was amazing. A quick read, full of healing and action. I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was when they went to rescue the humans and Titans on the ship... I can't wait to see which Titan next finds his one.
This cute and heartfelt bit of action was exactly what I needed. A very easy read with all the feels that you expect in a cyborg action book like this. Loved it.
Diesel is book 4 in the Hunted Relics series. You should read this series in order; start with Amp and move on from there. There is an overall series plot and you do not want to miss a thing.
Diesel continues the adventure of the CyberTitan’s and Human’s quest for freedom. This is a creative and well written series and the characters have me completely captivated. I am looking forward to the next book in the series to see how this saga continues!
