Looks at the main events of the Second World War, from the invasion of Poland through the Blitz, D-Day, and the end of the war, and offers inside views of a U-boat, an American bomber, a German King Tiger tank, and other equipment.
Rob Lloyd Jones was born in San Francisco but grew up in London. He studied Egyptology at University where he learnt hieroglyphics, and often goes on digs with the Egypt Exploration Society. He is a senior editor at Usborne, for whom he has written over thirty books – mostly historical non-fiction, but also adaptations of classics such as JEKYLL AND HYDE and THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. Rob is also a volunteer reading helper at a primary school in Clerkenwell and wrote episodes of the children’s TV show ‘Bernard’s Watch’ for Carlton Kids. He lives in south London with his wife Sally, and 14-month-old son Otis.
A fun book for kids where I really enjoyed how the board can move the narrative. However, at least in the Czech version, it contains some mistakes (Hummel as a tank hunter) and some weird or in my view problematic sentences (describe nuclear bombing as "cruel but effective", really?).
Přišlo mi to trochu nedůstojné k té situaci.
Was a really fun book for me to read because I never really read anything like it growing up. Reading it now I know it would have been a book that I would have been very interested in learning these kinds of things about the war especially it was such. huge event in our history I would've loved to have had more knowledge which is another reason why I think its such a valuable book.
I really liked the fact that it was focused on the different means of transportation used during the war. Thanks to the flaps, the reader can look inside a submarine, a B-29 and a carrier.
Brilliant at illustrating key events from the second word war, flap book and very interactive, really brings everything to life. Really helped when teaching EAL children.
