Have you ever received the wrong text from the right person?
One thing about me? I don’t play games. Another thing about me? I don’t waste time.
I’ve built my reputation by treating my patients, my students, and my colleagues with respect.
In my role as Mr. Black Detroit, my focus is supporting my community and planning the city’s annual Juneteenth celebration.
Again, my time is valuable. I should’ve ignored the text. But… There’s something about Daphne that makes me want to engage. Maybe it’s the way she commands a room and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. Or maybe it’s the glimpse of vulnerability in her eyes. It’s probably just her. Whatever it is in the beginning quickly morphs into something else entirely, though.
Soon, I can’t get enough of her. But can I convince her to take a chance on me?
In the Baes of Juneteenth multi-author series, we invite you to journey to different cities to celebrate Juneteenth with the men of Mr. Black, an organization honoring Black love, Black culture, and Black history.
Born and raised in Southeast Michigan near Ann Arbor, Elle learned the importance of reading from her mother. It was also her mother who, later on in her life, gave Elle her first romance novel: Indigo by Beverly Jenkins. From that moment on, Elle became a fan of Ms. Jenkins for life and a lover of all things romance. An old journal she wrote back in college became her first book (which she still wants to publish one day).
I bet Daphne wished Apple had the unsend text feature when she lashed out and sent Nero text messages that were meant for her thieving 🍑 cousin Neo. Daphne went in on him calling him everything but a child of God only to end up embarrassing herself real bad!
Thankfully Nero was understanding once he got the full story and not only empathized with Daphne but also became infatuated with her. We love a grown and sexy story where zero games are played and Elle did a really good job delivering us the perfect mature bae. The story was face pasted but felt natural and well developed. I’ve really been enjoying Elle’s catalog and can’t wait to get my hands on more from her.
I don't blame Daphne one bit for claiming Nero. In fact, I needed Nero near me so that I could absorb his delectablness. The Juneteenth references pull the stories together along with the history behind each cities celebration. I enjoyed each story, but as I finished this one, Nero and Daphne's version is solidly in the lead. I loved them, Ace, especially and the OGs cracked me up. Thank you for taking us on these beautiful journeys.
Listened to the book via hoopla. The writing in this was good and funny.
I love what this series stands for. Black love, history, and culture centered around Juneteenth.
Baby Daphne sending that wrong text was probably one of the best things she’s ever done 😂. It just activated the feelings both her and Nero have for each other. I’m glad it was a straightforward romance of two adults liking each other with a little push back but eventually getting right to it. Their spice was hot baby.
Besides the romance it was good to see the organization of men come together for something great. Learning how things work and the history on how things got started. As well as what they plan to do to make their black communities better.
Can’t wait to listen to the other books in the series. Hope they’re just as good.
The fact a cousin wipes your home including your cat could be a death warrant for the person. You are angry enough to take all matters into your hands. In anger you pop off a couple of texts..then find out you actually sent to a sexy Dr coworker. You want the floor to open up but instead he asks you out for dinner. Read this hott book to see what happens. I loved it..
I loved this book and I rarely start a book review just putting it out there like this but I really did! I loved that they were grown 40+! Thank you Elle for writing a book for grown folks! At this big old age life, lifestyle and relationships reaches a whole new stage and our needs and wants change. Dating, hell making the decision to date and put out the effort to do so after living a whole life is not easy so I appreciate when I read books that just get it.
Dr Bond was a man who played no games and came to a point in his life that he wanted something with someone real that he could be happy and do life with. Not on no in his pockets and in his bed type of situation but something meaningful, genuine, and of quality. Raised his kids and ALL of the sacrifices that came with that, extremely successful and influential, plus he was a man for and about the black community. He was more than bae - ok! A definition of a real grown man. Plus he was man enough to be with a woman his own age!
Daphne was a beautiful and successful woman who everyone depended on and who sacrificed herself for her family. She rarely had something for herself that she wasn’t willing to or asked to share / especially her money (bank of the childs.) She spoke her mind, knew her mind, and had a big heart for family. Her character resonated with me because I am the same way - oldest, no kids but raising everyone else’s, the person everyone runs to to “fix it”. ““For years, I’ve watched you put everyone else first. Why don’t you try to just live your life? For you.” Felt that quote! I cackled from the first chapter and all in between and to the end! I liked how he let her set the pace but he set the tone of being down for whatever but always in the moment. Their banter was funny, easy, lite. Their chemistry was fire. No pretenses, no games, no rushing, no pressure, just what worked for them. That’s how it should be. I appreciated how he was very intentional with her which allowed her to let down her guard and be open with him.
