Born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Margaret Dickinson moved to the coast at the age of seven and so began her love for the sea and the Lincolnshire landscape. Her ambition to be a writer began early and she had her first novel published at the age of twenty-five. This was followed by many further titles including Plough the Furrow, Sow the Seed and Reap the Harvest, which make up her Lincolnshire Fleethaven Trilogy. She is also the author of Fairfield Hall, Jenny's War and The Clippie Girls. Margaret is a Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller.
The third in the Fleethaven Point series, which started off with the story of Esther, then moved on to her daughter Kate, and now finishes with grand-daughter Ella. Following the 1953 East Coast floods, orphaned Ella is forced to live with her grandmother, Esther, on Brumby’s Farm. There is a mutual feeling of antagonism between the two, mainly because they are so alike in their stubbornness and determination. Apart from her beloved grandfather and young Rob on nearby Rookery Farm, Ella feels unloved and eventually heads back to Lincoln. The main theme of this novel is the gradual uncovering of the secrets that had held the family in thrall through three generations. When Ella discovers that her grandparents are both ill and that the farm is neglected, she is the one who takes over and in doing so, discovers where her heart is truly at home.
I loved this series. The wait for this one and "Sow The Seed" was totally worth the wait. I really enjoyed the last book and the second and the first to,all of them. There wasn't anything I didn't like. I cryed when Kate died in this book, that was really sad and especially how she died to. :( I really liked Ella, and I enjoyed reading she got to met her dad and I loved her other grandmother came round and loved her after the shock of finding out about her . There is so much I loved in this book, I love everything. Pretty much near the end of the book when Esther refused anyone to help Johnathan get better, or help her in anyway totally reminded me of Sam in the first book. But I so loved Ether finally said she loved Ella! :D I knew she did but it was nice for her to finally say it.

Having read the previous two books in short succession I had a fair idea where this one was going, but was anxious to find out exactly what happened along the way; events were largely inevitable, but I still wish they could have been otherwise .... Although each would work as a stand-alone book, the three books in the series certainly merit reading together (or relatively close together)
Read in less than half a day, needless to say, I loved it. This is the third and final book of the Fleethaven Point series (I read the second, Sow the Seed, last year, but still haven’t read the first. They can be read as standalones).
In 1953, Ella travels to her grandparents’ farm for her great-grandfather’s funeral, a place she’s never been with people she’s hardly met. Then the east coast floods and she’s forced to move from her familiar life in Lincoln to the farm. As she grows, Ella becomes more aware of the secrets her mother and grandmother had been carrying for years.
This was such a good read! It was lovely seeing familiar characters and meet some new ones. It’s been a while since I read the previous book so it was a refresher as Ella found out the family history. I just wish there was a bit more to the epilogue.
Well I’ve read the complete trilogy altogether and it’s been a very emotional journey for me throughout- I’ve never cried so much when reading books - OMG ! but tears apart- I don’t know about 5 stars ⭐️ I’d give each book in this trilogy series a100plus -⭐️‘s - covering two world wars but I don’t want to do a story spoiler - I just want to say whoever reads these books won’t be disappointed and I would like to add my congratulations to this author Margaret Dickinson “You truly are one incredible author”- This trilogy will forever live within my heart it touched my every nerve. Those black family secrets - the twists - the heartache of love - the heartache of loss - the struggles and pain- the devotions - the sadness - and the “If only” I found myself transported back in time and just could not leave go -

I loved this final part of the Fleethaven trilogy. Such a wonderful telling of past family tragedy that had affected the next generations just because they 'didnt want to talk about it'. I never quite got to like Esther....she was a hard character, and although held many of her own hurts, she just needed to give herself a talking to....she wasn't as kind as she could have been. But I felt compelled to keep turning the pages to see how the story would pan out. Really enjoyed it 😊

A very good story line with twists and turns love heartache and losses. I found it hard to put this book down and get on with my jobs in the house.spread over a number of years through war and the after effects and three generations of family life . Loved it look forward to reading more from Margaret Dickinson.
The 3rd and final book in this saga. The shame of a child born out of wedlock mars the lives of a lot of people. The stigma kept secret and spoiling the dreams of 2 young people comes around again for another generation. When the secrets are aired the young Ella vows to find her father and change her life
Every Margaret Dickinson book I read I wonder how the next book can be better or different but they always are. How does she write such wonderful stories. Where does she find such enthralling storylines?.
An enjoyable book. I loved the feisty grannie Esther and her delightful husband Jonathan. This book had sad moments and when my two favourite characters passed away at the end I actually cried. I always know its a good book when it actually makes me cry at a characters expense, as the author has touched me in such an emotional way and has done it so that the book's plot has crept up on me.
finally got round to reading this last book in the trilogy and I'm glad I did. I have to admit that I cried when Kate died! all 3 books are worth a try as such a brilliant story!
