A quick read - I liked it, although maybe not as much as I liked "The Four Agreements".

Some quotes from the book that struck me....

"As soon as I tell you what to do, that means I do not respect you. Feeling sorry for someone shows a lack of respect...If I feel sorry for you, it means that I think you are not strong enough or intelligent enough to make it...Having compassion is seeing that someone has fallen, helping that person stand up, and then saying 'yes' he or she can do it."

and

"We do not need to take responsibility for another's mistakes. We can help and give love, but we do not need to take responsibility for others because that encourages their illusion of avoiding responsibility. This applies even to our children, spouses, parents, or friends. If we take on their responsibilities, they become weak."

Everytime I read this book, I validate ideas learned and learn more. Easy to read, very short, probabl 60 pages of text with another 20 with blurbs and other graphics. Definetly recommend this book to someone who wants to know how they fit into the universe.

trigger warning: mental health, r*pe

Overall, I thought this book was okay. I liked the approach that Don Miguel Ruiz uses in storytelling and using Greek, Christian, Toltec and other spiritual beliefs and comparisons to intermix with this.

I bought this book as I had a bad breakup and am really wanting to do some self reflection on self love (which there is room for improvement for sure) and also what a reciprocal loving relationship looks like. This book came up when I was searching for books about self love and I was familiar with The Four Agreements so I decided to give it a try.

For my own purposes of reflecting on self love, relationships, and ultimately human nature, I really appreciated what this book had to offer. There are lots of great one liners and paragraphs to save and reflect on.

I would say that this book isn’t for anyone who wants to look at this from more of an objective lens or be extremely stoic about it all. I like to think of it as a book that is posing ideas in a way that is simple yet relatable.

There were a few things I did not like about it. The author describes mental illness as a choice to escape from reality and I strongly disagree with that. They used situations when women would see men and they would describe her as “getting up in her hormones” which i thought was weird and sexist. and lastly they used a triggering example of r*pe and truly made it sound like survivors should just be able to choose to not be affected by their trauma someday.

All in all, this book did its job. I liked its overall messages. I didn’t love some of the premises it put on or the word choices at times.

There are some interesting insights here, and doctrine about how each person is like a cell of a much larger body in its place in the hierarchy of the universe. Interesting to think that each person's actions have a more tangible influence on the whole of the earth, and it's unusual to see prophecies of great improvement and happiness nowadays.

A SUMMARY OF OTHER BOOKS OF THE TOLTECS

By the title of this book I truly believe to find additional information for our current times
Unfortunately , I've learned that is a simple summary of other books.
Truly does not have any prophetic context.

Leitura rápida com alguns bons ensinamentos, ser correto com sua palavra, não levar nada para o lado pessoal, não tirar conclusões e fazer sempre o melhor possível.

Good writing, just not my cup of tea. I prefer the five love languages, as that author really has me grasping what has been said.

I first read this when I bought it last October [2003]. This man and the insight he brought to me has changed the entire course of my life.

Finally, I picked this book up again and finished it. What a beautiful book. Not just the words, but the pages are alive with color and truth! --From A Reader's Journal, by d r melbie.