When I read the synopsis for Mr. Down for Whatever, I was interested to find out how someone sent the “wrong” text to the “right” person. Daphne Childs is the Facilities director at a medical center and loves her job. She has a big heart and unfortunately, cant trust everyone. Daphne had every right to send angry messages. The problem is she sent them to Dr. Nero Bond. That was the worse time to get a contact confused. Dr. Nero Bond practices at Henry Ford Medical center and is the current Mr. Black Detroit. Once Nero received the messages, he couldn’t help himself and sent a playful response.
Daphne makes Nero rethink all of his rules, especially not dating someone from where he works. He asks her out before he realizes what he is doing. Daphne and Nero connected physically really fast, and once they started, they couldn’t stop. Things moved quickly but it was still organic. This sexy couple was so “in” to each other.
Nero’s grandfather was one of the founders of secret organization that became “Mr. Black” and instilled so much positivity into his life. Similar to other books in the series, Mr. Black is focused on making a positive impact on the community. It took me a few chapters to realize the chapter titles were old school songs! I enjoyed everything about Mr. Down for Whatever. See complete review at romanceincolor.com.
Grown and Sexy…Mature, Seasoned and Second Chance Romance…🔥🔥🔥
Daphne and Nero were destined for each other as far as I am concerned! Daphne, opens up the door for Mr. Down for Whatever by sending erroneous text message, unbeknownst to her, to Nero…Dr. Bond…instead of her cousin Neo!! Nero, seeing his opening, jumps right in and takes advantage of the opportunity to know Daphne more!! That is the beginning of this couple and they just grow from there!
Nero is working on his Juneteenth celebration for Detroit, sponsored through the Mr. Black organization, and incorporating a health fair for the community, as well! Everyone works and comes together to bring this to fruition!
Despite the ex’s, the naysayers and other situations, they overcome everything together, just like a mature and grown couple would do! This story told a lot in the time allotted! I’m wishing for stronger and united family relations and definitely a wedding in the near fire as they all “Live Free!” Another excellent book in this series! Highly recommended!! Kudos, Elle!! 💜
Nero and Daphne's story is a continuation of Black men dedicated to use the Juneteenth celebration to educate agitate and organize our people into better lives lived free without allowing those with no interest in us to control us! The types of activities planned by each of these Mr. Black for their respective cities brings home just how important this part of our history is. It also points out how important It is that we help each other stay safe, healthy, make healthy choices and get back to a collective mindset where we each look out one for the other! These anthologies remind me of the saying each one teach one and each one reach many!!!!! Thank you Elle Wright for furthering the education of Juneteenth and what it means to us as a people and how we can celebrate the day by committing to be better as individuals and as one people! I am so in love with these anthologies. Great job Elle, thank you again.
I am so loving this series!! In each book, while honoring the history behind the Juneteenth holiday, each Mr. Black also happens to find his forever love. Nero gets a the wrong text message from Daphne who it's mortified when she realizes her mistake. But they say God puts ppl in your path for a reason. So maybe that message wasn't necessarily a mistake. Cause when these two got together the chemistry was immeasurable. I loved the Nero was a man true to his word. And that's very sexy! And Daphne was the Ying to his Yang. The bond the developed around planning the Juneteenth celebration us just made this book all the more sweeter. And can I say I loved that these two people were in their late 40's!! Yes, love is not exclusive to people only in their 20's and 30's. This book is sooooo worth reading. You will not be disappointed.
Be careful who you send that text too. The real message of this book. An error lead to a love match. This was in the TBR pile and I wanted a quick workout read while on the treadmill. This story of mature love was a good one. Nero and Daphne did not start out as your typical woman meets man story. Her sending I am going to get you text to her cousin Neo, or so she thought, started this relationship. The character development of Mr. Black Detroit aka Nero was excellent, along with the other characters. Both had their history affect their future, but was able to put it aside. It is a story in the Baes of Juneteenth, but the focus on Juneteenth was towards the end of the book. Not sure why it was included as this series as it was more about the two main characters and Juneteenth thrown in at the end. Ms. Wright wrote an excellent short story. I am a fan of hers and might be a little biased. Nevertheless, this is a great story and I recommend it to others.
“Mr. Down for Whatever: Baes of Juneteenth” was an excellent read! …a romantic curiosity initiated by the wrong text inadvertently sent to the right person 😬🫣🫠 Awkward⁉️..I just adore Nero’s perspective & response “wear your hair out …”Oh that’s a seasoned man move‼️Defuse the situation. …straight no chaser.🤷🏾♀️👏🏾👏🏽👏🏿 Nonetheless, I appreciated Nero didn’t take immediately offense nor did Daphne retreat into obscurity over her honest mistake. ..and he managed clarity, a date & a friendly recurring benefit 😂🤣. Thereafter, as a somewhat older couple, (although forty’s is still young to me) I was a pleasant surprise by the early revelation. Hopefully, this couple will reappear with updates in the neara fra future. …”Every legacy has a story”‼️🥰
This was another good addition to the series. It solidified the fact that fate is a real thing. Because of what happened to Daphne, she and Nero were able to connect. (Tbh, I was really confused when Nero got those texts). It made me wonder if they would have made any connection outside of work events.
