"How does wisdom view success? Success is finding what you were created to do and working at it to your maximum potential. Notice I said working at it to your maximum potential, not totally reaching it. It is important that we conceptualize success as an expedition, not a destination. Wisdom knows working toward success is a journey. Our concept of success is linear in nature, but wisdom sees success in three dimensions that have to do with our purpose, our best and our character." (Kyle Searcy, The Secrets to Biblical Wisdom)
I have been praying for wisdom for a while now, so my internal GPS is always on the look out for books, audio programs or materials that would help me tap into more wisdom. Not wisdom as the world defines it, but wisdom the way the Bible describes it. In the current world's wisdom they have rejected God, but true wisdom embraces God. God is All-Wise and All-Knowing. He knows the end from the beginning. He has a purpose, plan and calling on your life and His wisdom will help you step into what you have been called to do. The author says, "God has a purpose for you, a path for you alone to walk on this planet. You must make many determinations along the way, and some of those will either further or hinder God's purpose for you. His wisdom can keep you on track."
One of my favourite chapters in this book was entitled: Wisdom's Journey of Success. In this chapter he shares research he has done while interviewing others about what they think success is. Some of the answers to this question What is Success? were:
- Success is being able to have the material things I desire - Success is accumulating great wealth. - Success is when you possess sincere happiness - Success is a sense of pride in the difference you make. - Success is achieving my goals
He says that these answers may include elements of success, but these answers don't totally define success. He says, "Success is finding what you were created to do and working at it to your maximum potential".
At the end of each chapter there are prayers, decrees and questions for reflection. I thoroughly enjoyed these prayers; one of which I have excerpted here and will leave you with that you can declare if you are searching to be transformed by wisdom:
I decree that I will strongly pursue wisdom all my days. I decree that wisdom has the power to transform me. I will let wisdom transfigure my life so that my spirit shines like the sun and becomes white as light. I decree that wisdom will consume me like fire to burn out the dross that keeps me leaning on my own understanding. May my steps be ordered so that I make divine connections and change the world through the knowledge of God. Let it be, Father. As I have decreed. I believe You will perform these things according to Your Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.
I love religious books though I often struggle to read them quickly because I want to absorb every word. This was the case with this book, I absolutely love this book and I recommend it to everyone. It gives you a working knowledge of the wisdom found within the Bible that can and should be used in daily life. Reading this book doesn’t make you feel pressured to believe in one faith over another it is a testimony of the author’s own experience and that just happens to relate to a good 90 plus percent of us. One of my favorite parts of this book is that it has reflection questions as well as prayers. The reflection questions can be done alone as a personal Bible study or in a group, male or female. They do not make you feel judged in any manner yet they really do a wonderful job of forcing you to look inside of yourself and be honest with who you really are. I can’t wait to read this book again and redo the questions and prayers as I know that as my relationship with got evolves my answers to these questions will change as well. If you have a spiritual friend this book would make an excellent gift for a birthday or Christmas. Just remember that “pushing” your faith on someone can really be offensive and not well received.
This book was great at explaining how to seek wisdom and how to understand it. The quality of our life in Christ is a factor we must possess in order to grow in faith and gain wisdom in the process. The author teaches by illustration, scripture, and by offering suggestions on how to obtain wisdom and live a lifestyle based on it. He shares illustrations and uses scripture to show that God wants to seek wisdom in order to live productively in order that we can glorify Him in all that we do.
I read the Secrets of biblical wisdom by Kyle Searcy, in exchange for review from Bethany House.
Funny story:
The other week, I was reviewing some emails and noticed one from Bethany House. It was the confirmation to send me this book. I normally keep my confirmations in the book review folder, but for some reason this book was in the business or event folder. I was not sure,if I received the book yet. I checked my e-readers (kindle for pc, kindle cloud, reader for pc, and adobe digital editions)but could not find the book. So I thought ok, Maybe Bethany has not sent the book in the mail yet. Cool, no Problem. I have two other books (paperback) to read for review. This morning, as I was preparing for church, I needed to find the boy's tooth brush. In my bag, with homework and other things needed to work, I noticed this book. I been reading it since I got home from church. The book was just what I needed at this moment. The book is what I needed right now.
I am loving this book. I enjoyed the forward and prologue, especially the dorm dream. I also enjoyed the story about how Kyle met his wife. The story was highly inspirational. Kyle let God guide him in finding the right woman for him--not just as a wife, but as a pastor's wife. Not everyone can handle this role. The book also talked about how we--as a people--need to allow Godly wisdom to guide our decisions. We do not need to rush into decisions because we will make mistakes-the wrong mistake. I also love the questions for thought at the end of each chapter. Searcy also teaches about the difference between Godly Wisdom and Demonic (false wisdom). I highly recommend this book. Like I said, I started about an hour ago and now on page 41 out of 188. This is an excellent book.

Of course, it is all about wisdom—why you would want it, examples of it and how to obtain it. If you have a desire for more wisdom or if you are in need of a desire for wisdom this book is for you.

I truly found inspiration and moved toward my Christian journey more so after reading and during reading this book. I had gotten to a place of spiritual stagnation and diverted into some snares and traps of the enemy. However, I've asked for and believe God for a resistance to those things. I have to acknowledge this book for its role in that process.
Biblical principles and instructions in obtaining the wisdom of God in Christ. This subject would be primarily interesting to devout Christians seeking a deeper understanding of godly wisdom.