I also loved that this was a low angst/no angst book. I wasn't sure what would happen after Nero's phone call about the house, or Daphne's interaction with Jada. I liked the gradual way Nero and Daphne's relationship grew and developed. I also appreciated the easy going nature they had with each other.
I wouldn't mind reading a longer book about the two of them.
I loved this book and these characters. Nero and Daphne were so cute together. They clicked and made a genuine connection pretty fast but the connection felt organic and not forced. Nero was down for whatever and it seemed Daphne was too after taking time to weigh the pros and cons. This couple showed the importance of living freely and for yourself. I’m excited to see what comes next from this author.
I thoroughly enjoyed Daphne and Nero's story. It was refreshing having an older couple as the love interests. It was wonderful how Nero incorporated the importance of good health, especially knowing your numbers as part of the Juneteenth celebration.
The story also had wonderful side characters especially Ace and the other OGs. I loved how Nero and Walter's story came full circle saving each other's lives. in different ways.
I really enjoyed this story. It was super cute kept my attention from the opening line to the end. The fact that they’re a mature couple is good look too so people can see themselves in the characters. My favorite secondary characters were Ace & Britt. I also like that this story touched on awareness of Health screenings and diabetes awareness in the AA community. Job well done Elle Wright.
This story was indeed uplifting. When two people have not had the pleasure of LOVE! When they do recognize that they mean something to each other, they let go and loved each other with no pressure. The doctor had been in a love less marriage, even his daughters knew that he was unhappy. He met Daphne, and immediately he was hooked and loved her spirit and took the relationship to moving in together.
This was a love story about Daphne Child's and Nero Bond. They met because she sent him texts in error thinking it was her cousin who had stolen from her. When she realized her error he was strongly attracted to her. After several impromptu dates they became attracted to each other. Finally after several months they found their happily ever after.
A mistaken text started it all! Daphne was so upset at her thieving cousin, that she sent the text meant for him, to Nero. It’s a good thing she did, otherwise they would have never gotten together. I love that Nero and Daphne are grown and sexy! I loved everything about them. I just wish that her cousin had gotten his just dessert, for taking everything from her! Thank you Mrs. Wright for another great book! ❤️🔥
I Loved every part of this novella! Imagine you send an angry text to your cousin who just stole the furniture etc out of your house but instead that message goes to your sexy colleague who was just about to walk on the stage and give a speech?! 😩🤦🏾♀️ That part made me holler out loud! Execution was beautiful and smooth transition into their relationship. These novella’s have been fun to read in this series. Enjoy!
Dealing with pass hurts Daphne was afraid to try, Nero was just as the title stated "Down for Whatever". I appreciate the connection they both had with Walt. Ace and the OGs, had me remembering my daddy and his fraternity brothers. We all need to have a Juneteenth fair such as that in our neighborhoods.
I loved that Ms. Elle Wright used Motown song titles as her chapter headings. It was especially fitting since the story was based in Detroit, Michigan. I enjoy reading about mature couples, and this story did not disappoint. This book had me laughing at some of Daphne and Nero's antics. It also highlighted a few serious health issues facing the black community.
I enjoyed reading Nero and Daphne. The story line was good. I prefer reading with little or no cursing. They did a good history with Juneteenth. The sex scene was kinda graphic. They were an older couple so that was fun to read. The characters were serious with a lot of faults. Some of them were unclear. All in all a good read.
I’m trying more authors who will be in Milwaukee in September, and I enjoyed this! Like with almost all novellas I read, I wish it was longer, but this was the only book by this author my library had, and I did really enjoy it! Wright developed these characters well in a short amount of time, and I would read more from her!
I'm really enjoying the series. Nero and Daphne coming together through the texting made for a good beginning. Loved Ace and the barber shop crowd. Also Nero's daughters.
Grown and sexy love is the best. Nero and Daphne fit the bill perfectly. They had bad relationships and even though they were gun shy they couldn't resist each other. I recommend this book to everyone who is looking for that grown and sexy kind of love.
I am a Big Elle Wright fan and this was cute cute cute warm funny. Understanding but they decide to take a chance on each other. Love to finally took over also together ship had strength.
I loved this story! How a simple mistake can turn into something beautiful! I don’t want to spoil the book but I definitely want more to this story! I highly recommend! Story kept me wanting more. Hats off to Elle Wright! You never disappoint!
A short and sweet love story. Daphne and Nero relationships issues but were able to rise above the circumstances live a good life and now they have each other. My favorite was grandpa Ace.
